Seriki or Gilchrist

Seriki. I don’t think he’s shown himself to be any less of a defender yet.

Gilchrist is the better of the 2 at defending (especially his awareness and positioning) but Seriki is better going forward.

Gilchrist for me, especially with JRS playing RW as we don't want our right hand side to be too open and exposed, which it could be if we have both Seriki and JRS bombing down the right.

A tough question.

I think Gilchrist will start as he's a good defender.

But Seriki looked very good when he's come on. Hopefully he'll get tested against better wingers soon and we can see how good he is

Gilchrist for me.
His one on one defending is exceptional.
If we can score with him on we should be comfortable, if we need a goal or to get further up the pitch bring on Femi. It's the perfect problem to have

Seriki for me, too.

He's done well and gives us much more going forward. He's also come up with at least two or three brilliant last-ditch tackles defensively to get us out of the shit in recent weeks. Gilchrist has, in my opinion, gone off the boil a little bit since his strong early season form and I think he looks a slightly better defender at times because that's all we ever see him do. He offers nothing at all going forwards, he's a very average header of the ball and has average pace at best. I don't see how he makes a good Premier League player at the moment but he's got plenty of time to improve in that respect.

Sunderland have had a great season so far but I genuinely think we'll beat them comfortably tonight if we play anything like we can and retain possession a bit better.

I'm a big Seriki fan, he is going to be some player, and was superb against Oxford, but that left winger for them, the foreign sounding chap, skinned him and got a few excellent balls in, in the first half, I personally would play Seriki, but can also see why Wilder might go with the safe option

Gilchrist.

Think he’s a better 1v1 defender and he’s more of a stay at home right back with gives Burrows more licence to bomb forward and link to Hamer / all him to push inside. He steps into the 3 then and leaves us more solid.

Does occasionally leave JRS isolated against two though but I think it’s for the best tonight

Seriki is undoubtedly the better offensive outlet though

Big Ol decision for CW this evening

Seriki or Gilchrist

If he bottles it he plays Gilchrist if he has a pair of Balls he'll play the Mancunian CAFU

Such a naive comment. Why be brave taking risks when we’ve a great chance of winning taking no risks.

It reminds me of the Bogle vs Baldock threads. Most managers would want to start with a solid base and see how it goes.

Gilchrist is the better defender and will also be fresh. Also Sereki is a fantastic option to bring off the bench if we need to take risks chasing a goal.

Not too bothered who starts, they are both good enough. However I would expect Wilder to start with Gilchrist giving him 70 mins then bringing on Sereki for the last 20 minutes.

Seriki has shown he's not just about bombing forward and has actually been good at defending too. Gilchrist is a defender who loves defending but won't offer too much going forward. I don't mind which one starts and it's a great decision to be able to make, especially considering that when Bogle left, we didn't think we had any decent RB's on the books.

I'd be tempted to play Gilchrist at CB instead of Robbo. I think this evening definitely calls for a calm head.
