I hope he signs, if only for all the Hulk Hogan references!

If he signs and we dont come out to Real American against Swansea, then I’m snapping my season card.

80th minute- Wilder about to make his 3rd substitute. Out steps Scott Hogan. Andy Giddings goes mad “Its HOGAN!!!”. Keith Edwards- “But who’s side is he on????”.

Had hoped the Halifax link might have put CW in an advantageous position, however Wilder left in 2008, the Hogan brothers didn't join until 2010. As you were.

In the Villa home game last year he just fouled, constantly, all the time. As soon as the ref called him on it he was ineffective. Probably a tactic to see how far the ref could be pushed.

Looked strong and mobile, decent in the air. No way we can afford what Villa want. I'd pay no more than £3.5m with a load of promotion/goal clauses to a potential final deal of £6m

I'm not worried about the transfer fee, but the wages (unless Hogan takes a drop) will be well beyond our affordability.

We're very much at a stick or twist crossroads.

If Hogan comes, or anyone else for that matter, you can be confident that Wilder will only sign them if they fit into the type of player Wilder wants which is a point to prove, hungry and willing to play for a sensible wage which might mean a drop down in wages. If they don't come then the wages might mean too much to them to drop and whilst I get that I don't want us to blow the wage structure on new arrivals and then reffect the team harmony.

Hogan obviously isn't worth £35k/week and will never get paid anything like that again. Therefore, no matter what the transfer fee, his availability and willingness to move will hinge on what Villa are prepared to do with the remainder of his current contract in terms of settlement - i.e. how much are they willing (& able) to pay to get him him off their books.

As a player I like him - he's a handful and knows where the net is (I'm sure he would have converted more of those chances that came Donaldson's way last season). I still worry about the lack of pace in the side though especially with Brooks gone. A second striker would certainly need to be more mobile than any current striker at the club.

Booker/Mouth agreed and that is why he's very unlikely to come. He'll never earn 35k a week again so he's not going to give that up in a hurry and Villa aren't going to pay half of his salary otherwise they may as well keep him.

You do realise Hogan is very very quick!

Oh go on then, I'll join in...

Wilder: So Hogan, welcome to BDTBL. are you happy to be a blade?

Hogan: WHATCHA GONNA DOOOOO BROTHER, WHEN THE 24" PYTHONS AND HULKAMANIA RUN WILD ON YOU!?

*hits Knill with a steel chair and leg drops him through a table*

Knill: Oh holy hell! I'm in agony! Even my hair hurts!

Hogan: BLOOD IS THICKER THAN NEW BLOOD DUDE!

*walks off into sunset to go make a sex video with his best friend's wife*

Wilder: Bollocks, I bought the wrong one...

Hogan would be a brilliant signing. If we could get him & villa financial situation could help us. But it would be 5m+

If the other thread about Petre the Giant is true we'd have a great tag team up front!

If wages continue to be a problem, we will have to seriously consider looking abroad of talent (if we aren't already).

There seems to be only a small pool of forwards available in England that we may be able to afford transfer fee & wage wise that could be an improvement on our exisiting forwards. And if reports are true, those we are looking at, we are struggling to get the deals done (Gallagher, Hogan)

Wilder: Hogan,I'd like you to meet our newest signing. You probably know him already but seeing as he'll be your strike partner it'll be important you get along. Crouch, come say hi!

Crouch: Alright mate, I'm Pe...

Hogan: LEMME TELL YOU SOMETHING BROTHER! WHEN I GETCHA AT WRESTLEMANIA THE GIANTS GONNA HIT THE GROUND AND FEEL THE WRATH OF THE HULKSTER!

Wilder: Fuck sake. Hogan, get off him! Knill, help me get Crouch out of this headlock.

*camera pans to a terrified Knill in a full body cast shaking his head*

We need to up our wage ceiling or look abroad.

Because as we are we're wandering around in no man's land.

I think we're kidding ourselves with Hogan. I just don't see how it's viable. Are Villa really going to give him away for less than half what they paid for him and pay about 20k p/w of his remaining 35k p/w contract? They'd be stupid or very desperate to do that.

If Bruce was a good manager he'd just keep him and actually get the best out of him.

I recall a post a week or so ago from a member of this forum saying both Hogan & Egan were our top targets this summer, so to me if this is it be true, surely we'd have done some groundwork and gathered some intel from those behind the scenes on whether he (Hogan) would be willing to take some sort of wage cut or bonus incentive to come here or if Villa would be willing to subsidize his wage to get him off their books.

Failing that I think one player we should be looking at if we aren't already who could improve our forward options if not right away certainly in time is Adam Armstrong. I think you may have mentioned him before Ricky, he is rumoured to be on a wage of around £15k which surely we can afford & after a quick google search on his current status, this week he will find out if he's going to be in Newcastle's plans this season but I think we know what the answer to that will be. Loan or perm would be fine surely??

I'd like Armstrong on a permanent deal in addition to a main striker. Like, yawn....... Gallagher.

No reason we couldn't pay the fees for both of them. We need to spend the Brooks money on others who'll be assets, and Armstrong is one who would be. He'd be a perfect type to buy.

Fudman has tweeted indicating we'll spend the Brooks money and could afford Gallagher's fee, but the snag with that and other deals would be wages.

Re: Hogan - if we've made approaches then some ground work must have been done in regards to what his and Villas expectations are. Cant see Wilder going down blind alleys at this point.

Think we need to get clever with wages - big bonus' or performance related etc etc.

Hogan to us won't happen. 35k p/w he's currently on at Villa. There's no chance in a player dropping his wage from 35k to around 10k p/w, just not realistic. Wilder would not go out of our wage structure and put someone on a wage twice or three times as much as our current players are on because that's not how he works and it causes all sorts of problems with other players asking for a pay rise etc. I assume around 15k p/w is about the max we would pay a player at the moment so if the Hogan interest is true we are looking in a market that far from a level playing field for us. Wilder mentioned in one of his interviews recently that our targets may not be "the obvious ones" which suggests we aren't going for the big name players who everyone wants and I wouldn't be surprised if we do something unusual to us by bringing in a player from abroad.

Thanks Scooter! My point being - if we are trying to bring in an established championship players, our current wage structure will not allow for it. Why would Hogan want to leave Villa for 20k/w haircut?
