No but they call them "United" which is annoying.Alternatively it fucks people off because they look beyond the Sheffield post code and see it as disrespectful because know one goes around calling Manchester United, Manchester..
Let’s Go SheffieldThe original names of the teams in Sheffield were:-
Sheffield
Hallam
The Wednesday
The United
When anyone says United I always say “Do you mean The United or Manchester?”
As the World’s First, Sheffield Club have quite a lot of international members. A top half finish this season - and a new stadium to come - they’ll soon be on their way up and passing The Wednesday on their way down!

I used to call Man U Manchester all the time. Obviously now things have changed and City are more relevant.A friend gets annoyed when I call Plymouth Argyle just Plymouth. I've tried to change. I didn't think there was anything wrong with that as they're a one City club. But they only call themselves Argyle.
Nobody calls Man Utd or Man City just "Manchester". Ever. Which is the most obvious and relevant point. Personally think it makes the person saying "Sheffield" look clueless about football and/or clueless about how to talk.
A million percentage this. Living in Bristol it pisses me off when people refer to Rovers or City as ‘Bristol’ but lots of blades who hate being called Sheffield do it on here. Rovers are my second team so it annoys me more. It's the same with Bristol City. I try and remember to add the City when talking about the more successful of the two teams but almost inevitably just call them Bristol and their reaction is the same as ours.
The Manchester conundrum is easy: just refer to them by their original name of Newton Heath.
The difference between Manchester and Sheffield is that there's no club (as far as I know) called Manchester FC, but there is a Sheffield FC.
Why call Sheff Utd "Sheffield" if you're not going to call Man Utd "West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC"?
Lazy, and disrespectful to the oldest club in the world.
No, they refer to themselves as United, which boils my piss. I had a barney the other night with an entitled Man U wanker. " which United", I said, " Sheffield, Oxford, Peterboro" ? Fucking Newton Heath. And breathe..............Alternatively it fucks people off because they look beyond the Sheffield post code and see it as disrespectful because know one goes around calling Manchester United, Manchester..
I refer to the Blades as United as well. It seems to wind man United fans up for some reason like they have a copyright on it.No, they refer to themselves as United, which boils my piss. I completely agree. Hope we’re not embarrassed by some twerps writing to Gary Lineker complaining about him calling us « Sheffield » as they did three years agoWhy do people get so het up over being referred to as Sheffield.
For me, it's a compliment, there's only one team in Sheffield so everyone knows who the person is referring to.
Let's be honest, outside of England, nobody has even heard of a fucking Sheffield Wednesday if they're under 30 years old.
Get a lifeOn Radio 5, the day after Spurs had lost heavily at Newcastle, there was a discussion, about Spurs ( the presenter was a Spurs fan). He had a Spurs and Newcastle fan on. The presenter and the Spurs fan were discussing where it went wrong for Spurs, and the both kept referring to the Sheffield cup game, more than once it was referred to as the Sheffield game. That boiled my piss, I was shouting at the bloody radio, it was the Sheffield United or simply the United Game…….. bloody disrespectful. Southern Gits
Fuck offGet a life
Don't think we were ever officially 'The United'. The football club came out of Sheffield United Cricket & Athletic club. Supposedly there was also a Plymouth United that had a football club before us, though Sheffield United as an entity predates thatThe original names of the teams in Sheffield were:-
