Self entitlement syndrome

Some total cretins at the back of the Kop today, gangway C. They performed a sponsored silence until the second half when we were actually 1-0 up and they piped up. They then started singing "Wilder, Wilder, sort it out". Taking all the circumstances and the context into account one of the worst things I've seen at the Lane. I felt like vomiting and fucking off home.

If Moore can learn to kill a ball though. His close control was dire today. Made some decent runs though and gave them some problems.
I know he splits opinions but for me we just hold much more of the ball when he's on the pitch, and you see the midfield are suddenly able to get up the pitch and start causing trouble for the opposition. Comes on, got a couple of shots away (weak attempts, but more than we'd been doing), wins a couple of free kicks. Yeah, he was sloppy but I think we're a better team with him in it.

I agree totally, he's also got more pace that he'd get credit for. I like him.

My big issue with Moore is he can get caught up in trying to buy fouls, and he doesn't seem great at it. There's loads of times I just want him to stay upright and fight for it.

I think there's a bit of entitlement running through the team at the minute. A few times today players stopped, waiting for a free kick or the ball to run out of play, instead of getting on with it.

He gives us an outball. What we are really missing at the moment. Relieve the pressure on the defence and allows our players to regroup/have a breather. Allows us to start playing in the opposition half, when he's playing well.

That is kind of what I was thinking today when he came on - One seemed very isolated, and I don't think he's a target man. The problem was that when Moore came on he became a turnover machine, that may be rust coming back from a knock to be fair but it is not as if he was playing well before he got injured either

My comment was about today specifically.

The other posters comment about his actual pace is a good point.

After the humiliation of last season it’s so bloody great to be sitting top of the league with clear water between us and the supposedly ‘Champions elect’ Leeds United. Their triumphant march to their destiny as the next media EPL darlings was somewhat challenged today with a 93’ og equaliser against the galacticos of Preston NE

So, those Blades fans who were ‘appalled’ by our performance today and who think we were ‘shit’ please do think back to last season and the self entitled EPL fans who abused and ridiculed us on a weekly basis for the whole miserable season. Plymouth were really good today, they pressed, they harried and they played with commitment and passion….and we still won. Don’t succumb to self entitlement syndrome. We are earning our bid for promotion with every hard earned point over every blade of grass and every scrapped out, time wasting, well managed victory.

Get a grip, enjoy, support and strap in for the ride. Not happy clappy stuff, just my thoughts as a fan who stood on the terraces of Hartlepool and Darlington and would have given my right arm to have been back in this position again!
These views aren’t exclusive of each other… we were appalling last season.. and that performance today wasn’t equally appalling, obviously, but it wasn’t great either regardless of the result, but was worrying, if we played like that against any of the current top 12 teams, 9/10 we would have lost… yes we got the result today.. but th frustration is that we haven’t been playing well for a number of games… yes we’re top NOW, but performances like this are worrying and we’ll be slipping down the league if we continue like this especially with some of the injuries.

We were definitely spoilt with the tactics of Wilder and Knill mk1 but Wilder and Knill mk2 know it’s a results business and we’re currently the best in the league at getting results.

My viewpoint at the moment is that most weeks we have a bit of a patchwork team and when we have the opportunity to add some bodies in Jan we should be much easier on the eye. I’d take scabby 1 nil wins all season over expansive losing football though, we need the assurance of another year of PL money and subsequent parachute payments.

We have to be careful not to take things for granted ! Amazing run of home results makes us feel entitled just like the Dirties! That was tough today and Wilder in his interview called it spot on.
Been a real tough 6 days and we have another 3 in 6 coming in January .We are toughing it out when needed with a goalie who reads the game so we'll! He spoke sensibly in his interview! No Billy big bollox with him.
We have to strengthen in the window as some of these young players will suffer burnout if we don't.The management know this so whoever is the owner in the window has to give it a go ! We are in a position no fan could have dreamt of in August !

Yesterday was not a good performance by any stretch. We were poor in possession. Didn’t press very well. Held on to it too long. Picked the wrong pass. Lacked creativity etc etc

BUT

Anyone with half a brain can understand why. 3rd game in a week. AGAIN. Back from a decent away trip to Millwall on Wednesday, home early hours Thursday morning. Game again Saturday.

We started with a midfield who hadn’t started together yet. Two players who at the start of the season were not intended to be first choice. One was injured and one was going out on loan. A kid leading the line on his own due to lack of match fit striker.

They’re out on their arse but managed to get the job done, 2-0 win. Maintains our incredible home record. 7 points in a week which matches Leeds total for the same period.

We’re top of the fucking league. Winning ugly is part of gaining promotion over 46 games. We’re winning games that others in the division draw / lose when they have an off day. Not us. We’re in the habit of winning and grinding them out.

I'm enjoying the season, but I didn't enjoy the performance yesterday. I showed my frustration at O Hare late on when he had chance to shoot and pissed about and got tackled. Very frustrating.

It's not entitlement, it's frustration, as we weren't entertaining enough yesterday and didn't gamble or play the percentages. Professional - yes, absolutely, Entertaining - no.

Most posters on here know what they're talking about, and make sensible, thoughtful comments.

