This game was an evening after the season had already started if memory serves. Partial reparation for Brian Deane.

Also seem to remember a game against Everton as part of the compo package for Mitch Ward and Carl Tiler? We were also offered a friendly with Leeds in exchange for Kevin Blackwell which the club eventually didn't bother with given the anger amongst fans over the deal.

Strangest one I can remember was a friendly in late January 2000 against Latvia with Marian Pahars up top for them.

Athletico? Belenenses is the other team in Lisbon in their top league and they finished bottom so relegated. That's more like the friendly we'd get.....

This thread just prompted a flashback. I went to Aylesbury v Blades XI friendly many years ago as a kid.

Turned out one of the Aylesbury players was a guy doing some (brief) coaching at my football team. So chatted with him for a few minutes from the away stand.

That's the whole story... I didn't say it was a good one.
