In fairness, from a United perspective it probably hasn't.
 
Really enjoyed that.
I felt other highlights were :-
1. John Harris' instructions to new signing Hockey - "battle, win the ball, give it to Currie".
2. Hockey's goal late in the game at home to Millwall where he burst through, clashed with the keeper, but still managed to sweep the ball in despite being on the floor.
3. Gil Reece's double at home to Birmingham including one where he beat about 3 or 4 players before scoring.

I think 1974-5 topped it. Finishing just 4 points behind the league champions. We were pretty good that season. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, pride comes before a fall...............................and what a fall that ended up being.

That Hull match made quite an impression on Walth Snr, he still can't mention ex-Pig Ken Knighton without spitting.

My Dad talks about that team all the time. He was a teenager at the time and they are still his all time heroes (Currie and Woodward especially). He also gives memorable accounts of both of the games you mention. The Hull game was indeed our only defeat at home that season and he said he couldn't sleep that night.....that's how good that team was, he wasn't used to seeing them lose at home.

On a related matter, I can't watch this video. On here or on YouTube. Says it's not available.

Great work again WB...Loads of memories..Tudor off the bench to sink Wendy..a 5-0 victory over Blackburn..beating Luton with Supermac in their line up...Kicked off the park by an X rated Hull..that Birmingham game that was part of a great run in,with that Gil Reece brace that Coax mentioned..both great goals..the one towards us on the Kop where he ran through the Brum back line ...what a goal...a rammed Lane v Cardiff under the lights,and then Watford on the final day,and running onto the pitch.
 
Bert saw all the homes that season and for the aways it was either the train or one of these aptly names coaches from Pond St.

I was the same age, came out thinking just the same after celebrating on the pitch.
That team is the reason I still support the Blades.
From a famous Scottish anthem "will we ever see the likes again"
I can only dream.
 
I can watch the old Blade footage every day of the week. Superb seeing the good times and I remember the Cardiff game with all the atmosphere which I'll never forget. What a night that was.
 
Excellent work young man - bring a tear to a glass eye that.

This was my debut season , first match a victory over Leicester on Boxing Day. Their 123 that day read Shilton,Whitworth and Nish all future England internationals, put to the sword however by the Mighty Blades.

Fourth one down: John Flynn? Not sure and I haven't got a clue re the bloke on the right.

The black-jacketed chap on the photo with Ted?

One thing I do know, though. That bloke who appears in each and every photograph is an ugly-looking bugger.

You are right about Hodgy, Hope, Eddie, Billy, Geoff, Len, Ted and TC.

"Errol" is there but he is in the black jacket with Ted.

You didnt identify the the two players in the 4th photo. The player on the left didnt play in a league or Cup match in the 1970-71 season, he played 3 league games in the 1968-69 season, played in 1 league and 2 cup games in the 1969-70 season. After the 1970-71 season he played 18 more league games for us before moving to a lower league club and scored for them in a match against us at the Lane. I had always thought he is quite tall (nearly 6 foot according to a programme) but at the reunion he seemed to be only 5 foot 7 inches! The player on the right played in only one League match in the 1970-71 season
 
Graeme Crawford? £10,000 from East Stirling.

The other guy, (doesn't look anything like him) but I think he played the last three games of the 1968/69 season - Dave Staniforth?

Correct for both players. I was surprised that it was Dave Staniforth as he seemed to have shrunk in height!
