Would love him to become a top player for us but sadly he shows no signs of being one even at 18. When you have been fortunate enough as I have to have seen Mick Jones, BIrchenall, Badger and Woodward, Walker, Mcguire and others come through as 18yr olds then you don't get to carried away with a lad that looks out of his depth.I like them, I like all the young players and am always positive about them, but what’s that got to do with this?
We are talking about a moron here, you, writing off a 18 year old kid after his very first start. Not only writing him off but claiming he’s only good enough for non league. This is a teenage kid playing for the team you say you support yet you have gone in two footed on the kid and wanting him gone to the conference. Absolutely pathetic from a grown man.
I too have felt his work rate is disappointing (certainly compared with O’Hare and Hamer) but maybe that’s due to lack of match fitness and tender age. However as pointed out he did chase down one ball over the top and after tangling with the Argyle defender won a corner. It was from that career that the ball was headed out and fell to Hamer who scored the first goal. That ones down to One.Very difficult for an 18yr old lad to come in at the top of the Championship in the position of lone striker , where he is bound to be under the microscope.
Like Jebbo & Osula , he has a promising physique but he's still a boy compared to the men at this level.
One thing I was disappointed in was his work out of possession - he only had to look at the hard yards put in by O'Hare & Hamer in the pressing today to get an idea of what's required.
At times they were running their blood to water and he was trotting slowly across the line , leaving his man completely open for a pass to break the press. I was shouting "stick to your man !" (usually their no.6).
He had one break forward towards the kop when he was put in beautifully but his first touch was poor and he lost it.
If controlled , he was in on goal.
It shows how threadbare we are that he is getting a start because he's nowhere near being ready.
So it's far too early to make any judgement and he needs to play a lot more football and learn the game before being the lone striker of a club hoping for autos.
He's a boy in a man's body at present needs time to mature .Very nieve as yet ! find some aggression which I think will come .I’ve not seen him for the 21’s, but when he’s come on as sub, he always looks absolutely knackered, after about ten minutes.
He undoubtedly has the base physicality required to develop into a top player, but does he have the necessary desire and application to do so? I thought he was also mostly ineffective today and has a very languid style, which could easily be misinterpreted as a lack of effort? He is currently miles off being a Championship striker, which is perfectly understandable given his age. In my opinion, he would definitely benefit from a loan to National league or League 2, if he can’t hold down a regular starting berth at that level now, he probably isn’t going to make the move up to the Championship in the future.
Is there something wrong with you?
A young 18 year old lad starting his first game for us and you have not only written him off already but want him to fuck off to the conference as that’s his level? After his very first start!!
Honestly this place is going to the fucking dogs, full of absolute morons these days.
Bet you didn’t say that against Bristol didn’t look out of his depth thenWould love him to become a top player for us but sadly he shows no signs of being one even at 18. I’ve not seen one post today getting carried away. Some believe he’s a very good prospect me included. Some believe he’s not ready and needs a loan, nothing wrong with that opinion. Then there is you with your opinion which was a disgrace tbh and you have totally written him off as a non league player.Would love him to become a top player for us but sadly he shows no signs of being one even at 18. Everyone to their own opinion, but you’re showing your age with that viewpoint.Would love him to become a top player for us but sadly he shows no signs of being one even at 18. He is rapidWhy do people keep saying he's fast? Because he's young and black? He really isn't particularly quick at all from what I've seen of him. Pace isn't his strength.
Tell you what - guarantee you wouldn't last 5 minutes in the conference, let alone start a championship game.Hope he does, takes off to his level. Conference.
Sorry but are you a fortune teller?Would love him to become a top player for us but sadly he shows no signs of being one even at 18. Neither was Berge unless you know his stats from inside the clubWhy do people keep saying he's fast? Because he's young and black? He really isn't particularly quick at all from what I've seen of him. Pace isn't his strength.
Best of the evening. Take a bow.I’ve not seen one post today getting carried away. Some believe he’s a very good prospect me included. Football players not only read all the comments on Twitter but they read forums, as do their families. Ryan has made a monumental career milestone today his very first start at such a young age, guaranteed he will have been on here proud as punch reading about himself and what we think and there’s you wanting him gone and to his level, the conference. That is some way to support a young kid who at that age confidence is massive.
There is some young players in the 23s and have been in and around the squad who I think will not make it but I wouldn’t dream of slaughtering them on here so I’d never say it. When it comes to the young lads (17-21) if you haven’t got anything positive to say it’s best to say nothing at all.
So not only have you cast incorrect aspersions about One, you've gone after the chairman too!I'm pretty sure if we didn't have an idiot chairman and actually signed enough players then One would have been out on loan to a conference side. He's clearly not ready. Not his fault.
Go on, where would he have gone on loan to?So not only have you cast incorrect aspersions about One, you've gone after the chairman too!
Fucking hell some people on here don't deserve it as good as we have it
It was chasing down one of those that was a bit of a lost cause that won the corner from which we scored the first goal.Gilchrist should have played more balls into that right hand channel for One instead of balls directly to him that weren't particularly accurate.
He can be a bloody nuisance and balls down those channels gives him the opportunity of causing defenders problems. He got clattered by one of their defenders which the referee chose to ignore.
We don't want to break players who have just come back from injury...Harsh on Brewster not to start on Saturday after he played and scored. Not sure how One got the nod ahead of him.
I agree with most of your comments but these young lads will need to learn that criticism in the public forum arena is never far away .I am sure they get many a bollocking behind closed doors and that they are nurtured in dealing with and being prepared for public criticism, as much as they are for adulation. These young prospects aren't under 10's they are on a tread mill to men's professional football and have passed many gruelling age groups to get this far.I’ve not seen one post today getting carried away. Some believe he’s a very good prospect me included. Some believe he’s not ready and needs a loan, nothing wrong with that opinion. 90% of the time you can tell at 18/19 if they're going to become a top player or not. We all saw Jagielka, Walker, Brooks etc at a young age and it was obvious they would make it. I don't see that in One, Osula or Jebbison. All very average players to my eye.Is he that far behind Osula who just went to Newcastle for £15m?
Is he that far behind Jebbo who we dumped?
He's 18 and ALREADY scored at a lower level against men (albeit way lower), the rest will take time.
He also won the corner that lead to the first goalWhat a ridiculous post.
He's 18 and was leading the line on his own today against far more experienced players. Despite that he still kept them honest.
We have had far worse debuts from supposedly "seasoned" players and he has hardly looked out of place whenever else he has played.
