We can’t defend corners to save our life so why not put men on the post just to actually try and do something about it? We’d have saved about 4 or 5 goals from memory in doing so. What the actual fuck are we doing on the training ground?

We don't attack corners well at both ends of the pitch.

We gifted them all 3 goals they won’t get an easier 3 points this season

I'm half expecting yet another tweet from the opposition's official social media account trolling us with something along the lines of "Christmas came early tonight... Easy 3-0 win for the Hammers".

We are laughing and thinking about next year in the Champ, thinking we'll do very well...…………………...but!

Fucks me right off too, Wizz
Maguire wouldn’t have scored if we had a man on the post.
I understand from debates on Twitter that analysts believe there is no correlation between a man on the post and conceding from corners. The view is that they are better deployed in a marking role. I can’t see it because if you don’t win the initial header then your exposed and the player that would be on the post isn’t likely to be one marking one of the danger men from a corner / set piece.

Aston Villa was another one we conceded at a set piece. I’m sure there have been more.

Probably for the same reasons that nobody puts two men on the posts anymore.

Yes, the team taking the corner usually leave 2 men back plus one taking the corner so in theory we have 3 players doing fuck all anyway.

Why’s that then clever clogs?

If you defend corners successfully then you don’t need men on the posts but we don’t and still continue to concede goals from them, it’s becoming a bit embarrassing now to be honest.

Never a 3 0 game, as poor as we were if we put our chances away we get something out of the game.
If we’d have put our chances away they’d just score another from another sloppy bit of play by us.

We had our best defender of set pieces waiting to come on today for 5 minutes. They get a corner and we still dont bring him on. 2nd goal scored. Bizarre thinking from the manager

It’s not just us. The number of times I watch games where a teams got no one on the posts and the ball sneaks in. A player on the post could easily clear it. It’s just the new way I suppose, each team to their own.

Wasn't trying to sound clever I don't know myself. I'd guess it's to avoid playing attackers onside, but either way all top managers have decided it's flawed for a while now.

West Ham have scored the most corners this season, it was a good ball in, Ampadu didn't have the strength to stop Diop.

No probs, sorry if i sounded like a bit of a twat, it just came across that way. I have noticed a lot of teams don’t do it now or only have one man on one post but we struggle to defend any set pieces, we might aswell at least try something to stop this happening and as easy as this sounds, having men on both posts would’ve stopped quite a few goals this season.

I didn't think it was a particularly awful performance for the most part. However it was very Norwichy in that we gave away very soft goals and fluffed our best chances. This has been the problem all season and the same culprits keep getting a shirt. We are where we are for a reason. Poor recruitment has lead to a lack of options whereby the likes of Norwood, lundstram Stevens and Ramsdale have little challenge for their place.

The same issues and mistakes have dogged us all season so the coaching has to take some criticism

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome is the definition of madness.

But our system/shape etc. is not the reason why we keep getting the same shit most weeks according the gaffer 🤷‍♂️

We had this debate when it last happened. What gets me is that we can all see it but nothing changes - their coaching staff must cream themselves when they get a set play, they only need to win one header and are almost guaranteed to score.

We also need to coach Ampadu on heading generally and marking at corners.

I agree with this. I'm sure those with Analytics backgrounds can share that statistically you are better with more markers.

But like you I'd argue that any solution has to fit your club. At the moment I'm not overly confident we'll win the headers so narrowing the goal at least prevents the absolute gimme a fullback would have had tonight. Teams have been putting fullback on the posts for years. It doesn't all of a sudden become without merit.

Thing that killed me about the second goal, it was a mile away from the dee. Pure, unadulterated cheating by the twat who took it. Not just tonight either, most games. Var via, the clueless clowns who operate it, forensically look at every goal scored, yet cant see what’s in front of it’s nose. Embarrassing

Shouldnt do it but does 2 inches make that much difference, more important to learn the likes of Ampadu how to mark his man.

Frankly.to compare them is an insult to Schoolboys (or Schoolgirls for that matter)
