Sharp + cash for Murphy

I work in Leeds and the Leeds fans have been banging on about this for well over a week...

£1.5m plus Billy would be a fair offer. Football clubs make me laugh. They think he's worth a certain amount, we think he's worth double. Surely that should be discussions over then? If they rate him that much they can pay his market value.

Problem is does anyone know that value?

It's whatever the club says it is until they sell him. We don't know for certain what United are asking for if anything. If it's £1.5m plus Sharp then United probably value him at around £2.5m by my estimation.

The other way of looking at this is from Leeds' point of view (like we care). If you were a Leeds supporter and saw your proven goal scoring centre forward and a wedge of cash exchanged for a winger unproven above League One level, how would you react?

The value of either player is a matter of perspective.

That's entirely my point. If something is based upon perspective then to me that's not reliable enough to say he's got a definitive value.

And we said (in the words of Harry Enfield) "no Nigel no". IMHO JM is one of those players who can grow and mature into an even more influential player for us than last season. We should not be selling him unless we get a ridiculous offer say £3 mill plus. We should certainly not be swapping him for BS who has not performed goal wise for several seasons and is almost certainly past his peak. Furthermore JM presumably fits into our current wage structure whereas BS almost certainly does not. It is difficult to find good players. When you have them keep them.

Leeds got Sharp on an undisclosed fee, believed to be them taking on Billy's wage. I can't see how they can consider doing anything but the same to us, especially considering he had a 'meh' season at best.

It'll be £250k plus we given them that back plus £1.2m for Sharp. Oh, and we get a freiendly with them.

£2M or £2.5M + Sharp

Thing is Guesty, if Murphy were sold it wouldn't we be shooting ourselves in our foot? Murphy can supply the crosses for Done, Adams, McNulty, or whoever else plays upfront. There's no point removing a line of supply and find our attacking threat is disabled. This season I assumed we'd be making an all-out attempt at securing promotion, and to sell one of our best attackers seems at odds with that ambition. Next season, assuming we get promoted, we'll be glad we kept Murphy, but promotion might become a pipedream if we revert to our historical roots and continue to sell our best players. What message does that send to the other players in our squad? It says we are opportunistic and lack nerve, so if an offer arrives, get your agent in the manager's office pronto, the chance may not happen again because the club are going nowhere.

Anyone who doubts Murphy's quality should ask why he's wanted by other teams? Or are we here just to provide good players so that other teams benefit from their quality? If so, it makes a nonsense of the talk about promotion, the Championship, and eventually the Premiership.

Why would we want Billy back when we already have Done and McNulty of a similar type who are younger and score more goals nowadays than Billy?

I'll take a guess at Billy being a completely different type of player to Done and being better than McNulty.

If the 500k bid has been accepted I think that means swap deal for Murphy is off the table. People can argue about Murphy's form but when he is on form he's a class above this league.

You are entitled to your opinion but I think that McNutts could flourish under our new manager. He will certainly be faster than last season as he will not be carrying his manager on his back;)

Whatever weight he's lost from that seems to have been more than cancelled out by his holiday, based on the photos from the squad training.

Not as good as Sharp at the moment. Might be one day but not even close yet.

In my humble we don't need Sharp but we need Murphy, it would be a bad bit of business for me. Especially if the deal included a fee for Billy as well as Murphy.
