When Beattie left sharp played against Hull at Hull in the cup. He was awesome, played very well, scored and should've had a penalty! It was like a weight off his shoulders that he could play as the main striker and he was loving it. Then he got injured and we've not seen of him since!

I can't accept this I'm afraid.

He played well in the 2nd game against Hull granted, but it's few and far between for decent performances from Sharp.

The last time he played with Beattie was actually 28/12/2008, the game you refer to was 26/02/2009 - almost 2 months between them.

So did Sharp step up to the mark in the 6 games after he last played with Beattie? Well, he got a goal against Leyton Orient (Billys level) he also er.... na - no he didn't.

Dino Zoff won the UEFA cup as a manager with Juve and then Euro runners-up with Italy in 2000 (should've beat the very lucky French, I remember!). That might qualify as a not bad manager who was a goalie!

I knew someone would mention Zoff - that's why I want two :)

Italy are reknown for defensiveness though, so they probably didn't notice any difference when he took over, ha

Raymond Goethals. 1993 European Cup winning manager with Marseille (beat Milan with Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard, Maldini, Baresi etc).

3rd place in Euros with Belgium, Cup Winners Cup triumph with Anderlecht. Belgian league title with Anderlecht and then 3 successive French league titles with Marseilles.

Not bad for a keeper, and reputedly a crap keeper at that! :D

Google is your friend hey?

Keep em coming though boys

I'd have thought a tactical mastermind like yourself would have known of "Raymond the science"?

If not for his reputation, but the fact he was never without a fag in his mouth :)

Bruce Arena hasn't done too badly and has a quality name :)

Only ever heard of him, never known he was a goalkeeper. Either way, he is no match for Blackie is he?

Scraping barrel a bit aren't we?

Charlton - On as a late sub. Can't really get into games as sub.

Norwich - Played as a winger with Hendo up front. Sharp and Webber were wingers, as i said he's not that type of player.

Charlton - same as Norwich

Doncaster - Nobody turned up.

Wednesday - Nobody turned up - Sharp on as late sub.

Hull - 4-4-2 with Halford. Played very well, was unlucky not to score.

Play him in a 442 formation and give him a run in the team. Everybody seems to get on Billy Sharps back all too easy

I think it is totally the opposite.

If he hadn't been 'Billy Sharp' then a lot of the crowd would have got on his back a long time ago.

The reason he is now receiving critiscm is because he hasn't been able to produce a consitent run of good form in the 2 years he has been here.

I believe he has a lot to offer a league one team who are prepared to play football - but I just don't see him cutting it for anyone at this level, and certainly not a long ball team like us.

I agree, a large percentange of Billy's tally came from a goal mouth scramble, Scunny's main aim was to just get it into the box.

The thing with us is that we dont put it int the right places, for Billy, often enough.

Decent player, just doesn't suit our style of fottball (thats if you can call it that).

No player can score over 50 goals in two seasons at league 1 to then suddenly lose form just by stepping up one level you'd expect 15 a season easy.

But any manager can ruin a player by playing him in the wrong position or role or threw a clash of personalities but a players ability doesn’t just disappear.

top and bottom he cant play shit long ball

I would very much disagree.

Just of the top of my head - Matty Fryatt. Ricky Lambert (Although he's never been given the chance, he wouldn't do it). Andy Keogh. Freddy Eastwood.

It's a bigger step up than you think.

yer its a step up but for a goal poacher ?
as i said id expect his tally to fall to half.
dose it really get that much harder to steer the ball into the net.

would gary liniker have been any better under the same conditions playing deep or as a winger with such a lack of service that you have to go looking for it doubt it.
goal poachers belong in the box its that easy.

wingers + poachers = goals
playing 3 cms and a rb in mid dosent help the attack
and blasting the ball in to orbit to a 5'10 striker is just stupid

Fryatt and Eastwood are supposedly goal poachers, but that's a different argument.

Whether you need the ball in the box or not, you should be able to do something with it. The main problems for me with Sharp are a) he has no pace, therefore can't get in behind the defence, b) his technical ability is limited, and can't create chances for himself, c) he's not strong enough and gets pushed off the ball too easily and d) when he's got the chances, he very rarely takes them.

He scored in 2 league games last season, out of 17 starts, in which we got 21 points. When he's in the team we don't do well, and he contributes very little when he does play other than running around alot.

For me, it's not worth changing half the squad to suit a player that has offered as little as he has since joining the club. Get rid and try somebody new.

I think he should be loaned out to a championship team see he can get a few goals (and see if he can actually cut it in this league), then see how he gets on when he comes back.

This is gonna sound silly but I think sometimes the problem is he tries too hard

The first thing Billy ought to do tho is buy some new studs for his boots - he spends more time on his arse than he does on his feet.

yes id like to see how he would do at doncaster they get the ball in the box a lot, its not far should we want him back if he cant do it there id concede he cant do it at this level.
