Outgoing? SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT ?

Those saying that if Sander goes we'll hopefully see half of the fee for hecky to spend as he sees fit may be a tad disappointed in my view. Let's say we get £20m. Of that we'll only see maybe half up front, so that leaves us half of that for a new signing at best. You've got wages, signing on fees, agents fees etc as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Sander goes, especially if it's in the last few days of the window, that we don't sign anyone. With Khadra and McAtee just sat on their arses as it stands they'll likely be more involved. I'd love to think we'll sign someone else where hecky sees fit, like I want with competition for Fleck, I'm just not so sure that'll happen although that's me changing my mind from earlier I know!

At least Berge is playing well and justifying his fee, the same can't be said regrettably about others, we need Brewster and Mcburnie to start showing why they were so highly rated when we signed them. If not either is well above Darius Henderson as the biggest waste of transfer fee in my time! I still rate both but it's time both delivered, obviously.
I don’t really get how people think other clubs can sign Sander without paying up front, but that somehow we can’t do the same when we sign someone else.

Football clubs don’t pay up front. If we have the money coming, we can spend it elsewhere.

Doesn’t mean we will mind….

Fleck & Norwood should be done full stop. They are both stealing a wage.
What a ridiculous post. I get how people can have the opinion that a change of personnel in midfield may improve our performances, but to accuse 2 tremendous servants of "stealing a wage" is disgraceful. Both have played magnificently for us over a number of years and deserve respect for that. Also, for any faults that they may have performance wise, there is no doubt that lack of effort is not one of them.

It think what he is saying is that if we truly want to get promotion this year, we need better than Fleck and Norwood. Is Doyle Flecks replacement?

We need real Energy in midfield.

We know that Sander isn't the best at tracking back, but we accept that as he's best driving forward, and we have strikers who are struggling for goals.

It’s was always going to be a double edged sword with Berge.

If he plays like his first year or so for us, he would have been vastly disappointing, not remotely worth what we paid and unlikely to attract interest.

If he plays like the last few months of last season, the more we will want to keep him but the more interest he will attract. Pretty sure PH said as much, along the lines of play well and you’ll get your move.

Whether media speculation or genuine interest, a few clubs rumoured to be chasing only pushes up the asking price.

Near enough certain he’ll go this window, but hopefully this has moved his ‘worth’ to north of what we paid for at the very least and ideally posting a profit.

It’s just a shame we’ve only seen Berge at his best fleetingly in red and white, as if he can play at his best consistently could go to the very top (and was one of my favourite players I’ve watched in red and white)

The more clubs that are interested, the more likely someone will trigger his release clause, which is the only way I can see him leave in this window. Fees that are currently being paid for players are getting ridiculous, so £35m is achievable and at that price he would be good business for all concerned.
Sorry but us getting £35m for Berge is never going to happen this summer! At best we'll get £20m and probably 25% of that will be related to certain criteria being met such as a club staying in the Premier League. When has any player from the championship gone for £35 million? Off the top of my head the £28m paid by villa for Brentford's Olli Watkins was the highest I recall from 2020. A centre forward maybe but a centre mid less so and he's only just had one good half a season continuing to this season. Lewis-Potter from hull went for £16m recently I would say that's more realistic.

Agree with regards to the fees. Caveat is that berge has played and played well in the champions league and the odd performance in the prem also. Neither of those you mentioned had ever played above championship level before.

I think Benrahma might have gone for close to it.

Didn't Wednesday turn down an offer of £70 million for Bannan when they were in the Championship? 🤣

Hardly anyone here (myself included) thought we'd get what we did for Rammers. Based on this I expect we'd look for at least $30m for Berge. I can easily imagine someone paying that. As an example, (and it may be unpopular) but if Forest don't get MGW we know they have a lazy $40m lying around for an attacking midfielder.