There are a couple of bellends, and I've blocked most of them as I don't want to listen to the constant horseshit they come out with. Pompey was one of them.

Once we get to 50 points I'll be doing some forensics on here and calling out the cockwombles who said in the summer we would be in a relegation battle and heading to league one. That was NEVER going to happen, as the season so far has resolutely proved.

Wilder himself wasn't overly impressed with the performance either and reckons he should have rotated the team a bit more for this match.

Have only just seen the interview.
One reason I love having Wilder back is he's a straight shooter and calls it as the fans have seen it.

Re: the topic of the thread... I'm not sure why these debates need to happen.
It's a football forum, fans are entitled to discuss performances.
Everyone wants us to (1) win, (2) entertain. In that order. If either isn't happening, it's going to be a topic for discussion on an internet forum designed to discuss all things Sheffield United.

We were poor today. We had no control of the game, didn't carve out many opportunities, gave up some big ones and were a little bit fortunate to get the win.
Points on the board though and we move on.

Hopefully we can get a win away at Cardiff heading into a really tough run of 4 fixtures:
Burnley (h), WBA (H), Sunderland (a), Watford (a).
Wilder is managing a thin squad really well at the moment. Hoping to see Anel, Souza, Campbell, Seriki etc. back in action for those games.

Last season I felt like I understood what it was like to be a wednesday fan. This season I understand what it's like to be a City fan.

And I will absolutely throw my toys out when we concede at the Lane.

No trophy in 100 years.

6 PL seasons out of 33, with 4 relegations.

Record incompetence last season.

The idea that any Blades fan is entitled is horseshit.
Entitled is not horseshit when fans are expecting an easy game with a scoreline to match. Not all fans but a fair few!.

That’s not entitlement. That’s realism, when you look at the team’s records.

Anyway, when the team came out and you could see who was missing that must have dampened expectations.

What about when you look at the teams injury list ?

Yesterday was not a good performance from the team except in terms of resilience and result. I liken the situation at the present to Christian Horner turning up at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix to be told Max Verstappen isn’t available and the RedBull will be driven by Eric from accounts and by the way the Pirelli tyres didn’t arrive and Bill down at Costco has managed to get some Part worn Falkens to fit the car which has had to have a Vauxhall rear spoiler bolted on.

Not surprising then that it will be a struggle to get it to the chequered flag with so many components of success changed. Yet we did it.

I moaned all yesterday at the misplaced passes, the wrong options being taken etc etc. But in reality it’s frustration at knowing what we could do and are capable of.

I should vent my frustration at the “board” who failed to have the Pirelli’s delivered before the race.

As for Wilder, I moan enough at his decisions (Leeds capitulation) but fair play, yesterday he was spot on when trying to manage a depleted tiring squad with so many first team players out. He’s fashioned a squad with incredible mental resilience to get the job done no matter what.

Pulling wins out of terrible performances is how you win leagues.

3 games in a week, to end on that one with our current injuries is a good place to be.

That level of performance can be clearly put down to injuries and tired legs.

Big week of recovery ready for the festive season.

Had the feel of an early round cup match yesterday.

Poor standard of opposition (they played well but lacked quality), patched up team coming through 3 games in a week, supporters expecting a routine victory, as did the players by the looks of things.

No need for the hand-wringing or root and branch enquiry. Perhaps you’d raise an eyebrow if the manager came out and said it was a fantastic performance but he didn’t so take the point and move on.

As a wise man once said;

“We want your fucking rest, your fucking food, Dennis don’t we?”

Think it's all about context, which is almost impossible to convey on a forum.

Think it's fair to be honest and be critical. I've been to every home match and yesterday was our worse home performance of the season, that's just being honest. However I'm the type that if we play really well but lose....I'll give credit for a good but unlucky performance.

A few around me on the Kop were saying at half time, we reckon Wilder will lay in to em smashing a few tea cups
but surprising we didn't up the levels in the 2nd half and it was obviously a message from Wilder when he made mass substitutions on 52 minutes.

We came out of the match, obviously happy but inside we knew that was really poor, the midfielder of Davies/Peck didn't work and One looked lost up front. JRS look like Marcus Rashford on a bad day, totally disinterested. The saving grace (yet again) was our superb defence and goalie. Also thought the substitutions when Shackleton, McCallum and Moore came on, helped steady the ship.

I expected Wilder to quite critical in his post match interview however think he explained it really well.

He didn't just blamed the fixture congestion (every team can complain about that)
but he's noticed how our opponents (yet again) had an extra days rest before playing up, giving them an advantage.
We payed Millwall away on Wednesday night where as Plymouth played their match at home on a Tuesday.

He said some of our players were out on their feet and desperately needed a rest.
He also gave credit to Plymouth (which was nice), also he stated the reality that teams can't play well all the time but he was impressed that the players showed character to find a way to win and yet another clean sheet. So there were mitigating circumstances for being poor.

People saying we had tired legs yesterday after playing 3 games in a week, fair enough unlike some I'm no expert but I was wondering if any other Championship teams have just played 3 games as well and wondered if they were tired as well, if so we are still competing on a level playing field, aren't we?
Have the Plymouth team played 3 as well?
Or is it a good sounding excuse.
