Season ticket boycott

can't see why everyone is having a go at lenners, he is merely pointing out the obvious.. if we go down and they put the season tickets up (not that i buy them anyway) then the club is stretching everyone's loyalty to the limit (read: taking the piss)

Well surely that is quite an obvious statement. Lenners is having a pop at the club doing this, when they haven't. That is why people are questioning him.

If he posted this after it had been announced then he might have a point.

>Lenners is having a pop at the club doing this, when they haven't.
but they will.. we all know it.. oh.. isn't that allowed now?

But if they don't, will you or Lenners be the first to hold your hands up and say you were wrong?

why should i say i'm wrong.. i haven't posted anything.. i was merely saying lenners could be right

So "they will, we all know it" wasn't you saying they were going to raise ST prices? :)

THEY WILL RAISE ST PRICES.. i'll bet you a pint in the golden lion :D (i don't drink btw so mine's a coke)
evidence based purely on the boards previous incompetence in these matters.. how about that :D

i hadn't realised actually that i had agreed with lenners.. sorry.. i did it subconciously

Ok just to tie you down here.

You are saying that they will raise renewal ST prices for next season by the £50 that Lenners is grumbling about?

Just a yes will suffice.

yeah why not if it makes you feel better.. and if i am wrong i'll say .. i was wrong and that will be it..
frankly i'm not arsed as i don't buy an ST anymore because you can't get them for the SW corner so i trek down there every fortnight and buy one
no need to get so serious bob.. it was a friendly bet with linz which was meant as a bit of fun that's all.. perhaps people don't get my sense of humour on here

You're on :)

I can stand to the price of a pint of coke should I be wrong and I'm woman enough to admit when I am.

Jeez, people are really suggesting that it's going to be some kind of great, imaginative approach to selling season tickets if we keep renewal prices the same but actually increase them otherwise, which would almost certainly mean increased match day prices?
Ferkin' hilarious.

heh... you're a good sport linz..:) actually i nearly showed up last week but due to incompetence on my part (arguing with ebay) i was late and managed to even miss the kick off .. and we still didn't win

---------- Post added at 02:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:26 PM ----------

as a gesture of goodwill they should at least keep them the same.. i don't trust the board to be that imaginative that's all.. that is purely what i'm going on

Erm... nope.

Who's said that?

Nothing too serious in my post either, precious.

I just wanted you to be clear on what you think will happen tis all and I'm now confident that you will be proven quite wrong, quite shortly.

For the record I believe I took the no investment banter with Raul in good grace at Christmas.

P.S. nice shufflin' Len. :D I thought you'd lost your touch. You've gone from ranting about renewals being £50 more expensive to ranting even if they are kept the same. I get the feeling you are going to be ranting regardless.

Sorry to all I offended last night

Chemicals messing with my suede!!!

Parity is restored, with a bit of luck.

Lenners, calm down fella. Lets see what comes out on Fri, if they go up, tackle it then. If it stays the same, I can understand that but if it was a perfect world they should actually go down after this "Season of Doom"

You did indeed, and am watching you very closely for future revenue-generating opportunities Robert.;)

well i hope so.. actually i can't lose on this.. if i win i get gloating rights and if i lose everyone saves 50 quid :D

But you have to buy a pint :D

What exactly would there be to gloat about?

Erm... nope.

Who's said that?

The point I am making is that we discussed this topic at length over the last couple of months and I very much doubt there will be any real imagination in what they come out with this week.
As said before, I'm happy to look a fool when they announce all manner of incentives, clever marketing, price reductions and the like.

Personally I think season tickets will remain the same price. Cannot see them going down in price even if we do.
I will be renewing all the same.

But surely having a go when they've shown no real imagination will be much more sensible than doing so because you think that they wont. You must be in dreamland Len with so much to go at - so why the need to actually dream stuff up...:D....?

Like I said Alco, more than happy to look foolish when the club releases the details.
I'd have thought the real lesson we've learnt as fans recently is not to wait until the club fucks everything up.
Perhaps those who wait are those living in dreamland.
But we shall see.

Actually, I think you make a good point here. I've recently realised the stupidity of publicising our determination to by season tickets no matter what, something I've previously been guilty of.

Let's hope someone's listening, eh?

In the interests of board harmony I tell you what I'll start a rumour right here and now that they are going up £200 quid and £500 quid for kids.

