Thanks Scooter! My point being - if we are trying to bring in an established championship players, our current wage structure will not allow for it. Why would Hogan want to leave Villa for 20k/w haircut?
Think the point is, do we know, as fact, any of the following;

- What is SUFCs wage structure
- What Scott Hogan's current salary package is
- What any clubs wage structure is
- What any players current salary package is

You know that 12million doesn't have to just be spent on buying the player, it can go in wages too.

An extra £10,000 per week would cost us about £1.5m over a 3 year contract.

No

Not sure what the solution is re the wage situation. We can't afford big earners who would no doubt improve us and players who will come for lower wages won't improve us! Hence we're going for loan deals with clubs who will subsidise part of their players wage demands or we're looking at young PL players on loan who won't be on big money yet such as Henderson - I guess. As others have said we may well need to look abroad for greater value.

There's still the odd gem in League One but they're from Peterborough and he charges top whack for their players.

All these strikers at clubs that have had parachute payments or at prem clubs are all on wages we can't afford

Occasionally we sign a player who takes a drop in salary because he wants to play for the club, or he wants first team football

Unfortunately, those players are few and far between and if they are available, they tend to have a choice of clubs to go to

Unless we are prepared to increase our wage bill, we will always struggle to make the step up

That sums up where we're are really. There are players we can attract that improve on what we have that we can afford but they may take time to develop to become that better player and in that respect they're not currently better than what we have if that makes sense! Lundstram and Lee Evans are examples here, I'm convinced if we give them game time they'll become key players but right now Fleck and Coutts are better so there is a dilemma there.

The only players we know are likely to be better than we have are the bigger names such as Grabban, Hogan and Hugill etc. But these guys all played lower leagues and we can spot thwm before they become big names is the key but again when they arrive they'll not be the finished article. In the meantime the loan system is a good way to get quality that we can't afford but its still likely top be young lads that at the end of the season go back to their parent clubs so they need to learn quick! The simple solution is do we need a Russian billionaire who can break FFP and get us promoted like what Bournemouth! I am joking there, I'd rather the way we're doing it to be honest.

One rr two (literally one or two) saying that there is interest in Hogan in Twitter such as the quote below. Guess its more likely than Grabban anyway!

Just heard a few rumours of Scott Hogan to Sheffield United. Please, please, please, please let this happen. Tries hard but at the end of the day has been awful in the Villa shirt. Plus that gives RHM an easy route to the first team. #avfc #sufc

I go on Newsnow most mornings, 90% of it is shit but Hogan seems to be cropping up still more than most.
He got 21 goals I think in something like 36 goals for Brentford, hence his silly money move. If he's hungry has the right attitude and is willing to drop his wages a bit I think he's a winner!

One thing we need up top that there was a distinct lack of last season was movement and pace. We seem very static whilst the ball is played Spain style from one wing to the other and back.

Why are people complaining about the wage structure??

We sold Brooks not because of wages because he wanted to go and play in the premiership.

We offer new contracts to players and they get signed with minimal fuss. Let’s wait and see.

Not really, it all comes from the same report. It's a report of reports.

As I said on the OP, I do wonder if villa did get promoted, would it have made this deal easier. Yes they wouldn't have financial worries, but they would be buying a striker or 2. Right now, him and kodjia are there 2 main strikers, with a couple of younger ones.

How has this just happened??
Surely this should be been happening for a month already??

I thought it would have to be a loan deal, if anything.

This surely means we're trying to sign Gallagher permanently.

Two expensive striker loans isn't sensible or viable.

I think this potentially a goer for a loan. Villa subsadise wages, we don’t take the risk on a player who’s come back from a serious injury. He scores goals for us, takes us up or interests other clubs who may match his obscene wages or he could be another James Wilson or Ched in his first season and we haven’t wasted much.

Would love to sign Hogan on loan or even better as a permenent signing. However just cant see this one happening

How do much money you think we've saved with Blackman, Hussey, Reed, Thomas, Heneghan, Hanson, Donaldson and Wilson leaving? £35 grand a week? Its probably close to Hogan's wage. Maybe we could afford him?

Edit: Obviously we've signed Henderson, which cancels out Blackman's wage contribution.
