I really love watching David Brooks play and in an ideal world our owners would make enough funds available to make this unnecessary.

However, they probably won't and for me fantastic though he is, Brooks is a luxury in the Championship whereas Coutts was essential.

If we could get Coutts doppelgänger in January by selling Brooks, I would.

RWB will sort itself out soon hopefully but Coutts is the fulcrum of our team and we're not likely to see him again this season.

Would you do the same? and is there a Coutts doppelgänger? if there is, who is it?

Luke Murphy is a good player who would do well under Wilder in our system. Whether Leeds would sell as he is on a season long at Burton I don't know.

I am not agreeing with selling Brooks btw.

No thanks.

Wilder wouldn't buy a 10 million quid midfielder anyway.

Also as much as Coutts was important he wasn't responsible for everything, once we've got a RWB fit and we stop hitting the first man with our crosses we'll be fine.

We're on a bad run, it's coincidence.

Got to keep hold of him for me..He usually makes an impact off the bench;and we haven't really got anybody who can run with the ball or run past people like Brooks does, and he'll get better with more games.
He seems to be getting way to much stick for me..we can't expect him not to make the odd mistake or lose the ball occasionally...they are all guilty of that at times.

Who could we sign to replace Coutts, who we couldn't already, who wouldn't smash the wage structure whilst also adequately replacing Brooks and making any other necessary signings?

It's not straightforward.

Doesn't show much loyalty to Brooks does it. He's not a copy of Call or Duty you take to CEX when you're a bit skint, he's our player and he's good, if we can keep him we can build a team around him. We should want to keep him.

We'll have enough money to buy Wilder style players. He's not one to spunk moneh.

Selling Brooks is like selling your car because you've run out of petrol.

Alan Biggs in the Telegraph suggested selling in January and a 6 month lease back plus a possible leaseback next season too.

Would you sell under those circumstances?

Keep Brooks and give him an extended run in the side is my vote.

Yes,let's sell another of our young talents,it's worked wonderfully well for us in the past hasn't it?

When did lease replace loan to describe borrowing a player under contract at another club?

Personally, I'd just love to see us acting like a normal football club (again, after all these years in the wilderness?) & resisting offers, like others clubs do. We'll get hefty offers, that's for sure. Let's just say no, like most other clubs do to offers for players of theirs who've only played a handful of games.

It's been great seeing the new contracts given out to Brooks, Fleck & O'Connell. But they'll have cost, & will have eaten into the potential January budget.

But, in saying that, how much do we really need to be splashing out in January? Huddersfield only brought one in in January last season, &, at this point in the season, they were worse off than we are now.

Not that promotion (or even the play-offs) this season is the be all & end all IMO. Far better we keep on progressing in our superbly traditional (Burnley-like), fully committed, positive/attacking, modern-footballing way.

It's a fair comment about Huddersfield - but they had a master craftsman (Mooy) at that level who ran the centre midfield virtually single handed - we've just lost ours.

No because there's no guarantee that it will be reinvested back into the team..this chairman has form in that department

Fair point. Mooy's a superb footballer. But even with him, they'd undergone an 8 game spell from mid-October to early December where they only won one single game, during which they went five without a win & got battered 5-0 by Fulham.

Not downplaying Couttsy's loss at all. But Brooks, given a bit of time & patience & nurturing, is our Knockaert, our gamechanger.

And Lundstram has already shown (given similar time/patience/nurturing) that he'll be a quality replacement for Coutts IMO - he's improving every game, & he's got the attributes, including the most important of all: bravery, refusal to hide. What he needs more than anything is to be able to build the relationships with those around him, so he can become more instinctive.

Agreed, Lundstram is doing OK and may get better with time. He probably has a month and 6 (?)games to prove he can influence the team from CM.
For me he is in the Stearman camp of wait and see. In the end CW is the arbitrator here and like all of us, we await the JTW with interest of how much and how many. There might be a few surprises in who exits too.

Selling Brooks is like selling your car because you've run out of petrol.

It’s more like selling your weekend car that rarely gets an outing because your main vehicle that gets you to work and back has been written off by some uninsured, reckless wanker and you can only afford to replace it by selling the aforementioned non-essential luxury.

If we could sign anyone with the money, I’d be spending it on McDonald or the ginger kid that played holding midfield for Brentford against us at the start of the season.

Idiotic OP
No it's not. Is Brooks the finished article? Did he look like the 'new TC' on Saturday? Everyone is assuming that he will continue to improve and become a top player. What if he doesn't? What if he never gets much better than he is now? I've seen plenty of players with potential who never fulfill it and end up like JCR. What if we turned down £10m now and in two years he's going out on loan to Chesterfield because he still can't hold down a first team place?
Don't say it won't happen because neither you nor I have a crystal ball or are experienced enough in developing young professional footballers to know for sure.

No he hasn't. He hasn't taken a penny out of this club and the money that was used to pay existing costs prevented us from having to sell even more players. We've made a loss every year since we lost the POF against Burnley.

Brooks has signed a long contract. Any chancers that come sniffing in January should be told, politely, to go away. If they persist, then tell them impolitely to fuck off. Liverpool did that to Barcelona when they wanted Coutinho, who had signed a contract with Liverpool. Brooks has signed a contract with us, we should be building a team for the future that includes good young players, not flogging them off at the first chance we get.

Is it just me that thought his goal on Saturday was a bit flukey ? Not that I give two shits !

Defo meant as a cross to the back stick for Leo.

With the car analogy its a bit like having a new alpha romeo. Could be a great motor but is a bit unreliable and falls over when anything else comes near and goes absent when needed on the motorway sometimes and people wonder why no one buys them. Things that could be fixed with the right mindset to make it a ferrari but if not could end up being a lada like so many others so sometimes better to cash in and get a VW instead if the price is right (without the cheat box). All depends on if the mechanics can mature it into a reliable performance car.

the car analogy its a bit like Brooks is playing here wiith KIA drivers, hard working and practical , but could go to say Everton where they are BMW s , so all have cunts behind the wheel
