What happens now? Unless im missing something I don't see any mention of how much we are looking to spend and why we didnt spend any of it yesterday

Not on the wind up just trying to get peoples thoughts as it is a bit of a giddy mess on here today

Agreed.
Strange that it was the day after deadline day.
However lets see what happens with the loan window?

I just assumed the money was released in time to sign Baxter and Cuvelier, surely that wasn't from our own pockets?

While they are quality players the squad is still a ling way short from competing, in my opinion.

There is nothing strange about it at all. It makes perfect sense to me. Money was made available, hence the Baxter & Cuvelier signings. They didn't officially announce it so that we're not getting fleeced by clubs knowing we're minted.

You're in the market for a new house. You don't announce to the owners of the one you're looking at that you just sold yours for £1million.

Im sure the money for Baxter and Cuvellier came from our investor
We cant just go out and spend millions on players, we have to pay them and adhere to the FFP rules
I would expect movement inwards when the loan window opens

What he said. Had the identity of the new investor been made public Stoke may well have demanded a few extra hundred thousand for Cuvellier.

Spot On, DW came to United knowing that the brass farthing he did have was nailed to the ground and covered with a cowpat, if he had come into shedloads of money yesterday, he may have just blown a couple of £mill on some useless 35yo fart.

Leastways he can to look to the future and in January can spend wisely, and strengthen the squad where its needed after having seen how they perform in the next 3 months.

I didn't hear of any bids in for either Long or Maguire, but perhaps we were in a position to turn them down.

I say the same thing and accused to being a pig. Sad times.

I am interested in the ground/asset situation. By the press release that's out of reach. You do wonder therefore if this is a one way ticket, i.e. investing in a team that's worth diddly squat. In that case he has tremendous faith in 'our ability' to progress unless he really is happy to spend money irrespective.

What a shame the investment wasn't there in the Prem season. I still cringe when I think our back four might have been Walker, Jagielka, Cahill, Naughton. (Well it was, just not at the same time!)

Dont get me wrong im more excited by the 2 new signings than I have been anything sufc related for a long long time
Im sure they were both funded by our new man and im absolutely delighted that we mightnow be able to build a squad capable of promotion this season its just that I wanted to guage peoples opinions on it and the rest of the forum is a excitable mess of people moaning about not being a family club or making daft jokes about tea towels
So I guess im looking for any sort of in the know or expert analysis as to what we can realistically expect now after all other clubs have had middle eastern investors and not much has changed

Well let's just hope everyone's forgotten about it by January then...

...so boys and girls, about those Arab outfits everyone on here seems to be after...

I'd heard that DW II worked hard up until the deadline to get at least one of the Coventry strikers but, unfortunately, the Coventry owners are buggers to try to do business with.

Well Judgey, wealthy investor or not Weir now needs to get the team to 'gel'. We need a Southampton type performance (when they got promoted). Having 'loadsamoney' is all very well, but with a poor team what's the point.

Wouldn't have wanted Weir having a sudden transfer fund of millions of pounds on the last day of the window anyhow likelihood would have been he'd just be panic buying, least now he has until January to really assess the squad, see who fits the system and those who don't will be out of the door via either being transfer listed or contracts paid up and terminated, and now he has months to really prepare a new list of targets he'd like seen as surely we have the pick of the talent available in certainly league two and surely league one what with the money he'll have to spend.

lets be right, moneybags saudi has bought half the club for £1. supposedly a 9 month drag out yet we don't bother to invest anything other than the undisclosed amount we got for our most gifted player, who was so aware of the behind the scenes mega input he bailed for wolves?? he's probably bought half the hotel and business centre, after all they were built to provide funds for team strengthening... anybody with long memories will remember those promises....

I really do think some of you would rather the club go out of business than acknowledge that Kevin McCabe has done something right.

Would you prefer not to have this investment?

I personally am very great, and both surprised and delighted of the quality of player we have got in. However we didn't address the biggest and most glaring weakness in the squad, up front, and after tonight we've gone seven games this season without a single goal from a striker. The longer term may be looking rosier but the near future still looks pretty bloody rocky.

I'm not happy about taking Saudi money, I'm also in no way thankful for the work McCabe has supposedly done in the good name of Sheffield United. Look at two corners of the ground that were supposed to be in the good of the football club... they belong to him and so does the revenue. I could go on but i won't... he's done NOTHING for this club

You are an intelligent man. I know that. But you are allowing your deep-seated hatred of McCabe to cloud your thinking.

Personally, I'm delighted that KM has succeeded in bringing in a very wealthy business partner. Prince Abdulla is not a nation; neither is he a government.

I greatly admire Franz Beckenbauer and Lionel Messi. Perhaps I shouldn't?

As I've said elsewhere, we tried very hard. It will be addressed sooner rather than later. It's very early days.

I accept it's very early days in the season, hence no bleating about how many points Wolves and Peterborough have got! But it won't be very early days by January which is the next opportunity to properly fix it.

I don't like the word hate, I find it hard to ever equate my own personal feelings with the word... I do deeply mistrust the man though and have done for the best part of 15 years, from my own conversations with him, his complete speaking of balls on the radio, at fans forums, in the press etc. His total inability to see the right way to run a football club he claims to love and be a part of from birth (he was born on every street around S2 according to what day he claims it)... thats what I don't and will never like the bloke for. Buildings he's good at... look at tje Bramall lane corners, he built them, he now owns them, saving us all from the misery of financial failure - when both buildings were touted to be providing the revenue for players purchase/wages. That doesn't seem the least bit odd? We 'buy' into partnerships in Hungary and China... he builds the stadiums... any other benefit from those deals, the nurturing of Lowton and Naughton's loans out there increasing their development and saleability notwithstanding? The Academy was always supposed to be going to shit miracles, yet the few prospects who have shown good at a high level have been sold as fast as their name has been glued to the back of their shirts. Players like Beattie, right down to Williamson are let go because of their wages... who sanctioned them in the first place? etc etc etc If you can't see the bloke is a self interested plank by now then when will it sink in??

I'm unsure what the Beckenbaeur comment was supposed to mean. I have a fantastic autographed Bayern Munich postcard from 1974 of him if you want to buy it though? :p

No, but Guesty will make you an offer you can't refuse!

I don't think we need to be worrying about Wolves and Peterborough somehow. We could spend £30m on players and not have a team as good as theirs. Reaching January halfway up the league would be a decent achievement.

Well, no, but getting all "best thing that's ever happened to this great club"etc again now is a bit like leaping around with glee the first time your child manages to go to the toilet on their own for the first time. At age 14.

I've never wavered on KM mate. He's a genuine bloke. Like all successful businessmen who get involved in football (especially the club they support) the business brain turns to blancmange and allows the heart to take over. He has not made money out of SUFC. He never will. People who think he has are naive about the economics of running a football club. The truth (and it's a blindingly obvious truth, however much some would prefer not to hear it) is that the McCabe family have quite literally spent a fortune on maintaining our football club. Yesterday he sold half that responsibility, greedily lining his pockets with a whole pound.

He has made some major errors (I highlight one or two of them myself with some regularity) but always with the best interests of the club at heart. In the long and colourful history of SUFC chairmen (including, lest we forget, a time-served convict, an international fugitive who dare not set foot in the UK, an international fugitive who date not set foot in the UK and purported to sell the club to a penniless Iraqi drag queen], he is, amidst colourful competition, the best of a bad bunch.

No-one else has managed to bring Saudi money into UK football. KM did yesterday. It was undoubtedly a major day in the club's history. A sea change. It might just (we shall see) mark the beginnings of things we never thought possible.
