Silky type shirts remind me of early 50.s FACF's but also early floodlit games at the Lane. Memory says, if it serves me right, Utd. had a red and white halves (silky) shirts kit. Wonder what happened to those? Must be some Telegraph/Star photos around, yes-no.

I saw photo of us wearing white shirts with red sleeves in an away match during the 1949-50 season

This is the photo I saw of the 1925 FA Cup semi final. Not 100% sure if David Mercer was wearing red shirt. If Southampton were wearing white then it is likely our shirts were red

Thanks for all the replies. Love all the one-offs and the stories/reasoning behind them!

Keep them coming.
We once had to borrow Doncasters away kit in a League cup tie late 70s. A Hibs style green with white sleeves. Looked daft with our home shorts of black with red trim and white socks with red trim. Both our home, the Ajax broad stripe one and the away white clashed with Rovers.

Don't know that one, although there is a photo of Sir James in one but always though it was a touched up photo if you'll excuse the phrase. Found it but think it's been on here before. Also there is a coloured version knocking around.Jimmy Hagan 2_500 Retouched photo showing shirt that never existed.jpg Surely this is the Lane?

Doesn't look like the Lane to Bert.

Yes believe your right there and what a great photo. Thank You. One of Mi granddad's favs was David Mercer, both members of the wingers union probably that was his thinking.

On reflection it's not, can now see a railing running down the terracing. Thought it was the end of BL shed. Ta for that, have you any thoughts where it may be ?

They should sell that in the club shop. I’d buy one.
I did a DIY version for the Cup semi-final vs, Hull.
Bought one of these off Amazon, and had a large number 10 printed on the back.

And we got stuffed too!

The one I saw was the one Denis Clareborough showed to me about 20 years ago. I think it was a County Cup match at Barnsley and the Blades players were chairing keeper Jack Smith as it was supposed to be his final game (he played a few more the following season). Our players wore the same shirt as your photo.

Cheers Maidenhead! Great shirt

Starting offer of £200!!!

Liking these shirt collections. I have spent over £1000 on my retro blades shirts now. But does anybody collect tracksuit tops aswell ? Some of those 90,s ones were reyt good.

Sorry mate, you could add two noughts and it still wouldn't be for sale.

As I've said before it was given to me by an Umbro rep and the the embroidered badge must be pretty rare.

Additionally I've lost so much weight that it just about fits me again ;)

Woah. Only just realised the badges were embroided. Nice

My first Blades shirt, circa 1971 from Archers.
Had the big square Sheffield coat of arms badge which was transferred to my next one, 75/76 Admiral version, from Suggs I believe. This was less successful in many ways, least of all, after the first time it was washed it come out with red and pink stripes.

yes, I think the photo cropped up on the Old Photos FNRW thread - and I found the original photo where Hagan was wearing an all-white shirt, as I do, I'm sure I came up with some daft reason for it ... though I forget what it wasn't.

As for the red breast-pockets on the white shirts, we probably bought the shirts second hand from somewhere and had to cover up the original badge because we have always been stingy.

and I didn't see any of the old timers explaining to the young pups that in the FA Cup, it was traditional for BOTH teams to wear a changed strip in t'olden days hence borrowing kits from the Rovers and Barnsley ... but it clearly doesn't explain the tangerine kit at St. James' Park ?

Whoops, tell a lie ....... on second thoughts, I think I found this photo of Hagan playing for England with it's 'artistic interpretation' as a Sheffield United kit ..... ?