I've just quadrupled your savings, surely we can all be friends now. :)

But I don't think anyone's said that they're going to reduce them :)

I really do think the ST sales come deadline day will be the barometer of the way supporters feel more than anything and without any form of organised protest, both you and I know there is going to be a dramatic reduction. The best marketing they could've had was a successful season and they missed the boat with that one.

With my personal circumstances (looking for a house, getting married), if I had to find ~£400 out of nowhere, I'd be questioning whether or not I could justify the expense. I'm quite on top of banking stuff though so I've got a regular saver taking £35 out of my wages every month so I know the money is there. Bearing that in mind, I'd hope there had been some imagination with regards to an extension of the direct debit scheme which we mooted on here... both in the thread of things to take to the BIFF meeting and in the ST ideas thread.

All people have said is that having a go at the club for increasing them by £50, when it's yet to be confirmed if they have, is a little premature when there's a lot of other things going tits up. And to expect the club to surprise you with greatness is a little naive :)

Linz, did we not have debates on here about innovative ideas regarding season tickets?
Did we not have lots of ideas?
Did we not suggest this was part of Batho's role?
Your approach of now wishing to denigrate anyone who suggests we're unlikely to get anything imaginative over season tickets on the grounds that 'I don't think anyone's said that they're going to reduce them' is exactly why I wondered whether the club had had a quiet word with the administrators of this board.
It's like the unhappiness and the debate and the suggestions surrounding the role of Batho never happened.
All now reduced to the club's never said they're going to reduce them. And 'to expect the club to surprise you with greatness is a little naive', with a smiley added.
It's a pretty frank admission we seem to be wasting our time, Batho's pointless and so on.
Something you and others got real uppity about when it was suggested previously.

FWIW I think the choice for the club is stark. ST's for all (bargain basement cant-be-refused prices) or ST's for the die-hards (prices up to compensate for numbers down)

I think the latter will be the approach as with the best will in the world there's no way they can sell 20000 at whatever rate they come up with for League 1 football combined with the general malaise and attitudes many have towards the club in general.

I've asked myself many times "what will make me renew" and tbh can't come up with anything thats achievable. If I'm anyway representative of the NRS from last year then the club would be better off concentrating on the (10,000?) who will renew come what may. They are determined to show their loyalty (and I'm making no judgement on this btw) so why not play on it a little? All in this together/down to the proper fans now/you are the true Blades etc etc slant on it and you might get the extra £50 or so as people respond to the rallying call.

The rest? Well, they'll come back if the team does well. Same as every other club.

Raul whilst some may come back if the team does well - I think the team would have to got promoted back to the Prem before the vast majority of those lost will come back. And let's not kid ourselves that former ST holders will pay on a match by match basis if we are in and around the play offs, the majority will be out of the habit and they won't pay £22 to £35 per game it doesn't happen.

This idea that it somehow bad economics to reduce prices and use some imagination is ludicrous to me.

The club has a choice to take £149 or at most £199 off a fan in the form of a ST or to take nothing off them - or maybe a few tenners for the special offers.

Having possibly less than 10,000 ST holders means a smaller and less attractive club in all ways. Unless they are paying vastly more for their STs and all spending loads more in the club shop etc then you end up with less revenue than if you had 15,000 or 20,000 ST holders who bought their STs for far less.

Losing between 7,000 and 10,000 supporters/customers in a year - that's getting on half of our support - is unforgiveable, it's shocking.

In a 'normal' company where shareholders have a say I suspect heads would roll at the AGM.

Financially it is devastating in the medium to long term. We did not just lose 5,000 ST holders x £149 or £299 or whatever last year but we have lost 5,000 x that amount x maybe 2 years, 5 years or 10 years.

It's madness and I hope we are not about to make exactly the same mistake again without even trying to give some different approaches a go.

I understand the point that we are at a low ebb and attracting people back is hard but that is where the idea/need for some truly imaginative ideas came in.

Now is obviously not the time to be selling STs with an April deadline or whatever that would be stupid.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with SWFC either this season or next if they look like going up.
Earlier this season, their crowds weren't particularly good even though they were top or near the top of the league.
Expecting fans to come back flies in the face of the reality that there are many more options for leisure time now and people simply get out of the habit.
