Outgoing? SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT ?

United have lost 5 league games and 1 league Cup game this season (6).

Sander Berge didn't start in 4 of those defeats... so 66% of the defeats are when he doesn't play.
stats are all well and good and do see the point your making but sander just isnt doing enough for the team just now and think a couple of games on the bench might actually have a positive effect on his attitude when he gets back in our starting 11

How do we know that would clear the embargo?
Someone on here said our last accounts showed we owed £30m+ on purchased players, and we haven't sold anyone since
It was just over £40m at the start of 21/22. £21.6m of that was due before the end of June 2022 so can probably be safely assumed to be settled; the other £18.5m was due after June 2022. Some of that would have been due in the summer and was paid (otherwise we'd not have signed Khadra), we probably owe between £10-15m now. I think we expected to sell Berge for £15m+ in the summer to cover the liabilities but that obviously didn't happen.

£18.25m and £18.56m within/after one year.

He’ll see what happened with Rammers and fancy a slice. Guaranteed not to stick a leg in for fear of an injury.

I hope the club don’t sell him. We need to keep every player at the club who’s here.

We have to give ourselves the best possible chance of getting out this division

Forget the 13 points. 18 games to go, owt can happen and often does.

Why start selling our players when we need the full squad? It would be a stupid decision to weaken us as we enter the home stretch imo

Doesn’t matter to me who we consider are the stars at the club, we need them all, as we saw what happened the last time when we went on a bad run with virtually a full team out due to injuries.

The manager has said he's been playing through the pain barrier after his injury and is only just getting up to speed. Something that he should be praise for imo. Many would've refused to play and let the results suffer (as they did when he was out).

Let's sell the first team player who when he plays 'accidentally' coincides with the best W/L record this season, in the process risking throwing 150 million away. I've heard it all now.

I find this ironic, because when we went 25 straight games when Berge played without winning between June 2020 and November 2021 - a period in which we won 18 games that he did not play in - some people insisted that this sequence was a fluke and nothing to do with Berge at all.

(FWIW I wouldn't sell either)

I think our best results and performance this season coincided with him in the team. Particularly the August September period when we married both together. I can make arguments to sell but these would be purely financial. If you can flip Berge and get a better player on lower wages, on a long contract, it's a no brainer.
I don't really see a football argument - he's one of our better players. If anything we should be looking to tie him, Bogle, Ndiaye, Anel, RND, Mcburnie, Jebbo etc down, not advocating that they are sold.

I have my doubts about Berge long term but this is a terrible time to be selling him on the assumption no one is coming in.

The only players I would consider offloading at the moment would be people with a short time to run on their deals who aren't contributing much, usually due to injury (eg Fleck and Stevens) but there is no market for these players now.

I just think the timing isn’t great.

Will he ever be a player that is genuinely worth 30m or more? I’m not so sure. Some players look far better in better teams. I recall at one point Mascherano was only making the bench at West Ham. Fast forward a few years and he became a starter in the Barcelona team.

I’d just question with 5 days left our ability to prize someone away from a team and get a long term replacement in. With Sander he can play a few roles so he is quite difficult to replace with one player. Not many players can fulfil the role of winger one minute, deep lying midfielder the next.

Of course the issue is if Chelsea pay his release clause. Todd Boehly seems non-plussed about spending big. Most of us doubt that Sander would fetch 35m. But then again, was Fofana worth 70m+? Is Mudryk really worth what they paid? Is Cucurella?

Hopefully we keep. Good financials aside, it’s a time to not rock the boat even if that means taking a financial hit later on. If we go up, we’d be better placed to absorb such a hit.

Incredible how people are so blinded with Berge because of his price tag. Apparently its irrelevant that when he plays we have a better record that when he doesn't, but that doesn't matter because people think he looks slow when he runs. Funny how 90% of the time he outpaces defenders when he gets past them to the byline, but no, because he doesn't look good when he does it, he's crap. Let's sell him and get Oli Burke back because at least he looks faster.
Guy is more or less back to his best after injury and when he's at his best he's unplayable in the Championship. He's also one that can definitely handle the jump to the prem.

Correct. If we sold him we wouldn't replace him. Careful what you wish for.
Hence the comment "as long as he was replaced with someone half decent". It means that I don't particularly rate him that highly, and if we can get more dosh for him in this window then great. I'd rather keep him though if his replacement would inevitably be Osborn.

Any article that displays a sub headline "Berge has been United's best player this season" should be instantly disregarded.

Hecky said it, it’s referenced in that article.

Bizarre statement. He's miles off it. It was a conversation in August, everything since - no way.
Makes me wonder if we're actively trying to market him.
Something I'd support, if it meant paying our dues and protecting our trading opportunities in future windows.
Even more so if it gave us time to find a loanee replacement.

Berge has been well below-par for a long time now and has sadly also looked disinterested.

No, that quote was taken from a Chris Wilder interview in November 2020. Not sure anyone had covered themselves in any glory by that point in the disastrous relegation season.

Haven't Liverpool said nothing else this window? Chelsea have signed anything that moves so no surprise he's linked to them.

Could united owe an installment on Brewster and be swapping Berge in lieu of £. Hopefully not.

Unless we are dire straits we shouldn't be selling any first teamers.

The wins with and without him stats going round are ridiculous. He was out injured when the likes of Bogle, Lowe, RND, Clark, Fleck and Mcburnie were all missing.