I wouldn't mind taking Forest's 30mil for Berge - I love to watch him when he turns it on, but I don't think he has the heart for a potential relegation scrap. MGW on the other hand, is a total grafter and fighter

I’d guess that the club he ends up at have not even shown their hand yet. Sat waiting to try and get him on the cheap as the window closes, all the rumours of clubs after him will do us no harm and hopefully one or two of them are true as it will bring the price up when the buying club finally shows their hand.

That being said, I truly hope he is here till the end of the season at least. If we are to get promoted he will have a massive say in it, more than any player at the club… I don’t think some of us realise just how good he is, when he is playing with better players we will watch him over the coming years and won’t believe he once played for us at Bramall Lane, the man’s a star.

This rumour seems to be a little more concrete, a little more like it - Serie A, big club, step up, ambitious. The issue will be their offer, and if they can afford him. If not, as before, he stays.

Sander came back from injury last season, started attacking and scoring goals.

He has started this season in the same way.

If we are really going to sell him, I hope the recruitment team has a replacement lined up, because strong, fast, technically gifted, 6ft 5 midfielders are not that common.

That last paragraph describes him perfectly. He may not always turn it on, and he certainly doesn't routinely boss games but they are his attributes, and collectively, they're very rare. Hence, his value.

Think we already have the replacement (at least in Hecky’s mind) at the club. It’s obvious we have signed McAtee, Khadra and arguably Doyle, not only with competition for places in mind, but also on the possibility of Berge departing.

If he goes, I’d be very surprised if we are suddenly in the market for somebody else. I think the steps have been taken from the club’s perspective for this already.
...but this is how I see it. If Berge goes, I don't think we sign anyone. The money is towards balancing spreadsheets and we go with a more conventional attacking shape using those at the club already. He'll be a huge loss, in terms of the added dimension and driving runs he offers us.

Rumour this morning that Klopp is still interested in Berge

Hope it's paper bollox

Lazy journos hopefully. It was well documented that Klopp spoke to him after a European game at Anfield and I am sure he does retain "an interest" in Berge and many other players.

Rumour this morning that Klopp is still interested in Berge

Hope it's paper bollox

The Sky reporter apparently said "There is a growing concern from Sheffield United fans that he (Sander) won’t be here by the end of the window. We know Jürgen Klopp has expressed interest in recent weeks”

Sounds like bollocks. Insert the name of a top-six club's manager to make a story sound more interesting.

It's amazing how much you can squeeze out of a line from a journo, though. Sentence like that goes into a tweet, tweets morph into more tweets, tweets become rumours and rumours lead to articles from football365 or footballinsider or whatever the fuck.

I think Sky not running any story on it shows it was just a line to fill time by a commentator that's been blown out of proportion

Thiago injury + Klopp once complimented Sander is just journos filling a page with 2+2=5.

Love Sander but can’t see him in Liverpools plans. They like quick, nippy and fast counter attacking players in attack and he hasn’t got the agility or aggression to play a Fabinho type role.

Thiago is just ridiculously good

Rumours are rife over there that they’ve zeroed in on Belligham and have ceased to pursue all other midfield targets

we had a post on our forum(boro) if you could take any other champo player from other teams who would it be. i'd pick sander, hes a beast best player in the league.

If I could take any of yours it would be Jones, or Giles. We need some good attacking wing backs.

Anyone from the league?
João Pedro, Brereton-Diaz or Keinan Davis would all be great for us. We lack firepower.
Choudhury would be brilliant in the middle of the park, a lot of presence and mobility.
Also a fan of Maatsen (LWB) and Josh Cullen at Burnley. Max Aarons is a cracking player too.

I wouldn't trade any for Sander Berge right now.

Fingers crossed both Joan Pedro and Brereton Diaz are gone ASAP given the rumours

We still owe Liverpool so many millions for Brewster, that could be paid off with a straight swop with berge

And why would we do that? Brewster money is budgeted for at the time of concluding the transfer. And we’ve probably paid off most of the instalments already over the last 3 years which would only leave performance based payments (if there were any).

We don’t owe Liverpoop £35m which is what they will have to pay to get Berge so absolutely no point “swopping” Berge for a debt that is a fraction of the value of our best player.
