Some time in the 80’s I went to Ewood Park on Shred’s coach. There were only around a thousand Blades (maybe less) there and Blackburn stuffed us 6-1.
In the second half somebody started a chant of “we’re so shit it’s unbelievable” that was quickly taken up by more than a few others.
Somebody called Jowitt (he seemed old to me at the time – but wasn’t) quickly walked around the terrace telling everybody to shut up or he’d try and make them.
We needed Jowitt at Scunthorpe.
The first chant was maybe justified, just to let Blackwell know what we thought. By the sixth I was embarrassed to sit there.
Yesterday, the majority of our fans sang the GCB and then sat in silence, particularly after Scunny scored their first goal (against the run of play). For the last 30 minutes all the chanting was negative and aiming at laughing at our own team.
How exactly is that supposed to lift a team playing so poorly and without confidence (for whichever of the hundreds of reasons posted on here)?
The idea of away games (for me) used to be a good day out with like minded folk to tell the home fans just how proud we are to be Blades - whatever was served up on pitches like Ewood Park. That was sorely missing yesterday, just spoilt men whining that the young boys on the pitch weren’t giving them a perfect day out.
Please, stay at home and let Jowitt have your ticket.
