Six of United's scholars have penned their first professional contracts with the club, deals which come into effective at the end of their scholarships.

Marcus Dewhurst, along with George Cantrill, Keenan Ferguson, Jordan Doherty, Oliver Greaves and French striker Simeon Oure have all recently put pen-to-paper on pro terms with United.

Goalkeeper Dewhurst has recently earnt international recognition with England's U17s, whilst Doherty and Greaves have impressed in United's development squad this term.

Ferguson and Cantrill are both young and versatile defenders, who continue to develop with experience at U23 level, whilst attacking midfielder Oure has settled in extremely well since joining the Blades earlier this season, following spells with USMF Gagne and Nimes Olympique in his native France.

Meanwhile, three first-year professionals, in addition to Regan Slater and Sam Graham, have signed new deals.

Jordan Hallam, Harvey Gilmour, both of whom have been regulars for the U23s this season, have committed their future to the club, along with Callum Semple who has recently returned to competitive action having picked up a serious knee injury last season.

Academy Manager Travis Binnion remarked: "These players have been given new deals as we feel they have the potential to progress.

"It is now up to them to continue to work hard and develop as quickly as they can to take the next step in their careers."

My limited knowledge is: Dewhurst is a goalkeeper (as it says in the OS article!), Ferguson is a centre half, Cantrill is a left sided defender, Doherty is a box to box midfielder and Greaves is an attacking midfielder. Greaves' name hasn't been mentioned in match reports for a while - has he been injured?

Let hope they make it as footballers, they'd struggle as a boyband

Greaves was scoring plenty of goals but then I believe had a knee injury. Pleased he has been given a contract and also for Callum Semple who has just recovered from a bad knee injury.

If I could be forgiven, I'm going to use this thread to post my Blog Report from Tuesday's SUFC U18 2-0 loss to Birmingham City. The Blog also contains my views on the First Team v Burton Albion. And, some Beers from the Sheffield Beer Week Barrel Aged Takeover at The Shakespeare.
New Professionals Marcus Dewhurst, Simeon Oure & (I think, no teamsheets) Jordan Doherty featured in the U18 game.

Marcus is the Goalkeeper. He was actually Captain yesterday. He's in the England U17 set up. There is often a guy in the FA tracksuit watching him at Shirecliffe or Stocksbridge. England U17 are preparing for the UEFA U17 EUROs which begin in early May. England are hosting that tournament. Some of the games will be very local - Chesterfield & Rotherham for eg. Big Plug to get yourselves along idc & support Marcus. (Although I feel he's probably 2nd or 3rd choice really). As hosts, England don't have to qualify. So, they are playing friendlies on most International Breaks. On this coming break, they have two games against Brazil (I think maybe in Spain). Hopefully Marcus will survive into that squad.

Jordan Doherty came on as a Sub for the U18s yesterday. He has represented Ireland at U19 level. I view his best position as an attacking midfielder. But, like many youngsters he's very versatile. He often features for the U23s. As the U23s have had to juggle injuries & suspensions & trialists & Callum Semple's comeback - Doherty has featured at Centre Back recently - even in the middle of a back three. His stature is not really suited to that. But, it emphasises the confidence Binnion & the staff have in him, his assurance on the ball & his game reading & general football intelligence. Better as an attacking midfielder imho.

Simeon Oure is a ball carrying, run at 'em, attacking midfielder or striker. To me, he looks a bit lightweight at the moment. But, he's got good pace & ball skills.

George Cantrill was mooching around Shirecliffe yesterday. But, not playing. I think he's suspended following a recent Red. I'd say he's basically a defender. He has played back of two, back of three, and also conventional left back in a four. Occasionally bags the odd goal as well.

Keenan Ferguson was not involved yesterday. I think he's injured. Keenan is a product of United's Futures Programme. An excellent set up. Where players are getting an Education, a second chance, or even an exit opportunity - to play, in a shop window, while attending college. No discards from this wonderful Club. Not quite good enough - we'll look after you. Great piece about Keenan & The Futures by James Shield

And, let the record show, I'm a big supporter of The Futures as it gets me to non-league grounds & MicroPubs that I otherwise wouldn't visit. Does it help the players - what do I care.....

Oliver Greaves is long term injured. He was coming into the "form of his life" before he picked up that injury. Really starting to shine. Often at U23 level (cameo). Again, I'd say an attacking midfield player. Although he's got the box to boxing going on as well. He'd come on leaps & bounds in my opinion. Good feet. Great eye for a pass.

Joe Ironside on the other hand.... anyway - don't forget The Blog

There are lads with eyebrows at 'my' gym too.

It never crossed my mind that they could be professional footballers. Just goes to show! o_O

Keenan Ferguson I think it is. Lifts a fair amount for his size but not quite at my level.

There's also a stocky lad who's always there in full Blades gear who has a mixed race complexion, light hair and blue eyes. Looks like a reight player.

I've seen Simon Moore, James Hanson and Hussey there before.

It's almost like Blades players use the same gym as me.
