He was with us on our rise from the 3rd division to the 1st and won player of the year the season we got promoted to the 1st. Of course people are going to look back at his time with us fondly.

You don't have to ask yourself whether the pigs ever had a better player in the same position everytime you talk about an ex players career with us. Unless of course you are a pig yourself, then it would just be instinct.
Meanwhile Pressman was with them in their “rise” from the Prem to league 2

I remember writing to Graham Taylor as a youth asking why Tracey wasn't in the England team in place of Woods. I received a stock reply which Taylor had signed in blue felt tip. Guess he wasn't allowed sharp objects.

Back then Dave Richards would have been pp-ing all stuff like that for Taylor ... blue felt tip the giveaway

He is an absolute gent he came to our house when I was still living at home on New Years day with John Gannon (John's wife (actually girlfriend then) and family were known through my Grandad's friends) as a surprise and gave me a signed pair of gloves. They stayed for about 3 hours, had a game of monopoly, ate a ton of cheese and biscuits. Nice guy.

John Gannon and Simon Tracey came round my house when I was a kid, funnily enough. Nice pair, especially Gannon who was more of a natural people person, I reckon.

Thats true, we got invited to John's wedding as my Grandad had a friendship with his wife's Grandmother at the time. It was at the Sheffield Moat house. This was way before smarthphones/camera phones. My brother took our video camera. It was a massive JVC thing that sat on your shoulder and plugged into a portable Sony VHS video recorder which you had on a strap on your other shoulder. You looked like a BBC outside broadcast camera man. When we watched it back it was mainly my Grandad chatting to all the players in turn, whiskey glass in hand. Glynn Hodges took a shine to my Grandad, God bless him, and there was plenty of shots of the two of them going round getting the other players to buy them Whiskey getting more drunk as the night went on. He had a brilliant time they really took to him as at that point he had been a Blade since early 1900's. Def Leopard also suddenly appeared at one point as they were staying there and didnt realise that there was a wedding on for a SUFC player. Not sure where that video went it was at my Grandad's at one point it probably got thrown away after he died not realising what it was. Might be at my Mum's.

Properly underrated Simon Tracey. That first year or so in the 1st Division (Premier League) he was on the brink of the England squad with Liverpool looking at him before he did his shoulder. Was still a great keeper but was never quite the same after that, could've been a real star.

When there were rumours of an Ireland call up, I remember people singing Ireland's No1 at QPR as he warned up. He shouted across something about he didn't qualify. All of a sudden someone piped up Egypt's No1. The penalty area was covered in lots of sand.

There was the briefest period in the early 90s when we had Jim Leighton (Scotland International) on a short termer, Tracey who had been pushing for England recognition, Mel Rees (RIP) who had just forced himself into Wales reckoning, tragically never to be realised) and Alan Kelly who was Eire understudy to Pat Bonner all on the books at the same time.
