No-one's saying it's now going to be a cracking atmosphere every game. But standing encourages singing and creates a better atmosphere. That's why the chants on the kop tend to come from those who currently stand. You don't need to stand or join in if you don't want to.

It's healthier to stand, move your body and get your blood circulating and exercise your vocal cords in the winter cold. Far better than sitting shivering in your seat, moaning about the lack of atmosphere. I get that standing isn't for everyone, but for me it's the best way to experience a game.

This is really good news. and the fan initiatives from last season are really welcome too. Things are definitely moving in the right direction from a supporter perspective. Hopefully they will look at the catering next.

My thoughts
It's a step forward and brilliant that it's being taken forward in this city. I honestly doubted that either club or the local authority would go for it.

We NEED to try something to ratchet up the atmosphere as it's been dire for a good while now.

And it directly addresses the standing problems at the back of the kop, giving fans what they've wanted with non compliance with ground regs, reducing the risk of sanctions

I completely disagree. The last thing I want to do for 90 odd minutes is stand up consistently. I can't be arsed! I'm a passionate fan, I don't need to stand for 90 minutes to keep this up. Standing up and making noise isn't a direct correlation. This is so discrimatory to older fans, many of whom have had their seat towards the back of the kop for years.

I completely disagree. The last thing I want to do for 90 odd minutes is stand up consistently. I can't be arsed! I'm a passionate fan, I don't need to stand for 90 minutes to keep this up. Standing up and making noise isn't a direct correlation. This is so discrimatory to older fans, many of whom have had their seat towards the back of the kop for years.

I'll swap you for my seat on Row MM. You can sit next to the 'know it all twat' I sit next to.

At 6'4" I'm more than happy to stand rather than contort myself into the crap leg room I have on the Kop.

I'd have thought that they'll be more than enough people gladly giving their seats up to move to the safe standing area to satisfy those that want or need to sit.

The future prosperity of Sheff Utd is much more important than my personal seat and I’d be prepared to move seat if it improved the club.
(altho my season ticket isn’t exactly in a great position, near the front of the Kop) but I’d still be willing to make sacrifices to help the club.

Throwing people out of seats they've sat in for years, with groups of people they've been friends with for years, because they're getting older? I’m talking idealistically, think there should be an option for really cheap tickets…..maybe for under 25’s.

I’m sure I read a few year back that German football has tickets at 20 euros in the top flight….thats £16 for an adult ticket.
Sounds impressive but that’s only the cheapest standing areas behind the goal.
In the better seats there’s a big choice of £30 tickets, with some being £60 and £80.
So the very best seats were expensive but some people can easily afford those prices, it’s their choice….almost a kind of pay what you can.

I’m down at the front and unless it’s a big match or we play brilliant attacking football it’s quite sedate…
Also not much leg room…you have to strategically place your knees at the outer edges of the seat in front.

The coked up lads should all be in the singing/ standing area letting off some energy…..I hope.
Appreciate there might be teething problems but it’s a step in the right direction to make as many people as happy as possible.
Does make me wonder if there’s much demand for standing and whether it will catch on and become fashionable again.

Been through this before. Even ignoring the cost of any work required you need to consider any financial negatives that could arise - not that l’m against it btw - because cheaper prices will only work with increased attendance. We can only go so far with that due to capacity. So that’s an issue.
Cheaper pricing for youngsters, as under McCabe, helped increase the fanbase and should be given thought too again.

Yes, that's why I wouldn't want to sit down there. I enjoy my seat near the back. Why would I want to give my seat up to someone else for standing?? I've sat there for years and also bought and paid for my season ticket - in that seat I love being in the Kop. I love singing and shouting my head off. Also like to sit down a bit.

If you are forced to move, then hopefully they can find you a seat as close to the standing section as possible so you can still join in with it all.

Safe standing on the about bleeding time row AF down to QQ or summat. However, I will be generous, I am getting on a bit, 68 years old. So I will give up my seat on Row AF to a young un back of the Kop. I am too young to join the worthers brigade in the T-C stand. So I will sit in the top row of Bramall Lane upper saves me from walking reyt down John Street. I will celebrate this by having a few pints int the Railway or Cricketers before the match.

It’ll probably be about 1/4 of the Kop (3k total, but also some on Bramall Lane within that), so plenty of choice to not stand if you don’t wish to.

Does seem short sighted to do this after season tickets have been sold. I wouldn't be impressed if I was asked to move away from a seat/friends that I'd had for years. FWIW, I think it's a good thing, safe standing, but there's going to be teething troubles. The back of the kop is already overrun by people going up there that have bought tickets for somewhere else on the kop, this is going to make that worse, at least initially.

Hopefully the club can find a good solution for those that are being displaced - I'm sure they're thought it all through.....
