We haven’t got the resources to pay £20m for players for them not to bed in straight away and make a difference. At that money they have to be stand outs from the get go in my opinion.

Indeed - and for me too ,this is what most fans are concerned about.

Probably not a good idea to be spending £20mil on 21 year old lads from Belgium then eh lads?

Every single signing in the Premier League is a risk. The only way you're almost guaranteed a signing is going to work straight away and bed in immediately is by signing established premier league players. And established PL players that you seem to want, either cost more than £20mil, or would break our wage structure, or both.

Time to get real.

Wont this season prove we can spend £20m and let the player bed in over a period of time though?

Berge proves this surly - we are going to stay up, Berge will have bedded in and be in a good position at the start of next season.

Yes you could be right - it's all new territory for us in buying expensive players.

Some of our fans are simply expressing an opinion of how long do we wait for consistent 8 out of 10 performances from a £20m player(s) - players that should, in theory, make a difference to our existing less that £1m tier 2 and tier 3 players.

I believe the Prince mentioned quality players next season - perhaps 2 from memory - do we wait 6/9/12 months for 2 more quality players to bed in if that's another £40/50m?

I don't think it's unfair of them to ask these sorts of questions, but their opinion is being closed down and disparaged.

Arsenal spent £70m(?) on Pepe, what 6 months ago, and yesterday Arteta said he was finally 'clicking'.

Exactly.

I'm sure some smart arse will come up with an example of a Prem player who went for less than 10mil this season and has done well, so as for the cheaper established Prem players, they are on circa £50k plus even at the likes of Burnley. Our best players aren't on that.

Yes & no. Yes, when it’s vindictive & ill informed, but not when it’s justified.

Our margins as a team between success and failure are paper thin, we have to have our best 11 out every game & they have to be on it.

We have a finite budget and have to punch above it. Spending all of it on players, whether it is Berge, McB or Mousse that hopefully will improve next season or the season after, is a risk.
Constructive criticism I agree 100% with
But some of our fans need a scape goat to justify having a whinge ( that’s not a dig at you ) I’d give the lad more than 6 games to settle in
Because let’s be reight when Sir Chris took over and put Cootsie and freeman on the transfer list not many complained about that but the players knuckled down , and became fans favorites after a couple of months

He clearly feels comfortable in a defensive role. As a semi attacking player it isn’t happening but I’m sensing a plan that sees a new spine, replacing Norwood and Didzy. I hope to see signings in those areas.
But we've just given Norwood & Didzy new contracts ?

I’m not saying it’s going to happen next season but Didz is getting on and Norwood can play higher up the pitch. Apart from that CW consistently says that SB will play in front of defence eventually and he will be thinking that he has to build a squad. At the moment we’re seriously lacking depth.

If we play 2 deep MF , the normal "CW Balance" would suggest 1RFoot & 1 LFoot. I think both Ollie & Sander are RFoot

As a regular balance reminderer, I would usually agree, but this might be an area where there’s more flexibility. The importance of this was always more for how, say, the triangle of lefties and righties work the overloads to get a good position to create on their strongest foot. Those triangles have evolved as the system has – Norwood was in the right-hand one last season but is in neither this season, Duffy would regularly get involved with both sides last year whereas now if that sort of “Wilder rhombus” happens it’s one of the strikers (McGoldrick) that will be the one to get involved.

So long as the core crossing trips are balanced, I think there’s flexibility. We don’t insist on that left/right balance for the strikers – I think a change where neither of the deep-lying midfielders are involved in the wide areas of the pitch would mean two righties could take the roles.

Must be the only Blade who did not see the game yesterday, but are people really writing Berge off after half a dozen games?

You take a new job in a competitors new office in Belgium. You have to adapt to a new home, pick up a new culture, work out your new colleagues on a personal and professional basis, and on top of all that then get locked down almost as soon as you land in a new country. BTW you are in your early 20s when doing all this. You have to learn the new systems and ways of working of your new office, and are expected to settle instantly.

Do you think after 6 days at the "office" you would be performing at full tilt?

He may turn out to be a crap buy, or on the other side it could turn out to be one of our best buys ever, however, cannot believe people are judging the signing after a handful of games in trying circumstances.

Cast aside the "he cost 20M so should be great each and every game" thought process as the lad did not set the fee, and the fee is almost irrelevant.

I went and lived in Russia, and if you think you land and adapt immediately you are kidding yourself.....just because a footballer might get paid 30k a week or whatever doesn't make him immune to all the issues above.

The doom and gloom of some on here makes my pi55 fizz! )
Just leaving this here......

Still early days ..so let’s see what next season brings ...but all the clowns who said we will treble our money after 2 years ..( you know who you are ! ) ..will be eating humble pie for a Long long time ....

The lad tries hard ..and we need a full pre season with the squad ..then we can judge maybe January time ..but what I can confirm is we don’t don’t have a £60 million player ..as some over reacting clowns thought when we bought him ...

for lost of reasons ...and mainly financial..I hope he performs well in bigger games..so we don’t lose money..hopefully make a few quid ..as just can’t see in out current systen he’s going to be a major star ..just can’t see it ...yet ..

As for Mcburnout .....I would take a £5 mill loss now to move ..maybe a bit more ...not all signings work out ...and he ain’t going work out for us ..FACT
