Would the Salary be an issue compared to what the other clubs would offer him? I suspect so :(

UTMB

Essentially, this is why we'll struggle to attract players to choose us over Premiership rivals.

West Ham would probably stick him on 50-60k a week without even blinking. I would think our offer would be 30-35k. It's just where we're at right now, I don't mind it. But as Wilder always says, it's why we have to be a bit more "creative" than others with out recruitment. Sadly, I think it will rule us out on Berge.

Not sure why a foreign player should be derided for being reticent about joining us.

He's looking for career progression which includes better opportunity to achieve as well as salary.

Unless a player has a connection to the club for some reason they aren't going to want to play for us just because of our name, simply because we've barely played top flight football in over 40 years.

I'm not been funny here, but how does anyone know he's any good? He sounds like a world beater from what people are saying so I'm just curious having maybe not followed world football as keenly as others on here.

Have people seen him play in the Champions League or Internationals? Read reports in the paper? Are there some YouTube vids kicking about? Is it because he's been linked with huge clubs? I'm assuming no one on here studies the Belgian Leagues.

I need to know the answers to the before I can get excited, please. Anyone?
Unsure how to properly share a YouTube video, so here is the link. He looks unreal in this...

I think you are being overly cynical. Why would he want to sign for a club odds on for relegation who he has probably barely heard of before? Everything in the press was also saying how direct we were (before they found out different).

It wouldn't be good for career progression at all.

I'd say this is the outlook of 99% of players.

Maybe, though you have to appreciate that when players view their next move as being to a particular league they aren’t going to be attracted by the idea of a move to most people’s tips to be rock bottom. That’s just how it is.

As I recall, Ricky Holmes picked Charlton over us in summer 2016. Irrespective of the success of his time here, the fact Holmes picked another club over us didn’t stop Wilder going back in for him.

Sadly I think that describes pretty much all footballers. Even the majority of our own squad (not all, admittedly).

i'll give the guy a break, if hadn't tried to sign him august I wouldn't mind, I just don't want to turn into few PL team worst offenders west ham, team where they have talented players but times cant be bothered with the hard graft. but I'll have to continue have faith in wilder to knock that trait out of them if they have it.

after all he made gary madine likeable which is 1 of greatest achievements as a utd manager ;)

Pretty certain that the reason he stayed where he is in summer was because he wanted to play European football, which is completely understandable if you ask me.

I said at the time that I wouldn't be surprised to see the deal resurface once his team were out of the competition. No surprise that he wants to join us now we're doing so well, although I'm sure I've seen somewhere that Genk are happy to sell but only if he stays with them until the end of the season

If we do sign him this is a real marker for us that we aren’t here to make numbers up we are here to maintain our top 10 position

If we really want to get this one done, which I hope we do because it would be an astonishing addition, we must do all we can to get it done now. If we wait until the summer I assume they'll be much more interest in him and he'll get a better offer from elsewhere. He has all the attributes to become one of footballs top midfielders, if 20M is about the price I think we should do it, he would be a great asset and we could make a huge profit in future.

Isn’t he a left-footer?

Could perhaps signal a slight tweak in our formation, with Norwood and Berge playing behind the more advanced Fleck?

When sides mark Norwood out of the game and nullify his passing, it stifles us and halts our rhythm. This bloke looks like he can take the ball past players and make something happen. Looks to me like it could be competition for Norwood, but also a 'horses for courses' signing to change things up when our usual gameplan is struggling a bit.

Reminds me a bit like bash Bambi on ice then you look and say how the fuck did he do 🤔

Looks like he would be a direct replacement for Norwood. Looks a good player, likes to go past players and then lay off the simple ball. Doesn't seem to have Norwood's Ping though.

I would of thought he would replace Lunny. Norwood is key to staying back as a deep laying playmaker. Berge would be a box to box similar to fleck.

I saw Blades Analytics suggested that on Twitter, but every source i can see says he's right footed? In truth BA is more likely to be correct than i am as they are actually employed in a Football Analytics role at another club.

I have done, several times. There seems to just be an unwritten assumption that he's amazing which is why I asked...

Edit: Just to clarify what I mean, the thread has gone from "we're linked with Sander Berge apparently" with not much response in the summer, to "would be an unreal signing", "how the hell would we pull this off", "game changer" type responses. There's just not much context in between. I'm just curious where the excitement has come from all of a sudden.

Eddie had a point. If you read the thread, there's no shortage of people talking based on experience of having watched him in the Champions League, or YouTube videos, or in his domestic league. Unsurprisingly, this is getting everyone else excited. Reading the thread genuinely answers your own question.

I might be wrong & might be cynical, but he looks a quality player. but what concerns me from the articles ive seen, is how berge didn't want us in the summer but now we are doing well In 7th/8th. all of a sudden he is interested in the club. this worries me that he's not here for the club he's here for his career & money. we could end up with type of character that is at west ham

Our first choice goalkeeper and many fan's favourite player is pretty open about seeing us as a stepping stone.

If he comes in and is reight fucking good at football for a couple of years before pushing for a move and fucking off to Man City for 70 million then I'm fine with that.

Just a foreign Lunny IMO cant see what's to fuss about. An exceptionally well edited 10 minute promo video, just a marketing tool. Lunnny should get one done, then you'd alll be raving about him in the same way, and telling us all to watch his 55 seconds long promo video.

I forgot all the top clubs in Europe have been all over Lundstram recently. What are you smoking ffs

And there is a video on page 6 🤷

This is fair enough, but Berge is on another level to anything we've had before. Sheffield United are a cohesive unit of talented players. Berge is a part of a collection of superb Norwegian talent that are about to take Europe by storm. If (and this is a big if) we get him in, it will be the biggest coup in recent SUFC history by a significant margin.

As an aside (on the topic of Norwegian talent) I found out yesterday that Erling Braut Haaland is the son of Alf Inge Haaland and was born in Leeds. He was eligible for England but opted for the Norwegians...
Let's be fair though. He needs a platform. He isn't going to take anything by storm playing for Genk.

Playing regularly in the Premier League he will have a good chance to kick on. He certainly isn't going to find a spot easy in the big 6 teams. He won't be displacing Kante any time soon for instance. We're the obvious one who may have a genuine opening. Even with West Ham, he'd have to take the spot of their captain. Can't imagine Noble stepping aside readily; a player Moyes needs if they are in for a scrap.

Even Serie A, it's absolute pony at the moment though I can appreciate the Champions League attraction. Look at some of the PL squad players being given roles in top teams there.

Someone on twitter (yeah I know, sorry) says he wouldn't come until their season ends though.
We could sign him now but not to actually join us until the summer.
Sounds odd.

That's fine. Like I said, I read the thread. I'm not excited. I'll wait to see how he plays if we sign him...
