spending £16m on Clucas and £18m on Andre Ayew didn’t get us very far did it, and you can add to the list?(from Swans forum)

Swansea have spent big on 'failures', as we've spent very little on ours

Hard one to predict, but with my red and white specs on I'll go for 2:1 Blades.

Anything less than a win will be a disappointment.

It could be like playing Brentford again - even if they don't sign Ryan Woods.

They have a lot of quick, nimble footballers with good technical ability.

But there are questions about their solidarity and mentality. I imagine a lot of those players want to leave.

narrow 2-1 win, they've actually not a win at the Lane since the thirties. Haven't met too often though. Clark and Woodbourne from the bench.

Can't wait, like a kid a Christmas. Flying over Friday night, flying back Sunday morning. Cant miss the first game of the season. Hopefully will have Waghorn / Woodburn / both over the line!

I've been letting uncontrolled little trumps out for 2 days.

Tough opener followed by boro, bit like the start of last season I think, Brentford, boro and Cardiff in the opening games.

Just back from my hols where I got talking to a Swansea fan. He thinks they are in turmoil and are doing a Sunderland this season. He also said he wished they would have gone for Wilder as he doesn't rate this new guy. Apparently there is a lot of infighting and bad attitude at the club.

I fancy us. We have strengthened in the right areas on top of a well established and drilled squad who understand the manager's system inside out now.

Potter knows his stuff and will make Swansea a decent outfit eventually once he has shaped the team. But I can see them starting slowly as he and the players get used to each other.

Going for 3:1 Blades, an optimistic scoreline perhaps but I think we will over run them.

Excellent.

That bodes well for us if true.

We really need to win this one with the Boro game now inexplicably being played the following Tuesday. Then there's QPR away and we never, ever win in London.

Just checked the ticket sales plan web site.
Ticket sales are well down on any match last season.
Quite a lot of tickets left in all areas.

It’s looking like a dissapointing 22 or 23,000 crowd.
Maybe loads are still on holiday?
Maybe we’ll sell a 1000+ tomorrow?
Maybe the cat A pricing along with it being shown on Sky have deterred a few 1000.

Think we’ll win 2-1
We need a win as it’s followed by 2 tough away games (Boro and QPR) where we lost last season.

It’s only fooking match day everyone. I’ll be watching from Cornwall, good luck to everyone going.

Swansea fan mate isn't travelling like many others due to protest against the owners.

They want their club back.

Comfortable 2-0 home win. McGoldrick in the first half, Billy with the second from the bench.

So finally the new season arrives, and what a cracking opening match in prospect. Live on TV as arguably it's one of the most attractive fixtures of the EFL opening weekend....

Swansea still have some talented players, but have seen a number leave, while obviously our recruitment has been steady and targeted. Perhaps just lacking another striker, which hopefully will be sorted in the coming week...

Anyway...

Any team news? :)

Of the new boys, surely Henderson, Egan and McGoldrick all start?

Duffy probably also with Woodburn likely stepping off the bench early second half?

Otherwise a fairly familar bunch make up the rest?

With Sharp likely to feature late on, whether necessary or not? (I fancy him to score :) )

At this stage of the season, no one really knows how things will go. Often first day matches do not actually give much indication of what may come, but hopefully we get off to a good start and I fancy a 2-1 Blades victory.

Enjoy the day folks....

Football is back :)

Feeling quite confident this morning. I would like to see Duffy and Sharp start.

Trying to predict today is a little like trying to predict this season.

I think we could finish anywhere from 6th to 20th and can easily see all three results today.

Hopefully this is the best time to play a relegated club and we can get off to a flier.

First day of the season is always the hardest to predict. You get all kinds of crazy results. A newly-relegated side at home is a pretty solid way for us to start. I'm hoping for a big crowd and for the fans to get behind the team. A win would be fantastic, especially with that tough away trip to Boro in a few days. But a point would be fine. I'm interested to see who starts up top.
