Outgoing? SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT ?

If he’s got a clause for £35m and someone offers £35m, we have to accept it. Simple as that. It’s a decent return on an investment and will go a long way to covering whatever deficit we’ll have from losing a chunk of PL money.

Yes I thought the same Bob ! Start of an era I thought we were going to cement our premiership place,
It was obviouse the squad as it stood would struggle to maintain what we achieved before lockdown so Berge I thought would be the start of a rebuild which was going to be needed to improve !
how wrong can one be.
No doubt the empty stadium had an effect on us but to be so far off the pace just seemed unreal ( a nightmare I would wake up from).
We are where we are now ! 35 million for Berge? We have to take that if its offered.

If his release clause is £35m and that is the amount offered, you're incorrect in stating that Utd literally do have to accept it - they'd have no choice but to do so.

Excellent player, who really felt like he could help us to the "next level". He'll play for a really big club before long. Although he did alright for us, I'm not sure he suited Wilder's 532, and he had little time to adapt to it (plus Covid times).

Seems a great kid and a great pro. Would like to keep him for many reasons. But if there is a £35m clause (seems likely) we'll have no say in the matter anyway.

N.B. If we were appointing Clement as per current rumour, he'd know exactly how to use Berge, as at Genk together.

Agree BB - he excelled previously in a 4-2-3-1 which naturally provides him with different and more passing options, particularly moving forward.

He was a statement signing, thats for sure. I mentioned a little while back that I'm certain he'll be subject of a Four Four Two article in about 10 years time - either as a 'Fuck me, I can't believe he played for Sheffield United' or a 'Fuck me, whatever happened to that guy that Sheffield United spunked £20m on' article.

As it stands, I don't think any of us know if he'd beast the Championship or not. He probably would on all we know, but turning down £30m or so would look very silly if he continued to show only glimpses next season, and we'd probably end up making a loss on him. £35m would be decent business if we can get it, and we can get 2 or 3 very good known Championship standouts for that money.

Sky sports now saying price of release clause has dropped from £45 mill to £35mill, as we are relegated from Premier League. Already it appears, Everton, Aston Villa, to name but two are interested at that price!!!!!!!

Whether the proceeds will be reinvested remains to be seen - I'd have thought most if not all would be to compensate for the loss of revenue (as every relegated club has done). I certainly wouldn't expect 3 x £10m players to be signed on the back of his sale.

For 35m I'd sell, I don't feel he's really shown his true potential with us never really seemed to fit into our style of play and tbh I don't see him being suited to the English game he's far too lightweight and sluggish on the ball. He's a luxury we couldn't really accommodate.
Lightweight on the ball? I'd say that's the complete opposite of what he is.

He's strong on the ball, lightweight off it.

Well sure, if we need that money, then Berge is as good a way to get it as any. Put it this way, I'd rather we keep Egan, JO'C than Berge. Sure, Berge may well be a top top player, but we need a squad to get us out the Championship next year - and starting with Egan and Jack at the back is a great start to do just that.

This article, not the best pf sources, but saying it's not as high as £35m but £25m!

It's citing Transfermarkt as a source. That would be Transfermarkt, run by German volunteers in their spare time. I'd not read too much into it.

Only if Berge wants to leave.

Haha under what circumstances would you expect him to refuse a move to a top half/6 Prem club, doubling/trebling his salary in the process in favour of playing for Utd in the Champ?

Don't forget he and his agent initially refuted Utd's approach due to concerns the club would be involved in a relegation battle.

35 mill is a fair price if that's true. Well done to the board for actually agreeing a decent release clause instead of 100k for Kevin McDonald and 500k for Paddy Kenny.

I will be gutted if Sander leaves us. He would be an absolute beast in the championship, I've no doubt. Aside from his obvious talent (which we haven't been able to really properly enjoy watching yet), he seems like a very intelligent young guy, very mature and hard-working, low-maintenance and humble. He is a role model and a guy that I'm sure will become a leader at any club as he progresses in his career.

From a purely financial perspective, if the club can get £35m for him in the current market, that would be incredible.

I would still prefer to see him with us for at least another season.

I wonder what the desires of Sander himself are currently. Was Wilder a big influence in him joining us?

If I was Sander I'd go to Brighton where they play his style. He'd be unreal next to Bissouma.

Wilder, & our loftt position in the Prem at the time, was certainly the main driver for him joining.

He turned us down in the August as he expected we'd be in a relegation battle. Then when he joined in the January he was careful to put in this release clause in case of future relegation.

There's no way he wants to stay in this shambles playing second tier football.

Sander Berge is our prize asset, someone who will command a big fee. And if the rumours of a relegation release clause are true then he will be off. A shame because he looks class. My Everton friends here on Merseyside are already asking me if the release clause is true!

Arsenal and Everton want Sander Berge, £35m release-clause due to relegation

Arsenal and Everton have found out the price it will cost if they wish to take Sander Berge from Sheffield United this summer.

According to Yorkshire Live, Berge will be allowed to leave the club for around £35m this summer. That is a drop in the original buyout clause United inserted in Berge’s contract, thought to be around £45m.

The drop-off is thought to be due to United’s relegation back to the Championship. Berge, however, is not thought to be actively pushing for a move despite the amount of interest.
Both Arsenal and Everton are said to be keen on the Blades star. Spurs, too, have also shown an interest in him over the last few months.

28m net after Genk take their piece of the pie, will easily cover what we owe Liverpool for Brewster, with a few quid left to buy some lower league startlet for next season.
You should change your name to doesn'tunderstandhowtransferswork blade

I take it you’re referring to Genks 20% ?

if so, that may be correct but I’ll bet we still owe them part of the initial fee, Liverpool for Brewster, maybe some fee for Ramsdale and maybe even an instalment on McBurnie’s fee
All these big signings are paid for in instalments. I’m guessing we owe a fair owed wedge before we break even. By the time Genk get their share along with any other fees still outstanding I’ll guess there’s fk all of the £35m left? Hence I think maybe Egan will leave as well thus allowing a transfer kitty for the new manager

I would also hazard a guess that a chunk of the parachute money will also be going to the mortgage payments taken out to pay McCabe?

Personally, I don’t think we’ll have anywhere near a top budget for next season. Just my guess

Where does is say lightweight on the ball in my post??? Get your facts rite pal before you reply 👍

I don't see how he is an Excellent player tbh, I would rate his time with us as 4/5 out of 10

He's clearly a quality footballer. He doesn't fit into our PL team really. He's kind of a stretched Coutts so will be a much better player when we dominate possession. If we get £35 million for his then that's a great piece of business.
