For those with long memories, the last time we were in a promotion scrap with Leeds was 1989/90.

And to be honest with you, the run in that season has remarkable similarities...

21.03.1990 West Ham United away L0-5
24.03.1990 Barnsley home L1-2
28.03.1990 Oldham Athletic away W2-0
31.03.1990 Stoke City away W1-0
03.04.1990 Sunderland home L1-3
07.04.1990 Portsmouth away L2-3
10.04.1990 Watford home W4-1
14.04.1990 Oxford United home W2-1
16.04.1990 Leeds United away L0-4
21.04.1990 Port Vale home W2-1
28.04.1990 Bournemouth home W4-2
01.05.1990 Blackburn Rovers away D0-0
05.05.1990 Leicester City away W5-2

If you look at March and April, we drop 15 points, and get our arses whipped at Upton Park, and of course,at Elland Road (exaclty 30yrs ago tomorrow), where after being in the top 2 almost all season, we drop down to 3rd. If this site had been about at that time, we would have been slitting our wrists and chucking ourselves off Norfolk Park flats based on that form.

But we still believed we could do it, and as it was, we did. The only reason the Dirties won the championship was because they scored 1 poxy goal more than we did.

So - summon the spirit of 1990 - and in the words of Yazz (the tune that resonated around the Lane in that season), the only way is up....

PS In that team that season - a certain Mr Christopher John Wilder esquire.

That point is made above and I think you've missed the whole point.

I’m thinking it has more in common with 11/12. Lose our star striker towards the end of the season, the goals dry up, our bitter Yorkshire rivals pop us to the autos, and we lose in the most boring match of football in existence in the playoff finals.

I went to all of those bar the Pompey/Watford/Oxford games when I was on holiday.

It was a bumpy ride , with no fretting about loyalty points....

Season tocket holder and went home and away back then. Remember being at Elland Road that day. It snowed, hailed and just about everything else. Horrible day at a horrible place and a horrible result. Nothing like the negativity you see round here though.

And when it comes to crap owners, I give you uncle Reg Brearley.

I was at all those except West Ham (thankfully:confused:) and yes, it was a similar rollercoaster to the one we are on now!

Hold on tight :)

I seem to recall there were a few scares in some of the games we actually won too. Didn't we come back from a goal down in both the Vale and Oxford games and at least one of them was won with a last minute own goal?
I think the proportion of late goals that we scored that season is probably similar to ones conceded this. I remember the vale game when deano scored in front of the kop, there seemed an inevitability about it. This time around it’s the opposite. I’m not trying to be negative it’s just under DB we always finished strongly at home and broke teams into submission. Late goals are massive, absolutely critical in promotion pushes.

I was at both drubbings that season. I do remember getting chucked out of the Upton Park game after about 15 mins due to being a bit too vociferous and using a 2 finger salute at the wet sham fans. I was let in about 15 minutes later as the plod deemed it not safe for me to be stood around on my own in full United colours waiting for the away coaches to turn up!!. Remember celebrating wildly afterwards because boro had been stuffed at Newcastle or was it the other way round?. ⚔️⚔️

remember driving back from Upton Park in my mates Golf Gti. They smashed his windscreen and we had to drive home, with the heater on and our heads as low as possible to avoid the wind blowing in . miserable after getting dicked 5-0

Apologies...29yrs tomorrow rather than 30 years ago.

Because the events of 30 yrs ago should never be forgotten, and the 96 no longer with us should never walk alone... #jft96

Couldn't give a fuck. These incessant prediction posts and desperate attempts to point out pointless irrelevant circumstances scream of Adkinsism.

What will be will be.

I'll get behind the team at all the remaining games. I don't need constant pointless posts effectively telling me to keep my chin up.

On this very day - 15 April 2006, Leeds United failed to beat Reading which gave us Automatic Promotion as we had beaten Cardiff the day before. Only Leeds could mathematically catch us but they won only once in their final 10 games.

We were 11pts ahead of them by this point though

Don't let it get you down.

The last time we were In a promotion scrap with Leeds was 05/06.

In neither 89/90 or 05/06 did we lose our star man with 4 games to go.

We had some fucking right ones around then didn't we. What with Brearley, Woolhouse and McDonald. With the latter we'd have been better going with Ronald than Mike.................

Would have won the title if they weren't such bottlers and just being happy enough to play second fiddle to Leeds

We never went three points behind 2nd all season in 1989/90. But, we do very well at bouncing back so lets hope that's the case this season. I'm confident we can get at least 10 points, but that might not be enough now.

Big Vern can READ?

He often reads the classics to relax after a night's work. The other night I caught him sat in the Discovery reading Of Mice and Men. He's got hidden layers has Vern..................
