Greenwich Blade - i absolutely love reading these. I find them fascinating.. you should write a book ;), seriously though, i really should buy that!

Have you ever been picked up by a set of away fans and taken all the way ?

He usually does, or a Megabus, that's why some wag christened him The Cheating Thumb, although that was after he had a lift from Bert, starting from the South Stand car park......

Indeed he did, Bert was heading for Syria straight after a game so he took the afore mentioned Greenwich Blade directly from the South Stand to London in the Bert Benz.
Bert is giving Syria a miss these days.

lol - reminds me of a conversation once had with an old fella up here who'd lived in the Dales all his life.Said he went to the "big city" once and didn't like it much. "Leeds or Bradford?" I asked - "No, Otley" he says.
My lads just moved to Raf Leeming and he asked what the nearest town was for nightlife ,Northallerton :) ,pissed off doesn't come near :)

Many times; Fulham fans, a Watford fan, a Leeds fan on the way back to London after we'd done them in the FA Cup Quarter Final. And plenty of others.

Plus, look up Fever Hitch on Amazon; it's quite cheap on there.

There's a piece in a James Heriot book where a Dales Farmer goes to London and decides he doesn't like London because he has to take "... big steps and little 'uns, big steps and little 'uns. "

Great town is Otley by the way

I often think of that "big steps and little 'uns" quote when I'm picking my way up Oxford Street.

Brilliant, as ever Greenwich. Are we looking at Further Adventures of the Thumb in bookshops soon?

pommpey

"Wish You Were Here? - the Difficult Follow-up to Fever Hitch" has been occupying my thoughts of late, I must admit. Not that I'm likening Fever Hitch to The Dark Side of the Moon of course; well, certainly not the sales.

I am supposed to be writing a book about my Tesco career but I've hit a rocky patch with that.

Yarm which aint that far away is Ok .
Yarm used to be a great place for a night out I recall when used to work up that way 3 days a week. Seem to recall a big nightclub/dance event at the Tall Trees as well, not my scene but popular with the young uns.

Why go to Oxford St? Apart from HMV I can't think of a reason. It's for tourists. I always use the side streets in the west end, can't be doing with all those idiots who just stop dead to gawp at something in a shop window.

I sometimes find myself there by mistake.

I had a contract near Darlington my lads went to Yarm every Thursday night (they were lodging) they said it was brilliant.
Hardly owt got done Fridays .
Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday they grafted bless em so we were all happy.

It's nearly done but one or two things got in the way a bit over the last couple of days. I actually wrote a bit on the Megabus coming up today; you know, the bus that got me into Meadowhall for 1 o'clock meaning a nice leisurely train journey to Chesterfield for a 3 o'clock kick-off.

There will also be a piece appearing this weekend on the record number of times I have arrived late for kick-off this season, with star billing reserved for Chesterfield away, whenever that was.

You're waiting for that superinjunction to be lifted aren't you Greenwich :D

I used to stop over some nights when I worked up that way and had a few good nights out in Yarm. Loads of pubs all packed I recall.

Once I stopped at the Tall Trees and I went to use the gym which was in a separate building. When I came out in my shorts and sweaty vest (was in my 40s and more overweight and less fit than I am now) a crowd of several hundred teenagers, mainly lasses by the look, were queueing to get in the nightclub part and I had to weave through em to get back to the hotel. IMO sarcastic wolf whistles are worse than none at all ;-)

I used to have the book but never got around to reading it. Really should grab a copy.
