Set Pieces/Crosses

Someone said on another thread we are 24th in the league for crosses into the box. Our corners and Robinsons "throw in" are also laughable.

It is probably late in the day to change this now but I'd suggest we need a set piece coach next season.

Our tactic of trying to score the perfect goal is draining and there has been multiple times this season when we are far to slow to break or we go backwards instead of forwards, there was one yesterday where we were on the attack and it ended up back with Cooper, happens all time.

I won't have it that players like Rak Sak, Brooks, Burrows, Sereki can't be coached to cross balls info the box and Campbell, Cannon, Moore be on them. Surely we need some variety?

Knill was lauded in the first spell for been inventive on set pieces but clearly doesn't get involved this time round.

It's the inverted-winger tactic we use. Means our crosses only come from full-backs. It's silly. Would love to see Brooks on the left and JRS on the right, just once at least.

That's true, we always seem to cut back even if we are trying to catch teams on the counter attack.

I seem to recall a significant number of crosses from Burrows over this season. The problem with playing JRS on the right is that he is poor on his right foot.

There must have been a dozen times at least against Cardiff where we got into a perfect crossing position only to slow it down, cut back and try to go through the middle. Plymouth and Oxford beat us because they realised they could just show us the touch line knowing we wouldn't go there. Must be really dispiriting if you're a striker.

We really do have a strange obsession with trying to play our way into the box using tedious training ground triangles. Ok, it’s brilliant when it works, but to be honest…It very rarely does.

That’s why I’d prefer to reserve judgement on Tom Cannon just yet. People seem to have already written him off, but Wilder must have seen a player in there somewhere…But I don’t see the point in having a range of different strikers…When the team can only play one way.

Inverted wingers work best when you play at speed and on the counter. The likes of Liverpool and Arsenal have done this well.
If you're not going to, or are able to do that then it makes a lot more sense to play more classic wingers against a team sitting in.

The best thing to say about Kozluk's crosses is that they weren't as bad a Gus Uhlenbeek's. He hit the back row of the stand behind the goal with unerring accuracy. And sometimes the back row of the touchline stand.....

Hamer's free kick against Coventry and Keiffer Moore's two goals at Cardiff are the only ones I can remember that went in from outside the box (memory is bad these days) has there been any others ?

I was at Grimsby, the night he actually scored.
Then he ran to the stand where he thought his family were in to celebrate. But he got that wrong too. It was full of Grimsby fans! Who weren't too happy.

Hamer against Preston (A), QPR (H), Derby (H), Plymouth (H)? I think the Plymouth one was outside the box (the volley).

As for Jack Lesters job, pretty sure he's still the Head of the Academy as well as being one of Wilders coaches (he was one of Hecky's coaches as well), I think Geary is the u23's manager.
