Snowed off?

We were winning 2-0 at Coventry in March 1972 and it was abandoned with 30 minutes left after a heavy snowstorm. I was at Wembley that day watching the Stoke v Chelsea League Cup final. No snow at all!

I wernt to the re-arranged match at Highfield Road in the next month and we lost 3-2 (TC had a good goal disallowed near the end which would have clinched him a hat trick)
I also remember the first match well. I was at the wedding reception at the Maynard Arms, Grindleford, for a colleague on the Star (quickly puts tin hat on...) which was a good paper in those days. Also there was another colleague, Keith Strong - the Star's fine entertainments writer - who was from Coventry and supported them.

Somebody had a radio, and as the Blades went ahead and then further ahead, there was a good deal of banter with Bong, as we called Keith. Imagine, then, how pissed off I - and a few other Blades at the do - were when the match was abandoned.

And there was only keg beer on offer...

Snowing now at Darley Dale and I'm about to set off. Just Owler Bar to worry about (and the Blades, of course).

Snake closed, Woodhead only passable with care, snow settling in Trafford which is unheard of. The Pennines have been the bane of my life since emigrating 25 years ago, might be watching the game on iPlayer at this rate
Woodhead was fine an hour ago. Stocksbridge was worse area.

Hmm, white over and coming down fast at Woodhouse. Any news anyone? Assume match will still be going ahead at this point.

Weather update from S24SU towers... Just walked to the local shop for some milk (needed, not panic buying).

On the way there, Arctic tundra, belting it down with horizontal snow, everything settling and looking like setting in for the foreseeable. On way back, glorious sunshine melting it all away.

Keeps switching between the two, bring your shades and your scarf.

I’m on the train from Manchester - snow on the ground but blue skies. Think we’ll be fine to get home

A6 mate ;)

Currently blizzard conditions.
Match will probably go ahead but could be a bit of a lottery.

On train over from Stockport, seems about one third each of glorious sunshine, blizzard and can't tell as in tunnel

Just seen a dog turned away. I ask you, in this weather?

It was German Sheperd though, had it been an English bulldog or Irish setter, it could have been different.

The good news is it ate that cat that hangs around trying to get in.

Just arrived, never seen snow on our Desso pitch before!

Wish it had been now...

Very strange to watch the feed and one end of the pitch look like the Arctic and the other look like the Maldives (there may be a bit of exaggeration here)

I don't know, 'very strange' doesn't seem particularly over the top to me

Am i being a bit thick but during the game. I couldnt figure out why 1 half was full of snow & 1 half completely empty

We could only afford to turn the heating on at one end of the ground..... I suspect it was down to the sun - the snow settled in the shade of the BL end but melted in the sun bathing the Kop.

My auntie take a good picture that summed game to a tee. It Looks like comparison between august & january. Not 10 mins apart. Reminded me of Bristol city game in relegation season which i remember as 4 seasons in 1 match
