just watched some footage of this game and noticed the pitch was surrounded by a barrier of straw bails, the only access was where the players ran out onto the pitch, well I say pitch even that had straw all over it, anyone have any info why it was like this.

Never thought about the frost makes sense now, must have been a job to move it all then re cover the pitch.

My dad said Winter 1947 was worse than 1962-63.
