Sharp

Would have offered another year on reduced terms, maybe heavily incentivised on playing time. Still looked handy when coming on as sub towards the end of the season.
If he's been offered something and turned it down as not being enough then it's the right decision.

Suppose it explains why he went off his nut at Osula now.

Might have been last chance he gets at a goal
Did think that myself....

Sharp if he is going, goes as a legend for us and he has still played his part this season in our promotion and cup run.

All depends on what Sharp is wanting and the club is wanting, if Sharp wants more minutes then we can offer then he has to move on.
If he is happy to be very much a bit part player next season (99% sub only appearances and potentially goes games without some) then for the right wage I'd have him around for his experience and dressing room influence. I'd also be happy to see him be coach/player.

Whilst his fitness is still good you can't argue the goals have started to dry up this season for him. Although do think unlucky not to grab 3-4 more this season in the games he's played.
But next season he will be 38 too, he is at the end of his career.

If true who is odds on for Captain next season? I know Norwood has had an officialish Vice role but he isnt suitable to step up to the plate. George could be a good option always gives 100% and goes about his business in a professional manner.

Sharp will always be a Blades Legend no denying it, depending on him if he wants to continue to play and if he can if wants to drop wages yet again.

Egan has been captain for 2 seasons now. Billy is club captain.

Jack Robinson wore the arm band v Preston when Sharp went off, but before Egan came on.

It’s a shame as we don’t have a better finisher at club, sad we couldn’t give him a spot on bench for season

Would we settle for the traditional approach of just captain and not needing the "Club captain" role or can we afford to pay Sharp to be a dressing room motivator

I'd guess in reality Egan is vice captain.

If funds allow I would’ve offered Billy a coaching role, starting at the academy
He can carry on playing for another 2 or 3 seasons and earn far in excess of what an academy coach gets paid, he's also got his own coaching company so he'd probably prefer to feather his own nest in that respect.

Exactly, as you say he has barely scored this season. Actually this season has been his worst season for goals with just 2 Championship goals in 38 appearances. Last season he got 14 in 39. It's clear since his return from injury at the end of last season there has been a big drop off. It isn't like he hasn't had the game time either especially when McBurnie has been dipping in and out of form and Brewster has been out most of the season. We have a 25 man squad in the Premier League and is Sharp someone we can afford to have him in that? He scored 3 goals in both our Premier League seasons last time but do we see him even doing that again at his age?

I still think the bloke is a legend though and deserves a great big statue in that car park. 3 promotions and helped save the club from ending up in League 2.

As a few have already said, the term 'Legend' gets banded about with a lot of frivolity these days, but its probably the only way I could describe Billy. A really sad day if true, but I wish him nothing but the best.

I'll be talking to my kids about him the way my dad spoke to me about Tony Currie.

Gutted for him not to get his 250th goal with us ,But its clears up around 22k a week for someone younger to come in

I can't understand why Billy is, (evidently) so pissed off about the news. He's 38 and has just struggled to make an impact for the majority of the season in the Championship.

Everyone has to be realistic, fans, club and more importantly Billy himself.
But his unwavering belief in himself is part of what has made him such a great player.

He will be pissed off but it’s the right decision. It was either leave the club with them promoted or leave in a year with us likely relegated.

Best of luck to billy for the future, a real legend not only for united but for all of the efl, old father time catches up with everyone, hope he gets a special send off tommorrow. Thanks for the memories Billy
