Whichever idiot it is presenting FH tonight (they all sound the same to me...) stated tonight with that usual fire and brimstone tone of voice that Sheffield United fans need to wise up - after a caller suggested MA should be given a few games next season to show what he can do in L1 - that MA wont be able to do the job needed to turn things round at United "because of all the players on 2-3 year contracts, not JUST at Championship wage level but HIGHER as well...'

Who the hell is he on about seriously? Ever since we bottled it and sold Beattie, SURELY the people in charge of the finances havent sanctioned a mixture of big contracts and wages? It just does not add up. I'd say maybe Ched Evans is on a decent whack but thats because, IMHO, he was bought to set the division on fire and sell on back to a Premier League club, which clearly hasnt been the case. Other than that, I really for the life of me cannot see who we would be paying out silly money to when McCabe effectively slammed the door on that concept with the sale of Beattie.

Can anyone shed any real light on the matter?

Somebody rang Bert yesterday ( nb Bert conducted the conversation from the top of a stepladder), he had been talking to a person who knew McCabe personally and he insisted that Evans was on £27k per week and Nozzer on £20k.
Bert didn't believe a word.

Good move Bert,

You hear so many stories of shysters going round to old people's houses and telling them the roof is falling down or somesuch....no flies on you!

I'll put my mortgage on Morgan, Quinn and Monty taking £2.5M per year from the club between them.

:(

Pay em on performance ......... two bags of crisps and a bottle of dandelion and burdock wud have paid the squad for the whole of the season so far !
If we go down not one of em shud be at BDTBL next season. ! put that in yer pipe an smoke it McCabe !

I'd bet on Hendo being close to 16/17k a week. Simmo will be on a wedge plus we all know Monty, Quinn and Cressy are on excess of 10k.

Not surprising we're in the brown stuff.

Don't talk daft. How on earth could you justify the Dandelion and Burdock?

You know the sad thing is, I'd play my fucking heart out every week for two bag of crisp and a bottle of pop.

*sigh*

so what happened to tightening our belts after selling beattie? just doesnt add up to me

It was Seth, if that's what you mean by shedding light ;-) His trademark is not being able to talk about a club, or a match without referring to it as a "football club" or a "football match" as if the listener might get confused about the sport in question and I find it really irritating.

I heard tonight's FH and what struck me about his declaration that we were still paying (football) players Premiership wages was that in itself that would be a terrible thing, which it isn't. The terrible thing is that for that money, we ought to be getting Premiership performances from those players and we aren't.

It's the worst of all possible worlds, heamorraghing money, for no return.

Don't tell len I posted that.

£15,000 a week sounds very cheap when you've been paying £40,000.

The wage-bill is accounted for. It was well above £10M for a long time after Beattie left. That leaves room for some pretty horrendous contracts.

There was mataphorical single malt all over the screen when I read that. Personally, I'm more wary of double glazing salesmen.

Bert once read an interview with Sir Ken Morrison in The Telegraph, Bert was most impressed that Sir Ken's head office was very basic, nothing flash and that he had a habit of visiting his stores and checking out was was in their rubbish bins to see what they were wasting. A few days later Bert drove past the Grimsby brach of Morrisons on a Sunday and noted that the car park was jammed full and it was the same at the Lincoln store.

Consequently Bert some some in Morrisons and sold them two years later at a £10k profit.

Its the same with Brian Soutar, owner of Stagecoach. Stagecoach headquarters consist of two terraced houses in Perth knocked together, and that is his headquarters

This smacks to me of the club using the media to prepare us for another summer of failing to spend in the transfer market and reliance again loans for next season.

Quite honestly, given the way the squad's performed this season I'd grant anybody earning more than £10k a week a free transfer and hope they find a new club sharpish. Then I'd follow Ollie's recommended policy of signing promising younhg players on wages no more than £7k a week. The money we could save on the wage bill could then be used towards funding the transfer fees to get the talent we need into the club. If 3 players on £15k disappear that would give us £1.2million to spend on incoming players. If Ched is really on the wages claimed he could virtually fund half a team himself.

Of course, this also depends on Micky recognizing that players like Collins and Doyle are awful signings and McCabe not just deciding to pocket all the savings made.

No chance of that until after the cut off date for season tickets at reduced rates. Upto that point we'll be linked with loads of players and the club will re-iterate that we'll be keeping all the star players (sic).

I always imagined Morgs, Nos, Monty, Cresswell, Hendo and Ched are all on five figure salaries. From what I've heard that assumption isnt too wide of the mark. It would make sense as they've all come down from the PL where wages get inflated upon promotion etc.

I think we should acitvely try to sell any player on above 5-6k to give us a good chance of building a fresh new squad in the summer. Players on more than that will continue to hold us back.

And would the side be necessarily worse without Cresswell, Nosworthy and Henderson, assuming they were replaced within a stricter wage structure?

It doesn't matter what the wage limit is, our problem has been that we pay too much to players with little or no resale value. Collins might be earning £5,000 per week (I've no idea, that's a complete guess) but surely there was a far better option out there for that money?

Have you seen McCabe's HQ in Scarborough? One of those terraced seafront houses on the South Bay next to the B&Bs. Only clue is a couple of subtle brass plaques by the front door.

Which 'Star' players are these then!
We haven't got any 'Star' players
We have a team of has beens, never has beens, booters, cloggers totally devoid of any talent - the majority of the players cannot string two passes together
We have scored less goals than anyone in the division and conceded more than most!
Our team (squad) is next door to useless, with no heart, passion, belief and most of all skill
They are a shower of sh!te who think that making condescending noises to the media that resolves all the problems
Simonson was given a free transfer because he is not good enough
Nosworthy has been put out on loan because he is not good enough
I could go onand on but I won't - but don't insult me and others by talking about 'Star'players We ain't got any!!!

Most definately, sadly it will take time given the outrageous contracts dished out to the overpaid garbage we presently employ.

Do Mozza's do a decent Chateauneuf Du Pape?

They certainly do, a most invigorating slurp!

I am in agreement with Wendy fans at work that both Sheffield clubs should stop signing too many Premiership players on high wages and sign more "up and coming players". A Wendy fan said Clinton Morrison keeps throwing his arms up when things go wrong and he doesnt have the "hunger" anymore. Both clubs have to realise that we dont need players with that kind of attitude. Peterborough strikers are from the non league and have the "better attitude" than Wendy players

Agents are taking advantage of the fact that both Sheffield clubs pay high wages. This has got to stop
