With 1 year left on his contract maybe it's time to ditch Moore and try to recoup a tad of wonga. Not that it would be much (if anything) but at least it would free up a wage.

Now that we have Rammers firmly as no 1 surely for his own professional pride and career (he's still only 30) I'd have thought that he would want to move on and play some football. He signed an extended contract in 2018 so he's probably on a bob or 2 (relative to what we pay of course) to collect splinters on our bench. As part of the squad he will take a cut of our hefty bonus scheme too so perhaps he's happy just to sit there and pick up his money? With Foderingham, Verrips and Eastwood in the background I wouldn't be at all surprised if Chris tries to move him on. We know that Chris doesn't like players who are just happy to sit there thinking about their back pocket, as he puts it.

With the squad rules in place there is a need for a third keeper. Nothing I’ve seen has suggested anything other than Moore is the perfect player to have for that role. He works hard, doesn’t complain, and is part of the goalkeeping unit and it comes across as he is one of the more experienced and influential members of the squad

If he asks for move I’d allow to him have one, but if he is happy here carrying out a minor role in the squad then I’d keep him here. Don’t think he is one of those players who is just happy to pick up his money

If he's not on the bench for the first couple of games and not gone by the end of the transfer window (5 October), then I would beg to differ! There's a good chance we'll still be in the prem at the end of the season, so that would be another lovely little bonus too.

So I’m guessing that you have already made your mind up that he is a player who is happy to pick a wage up for very little in return.

I’ll present a little scenario. It comes to November, Foderingham has pulled a hamstring, Ramsdale then gets sent off during a game we are holding a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes to to, who do you think Chris Wilder would want in the net?

I'd have thought it would be likely for Verrips and Eastwood (when fit) to go out on loan to gain experience.

I'm not sure that's really as applicable to goalkeepers. It's not like they come on for the last 15 minutes of games and get a chance to try to play their way into the starting lineup. Unless the first choice has a major loss of form or injury there's limited chance to get into the team so you need players who are happy to be on the bench and supportive of the other keepers which moore seems to be.

waits for someone to say "put Jagielka in goal" because apparently some people still think that's funny 😐

I think his Old Trafford showing confirmed, where he went down about 3 days too early for their first goal prompting CW to ask him, "what the fuck are you doing" at HT Moore isnt anywhere near good enough. That said, Foderingham may not offer much improvement! Don't know what's going on with Verrips though?

Interesting though on the videos posted of the Keepers training it is just Rambo, Wes and Dewhurst...... no sign of Moore or Verrips...???

We need 3 Keepers so Rambo & Wes plus one of Moore and Verrips I suppose...

That first goal against Man U was 100% the Defence’s fault and 0% Moore’s fault. I doubt Wilder was having a go at him for that.

It's really a case of moving either Moore or Verrips on. Assuming Verrips is at the right standard, Moore seems the better option to sell on. He's older and had a (albeit limited) chance at the top level, without impressing. I think it's also telling that he's not been 'trusted' since we got promoted back to the Championship.

Seems a likeable guy, but we can't keep players around on sentiment.

It makes more sense to send Verrips out on loan so he can get game time and increase his experience of English football

That's a good point actually. Send him out this season on loan, get game time, experience and a proper assessment. We have Moore as 3rd choice for another year and then make a call next summer.

Goalkeepers are weird, they can have a lucrative career by only playing a handful of games. I think Hendo spoke a lot about the influence that Moore has in training and how he is about the place, this goes a long way to help the first choice GK.

Ian Bennett was the one for me that was a quality keeper but averaged 18 games a season over 25 years in the game, must be frustrating but it's a requirement of being a keeper.

Perfect 3rd keeper if he’s happy to stay. He isn’t going to play but knows the club inside out fits in well with the players and has shown loyalty over a number of seasons. He can also do a job, very short term if we do need to call on him.

We should be trying to move him on permanently if possible. We should also send out verrips on loan. (Maybe to Beerschot?) For game time.

We then have
Ramsdale
Foderingham
Eastwood

There's an argument for keeping one of the top 2 for our third keeper but Ramsdale doesnt seem to have an injury record to be wary of.

It's arguable giving a 34 year old centre forward a 2 year extension says otherwise.
Sharp made positive contributions to the side last year and I'd guess, does a lot of work behind the scenes.

Personally I think keeping good, solid, experienced players on the periphery like Sharp and Moore is only a good thing, they can come in to the side when required and do a job, but their real value is the role they play is setting the example amongst the squad. They demand the best from themselves, are the ones who set the example and in turn demand the best from those around them.

Sometimes we forget that there is more to life than playing football.
How many turn up to work to earn money and for no other reason ? Isn’t that what the third choice keeper does ?
Kids at school and wife / partner at work are reasons also not to move.
Maybe, just maybe, he likes living in Sheffield.

Eastwood out injured for 4 months, also on loan in Scotland.

Moore comes across as very professional. Doesn't look the type to sulk despite the fact he isn't playing. I do think he could move to get football though.

Agree.......looks like he’s good mates with Billy Sharp too...notice on the club videos how they usually turn up to training together.
To be honest if Moore enjoys training and camaraderie at the SU training ground....then maybe he’s not bothered about 1st team football.
He’s in a kind of comfort zone and will be on a decent wage too. I can understand why he’d want to stay.
As daft as it sounds maybe Wilder likes what Moore brings OFF the field...he doesn’t complain...he supports his teammates and improves morale.

Jags?

He's back at utd for rehab, was a 6 month loan so no point him staying in Scotland when he would be out for at least 4 months of it

If he was 36/37 maybe yes. He's just turned 30 and as a keeper is coming into his prime. He's also just seen 2 keepers brought in that are higher in the pecking order. That's got to hurt, surely.

Let's have a third choice keeper who chucks his teddies out, exudes negativity around the place, and has no interest in helping the other keepers when he's not in the first team instead.

Sounds like a plan.

or just sit there nice and quiet picking up your dosh, plus a cut of the hefty bonuses, then walk away in 10 months time out of contract for another pile of dosh - probably warming somebody else's bench. Nice work if you can get it!
