Sander Berge

He seemed to be playing as "himself" today. He's taken a while to settle, and I think up to now he's tried to be very safe and almost scared to do what he does in case it doesn't come off (which I'd put down to pressure on expectation on his young shoulders).

Today he was much more confident and had the self belief that had been lacking. Some lovely little touches and movement of the ball in to space, while looking relaxed and casual. He also showed he is faster than a lot of players as opposed to quicker. He might not beat players over a couple of metres but his long legs can definitely win the sprints a la Usain Bolt.

Today will have done him the world of good and might even give Norwood a kick up the arse too

Nail on the head, step up in quality of league sometimes makes players play it safe and Ignore their natural instincts

Today the berge I have seen occasionally over the last couple of seasons started to emerge

Must just be me that looks at the quality of delivery from Norwood when he gets in the wider positions on the right, and from free kicks out there as well, that thinks he‘d do well in that position if he and berge swapped over.
Literally thought that after seeing his delivery on the ground that curved into the box from that free kick.

Norwood lacks the speed and physicality for the CDM but had the finishing for RCM. Berge has the hold up play, physicality and passing for the CDM. Think they will swap, maybe we might try it if Lunny is out.

wonder what Olly thinks to that from CW?

Maybe they're tweaking the formation for next season? 2 CDMs, 1 striker, Fleck and Lunny being told to shoot more.

With a reliable striker that could be very good for us.

We'd be able to to to a flat 3 and a 10 or 3 and 2 up top with one sub too.

Once again, I think the next evolution for our formation is to a more attacking three as we did in the Championship. Norwood, Fleck and Sander competing for the 2 gives us better depth and options in those positions while supporting our forwards by looking to create more.

He looked better today. Not quite the player I've seen on the YouTube videos but getting there. He doesn't deserve any stick. I think he gets it... understands the differences in leagues and understands that it might take a bit of time.

I'm hoping next season he be on it and having a bigger presence in centre midfield might let us attack more

A lot of players really struggle with the pace of the Prem when they arrive from abroad - and the Berge clearly has although today he seemed quicker to react and stronger on the ball...............if nothing else comes out of these games, it might well help him to get up to speed before the start of next season.

Wilder pronounced his first name as 'Zander' so when we all started calling him 'Sander Berg' we really were well off the mark.

I don't remember a single attempt at a forward run/dribble and 90% of his passing was 5 yards backwards. Today it felt like he took responsibility for at least trying to make things happen
I mean, that's just factually wrong

😂😂😂😂

He was a dynamic forward presence. Driving the game forward with searching passes and super, focused running with the ball was he?

No. He was lackadaisical in possession, weak in the tackle and looked genuinely lost. He didn't really provide any positive contributions beyond a few sharp, short passes.

Today was hugely encouraging, the previous approximately 400 minutes he'd played we much less so

His attitude was spot on today too.

He was leading us and taking risks by closing Arsenal down at the top of the field. He covers ground over long distances quite quickly, it's in tight spaces where he looks a little immobile - this is what he needs to work on in pre-season, but it also suggests he needs to be playing deep with space in front of him.

There is definitely a very good player in there that we can work with. And lads, he's 21.

It's been so disappointing to see our fans writing him off this early into his career.

Berge was a lot better today and may be just may be , shows what he can do , i am a bit more encouraged by his performance today , i have had a go at him thinking it was a bad signing , but well done today lad , keep it going , might be promising for next season 🤞

Made the most dribbles and 2nd most forwards passes for us whilst on the pitch

Wilder said in his post match that he’ll move to the deep midfield role as time goes on. Obviously the long term replacement for Norwood.

Played well today.

Or the plan is to play with two deep midfielders? Norwood has only just signed a new deal.

So have Sharp and McGoldrick and they aren’t guaranteed to play every week. 2 players for each position is the aim, I’d say Berge/Norwood is a good option in a deep midfield position.
