Sometimes your posts are complete b*ll*cks unfortunately this is a perfect example !

Blackburn, Wolves, Bristol C, Ipswich, Wigan all lost to lower clubs last night. Now without looking at the lineups I would guess they are a lot different to Saturdays. This is a game we can do without. The good thing about it is as people have said above, it's another game for the players to gel, that is the only good thing I can see with it.

Why do so many teams rest players if it's not a nothing game? The league should be our only aim this season.

If we can get to the 3rd round with weaker lineups then start taking it seriously.

As much as the FA Cup run last season was welcome and great, we were resting players in the games before the cup - Brentford, Orient, Peterborough, Rotherham. We drew two of those games 0-0. If we had beaten them we would've finish 1pt behind Peterborough. Now if we were that close, I imagine the Oldham and Tranmere games would've been contested stronger by us.

For me, the cup runs are good and exciting but last season we still had a slim hope of promotion so shouldn't have rested players in league games.

Dead right, what I don't understand is how some fans still quote that stupid "Could do without a cup run bolox"
Players don't get fatigued when they're winning.
The Cup run rescued last season from disaster.
2002-03 was one of our most exciting seasons for decades
1997-98 was the one shining light at a miserable time
1992-93 provided some excitement in an otherwise crap season and we survived in the Prem.

I hope we get a cup run in both cups because we always have a better season when we do.
A couple of ways that we can look at this. Really go for it, get as far as we can: or, use these games as intensive training. Either way we win. Or we get a work out and are fitter for our league games

Over the summer we have signed ten new players, unfortunately at present some of those players have not had much game time, some have been injured and realistically Mr Clough has got to find the right players for the various formations he wishes to play - Tonight is an ideal opportunity to select some of those players that didn't make the starting line up on Saturday Doyle, Collins,JCR McNulty, McGinn, Porter, Diego all need game time !
It's not a game we could do without, it's an opportunity to get the rest of the lads a game and sharpen them up !

Guaranteed jinx but anyway, we could get Man U (or the pigs) in the next round...

Mansfield have sold all their allocation of tickets and asked for more.

Should be a crowd of around 10000.

3-1 win for me

You're probably correct but I'm not so sure we will get 1 though, especially if Higdon is rested ;)

Not optimistic at all about this game, all I can envisage is getting knocked out to Burton on penalties.

At this point, certainly not a game we could do without, rather a game we really need.

Flynn and Scougs are not yet firing on all four, Jcr is a talent I would like to see more of. McNulty certainly needs game time, as does Higdon. The back needs time to gel as we all know and NC needs to see how the players cope under the microscope.

All in all, a very necessary match. I'm not even too bothered if we win, lose or draw, as long as the players get "gel" time, fitter and Nigel figures out who he wants where as the league game at the weekend is important.

Personally, I would be delighted with a clean sheet.

I actually think tonight's game is a bit more important than a lot of people are giving it credit for.
If we lose tonight then that's two on the bounce and yet another defeat to a Div 4 side (that would be 3 so far this season)

This worries me because it tells us that there no spine in the side - no fight or will to overcome a physical challenge.
It also tells me that NC is no where near having a clear vision of who his best side is.

I won't accept any of this bollocks about new players bedding in - Bristol had 5 or 6 debutants on Saturday and when Charlton pissed this league a couple of seasons ago Chris Powell had to build a team from scratch - from virtually nothing.

There will be plenty of games this season where we have to compete on a physical level to beat the opposition.
If we are complacent to the extent that we feel our "superior skill" at a footballing level with win through then we are on to a rough ride.

Just like I said we wont get 1! But with super Chris Porter we will get 3

Ha! - Porter getting 3 - when was the last time that happened ?

It was against us at Bramall Lane in a reserve game I believe - before his release from Derby

If we had won against Bristol on Saturday then I wouldn't have been too bothered about the result tonight but we don't want to loose two games on the trot so I think it's important we win tonight but I've just seen the line up and I'm confused, I'm guessing Davies will be at RB again but not sure where McNulty or Baxter will play. I'm guessing McNulty/Baxter either on the left or right with JCR on the other wing, Baxter/McNulty playing behind Porter and Doyle and McGinn in the centre of midfield of a 4-2-3-1 sort of formation
