I also remember the first match well. I was at the wedding reception at the Maynard Arms, Grindleford, for a colleague on the Star (quickly puts tin hat on...) which was a good paper in those days. Also there was another colleague, Keith Strong - the Star's fine entertainments writer - who was from Coventry and supported them.We were winning 2-0 at Coventry in March 1972 and it was abandoned with 30 minutes left after a heavy snowstorm. I was at Wembley that day watching the Stoke v Chelsea League Cup final. No snow at all!
I wernt to the re-arranged match at Highfield Road in the next month and we lost 3-2 (TC had a good goal disallowed near the end which would have clinched him a hat trick)
I'm at Derby Station right now and sun is shining beautiful day. Forecasters don't know what they're on about.Told ya![]()

Woodhead was fine an hour ago. Stocksbridge was worse area.Snake closed, Woodhead only passable with care, snow settling in Trafford which is unheard of. The Pennines have been the bane of my life since emigrating 25 years ago, might be watching the game on iPlayer at this rate

better to go through Bradwell not Castleton in this weatherCame that way and down Winnats - like sledging in a car!
Agreed. Didn’t think it would be that bad though - it was just the top section, which is unfortunately the steepest!better to go through Bradwell not Castleton in this weather![]()
Wish it had been now...
Very strange to watch the feed and one end of the pitch look like the Arctic and the other look like the Maldives (there may be a bit of exaggeration here)
We could only afford to turn the heating on at one end of the ground..... I suspect it was down to the sun - the snow settled in the shade of the BL end but melted in the sun bathing the Kop.Am i being a bit thick but during the game. I couldnt figure out why 1 half was full of snow & 1 half completely empty
