Norwood has been habitually squandering dead ball opportunities for some time now. For someone with such sweet feet, the last time he hit a Sheffield United player's head and we capitalised on it was in July when his corner went across the box at the right height and velocity for John Egan to power home versus Wolves. Since then, countless corners have been booted at the front defender at the near post. So much so, that if you watch, most oppositions position a defender on the front stick when he takes a corner just for that. He can't get enough height, accuracy and velocity on it to clear that first man.
Now this wouldn't matter so much if we had three wins and two draws on the cards so far this season. But as we've seen, goalscoring opportunities are bit of a premium, and one of the more prolific chances in the modern game is in fact, the dead ball cross. As it was yesterday with his free kick, I'd just stick someone twenty yards from the ball (like the apex of the area) because sure as god made little green apples, that free kick isn't going into the heading zone for a first-or-second-ball attempt on goal, is it?
So there's a lot of point in the fact that goalscoring opportunities are wasted when you're not scoring any goals. Had we killed WBA off yesterday, any comments on Norwood's deadball situational shitness might be deemed irrelevant, but being as we scored zero ... and lost, any delivery problems we have need looking at. Especially as it's he who is detailed off to take free kicks and corners. And he's shit at it. Fortunately, Man U have other avenues of scoring goals too. We haven't.
