Could he be a replacement for Lundstram ? Not seen much of him tbf. But if we match the £25m then could some of this be recouped selling Lundstram if he doesn’t sign his new deal ? No idea what we’d get for him to be fair £5m/£6m maybe.

As the eternal pessimist with rumours such as this, I just think it’s the story from the summer being rehashed. Can’t actually find any official comment from Genk’s director of football, despite him being quoted on insidefutbol.com !

I’ve watched about two hours of highlights on this giant, silky bastard now and he looks astonishingly good.

I know you have to take highlights with a pinch of salt, but what must this guy do in his lowlights to put the big clubs off?

Compulsively masturbate during corners?
Volley kittens at the advertising boards during the warm ups?
Denounce China in all his post-match interviews?

He does have games where he looks stationary and his passing more safe than penetrating. Not quite sure about his stamina/ability to press and cover ground over 90 minutes, he's a big lad and it takes some effort to constantly run around.

According to this mornings Mail we have been knocked back. It is the Mail of course so take it with a pinch of salt.

He comes with an “entourage”? When they speak for him, do they all speak at once, or one at a time? Would they be included in the fee, do we think?

Some due diligence on the “no twats” front needed here, or is this just an unfortunate choice of words by journo?

“the player’s entourage”. Ffs.

Think they mean entourage is his representative or agent

Just being linked with Berge will increase our profile in Norway and Belgium significantly I'd imagine.

Would appear to be quite a talent and a fair few other clubs appear to be interested too. He will not be signing for us. End of.
I feel we're being 'used' AGAIN by a player's agent to simply 'drum up' further / intensified interest for their client perhaps?

Looks like he would be a direct replacement for Norwood. Looks a good player, likes to go past players and then lay off the simple ball. Doesn't seem to have Norwood's Ping though.

We need to be targeting these type of players going forward, and also to be sustainable as a club. Berge will go for silly money in 2/3 years if he's successful with us!

Other option in the premiership is Wet Spam.. Somewhat floundering at the moment. We're up and coming, play attractive football, have a fantastic manager with a record of improving players, so why wouldn't he want to come? Granted Napoli are looking, but i cant see him walking into that team. Guess it all comes down to what the player wants (to continue playing 1st team football or sit and warm the bench)

True! But I do think we should be aiming to improve on what we have. Whether it’s this player or someone else. We are a team at the top end of the Prem with European ambitions. We need to think and act like it.

This is fair enough, but Berge is on another level to anything we've had before. Sheffield United are a cohesive unit of talented players. Berge is a part of a collection of superb Norwegian talent that are about to take Europe by storm. If (and this is a big if) we get him in, it will be the biggest coup in recent SUFC history by a significant margin.

As an aside (on the topic of Norwegian talent) I found out yesterday that Erling Braut Haaland is the son of Alf Inge Haaland and was born in Leeds. He was eligible for England but opted for the Norwegians...

I disagree. I think he's more likely to occupy the Lundstram role, though I think he has the attributes to do both.
Quite possibly but he does look to sit deeper than Lunny

I'm not been funny here, but how does anyone know he's any good? He sounds like a world beater from what people are saying so I'm just curious having maybe not followed world football as keenly as others on here.

Have people seen him play in the Champions League or Internationals? Read reports in the paper? Are there some YouTube vids kicking about? Is it because he's been linked with huge clubs? I'm assuming no one on here studies the Belgian Leagues.

I need to know the answers to the before I can get excited, please. Anyone?

He does, but that's probabaly more down to manager instruction. A different manager may wish to play him in a slightly different position.

When you look at his attributes, I think he's better suited to the box to box role, rather than the deeper playmaker role.

That's just me though.

In the one game I watched with him, he sits deep. I can’t see him replacing Lunny, he didn’t have the work rate. I would have thought he would be replacing Norwood.
...... but again, this was only one game.

A big reason we'll be interested is because he could comfortably play either the Lundstram or Norwood roles.

I might be wrong & might be cynical, but he looks a quality player. but what concerns me from the articles ive seen, is how berge didn't want us in the summer but now we are doing well In 7th/8th. all of a sudden he is interested in the club. this worries me that he's not here for the club he's here for his career & money. we could end up with type of character that is at west ham

I think you are being overly cynical. Why would he want to sign for a club odds on for relegation who he has probably barely heard of before? Everything in the press was also saying how direct we were (before they found out different).

It wouldn't be good for career progression at all.

I'd say this is the outlook of 99% of players.

Maybe, though you have to appreciate that when players view their next move as being to a particular league they aren’t going to be attracted by the idea of a move to most people’s tips to be rock bottom. That’s just how it is.

As I recall, Ricky Holmes picked Charlton over us in summer 2016. Irrespective of the success of his time here, the fact Holmes picked another club over us didn’t stop Wilder going back in for him.

Sadly I think that describes pretty much all footballers. Even the majority of our own squad (not all, admittedly).

Would the Salary be an issue compared to what the other clubs would offer him? I suspect so :(
