Player Suggestion Ryan Manning

Make no mistake, we will be after Ryan Manning. We'll offer him sensible wages and the chance to start games in the Premier League as part of a tight knit squad where he will enjoy coming to work every day. If he joins us on those terms, happy days. If he chooses to join a club offering more money but none of the other stuff then I wouldn't want that kind of player in my squad anyway.
Is this actual inside knowledge or is it just someone talking definitively like that guy who said we were definitely in for Pukki. It’s hard to tell sometimes.

No insider knowledge at all, pal. The best LWB in the Championship, on a free - we must surely be interested.
Along with all the championship clubs and half the PL not to mention overseas. LWB is probably hardest position to fill. Bring back Bob Harris

Re. him going to Southampton to be reunited with Martin - maybe Manning doesn’t like him? It does seem an obvious move, but we often assume players like every manager they’ve played for.

There are examples.

Colin Franks joined us in summer 1973, he was disappointed in December 1973 when his old Manager at Watford, Ken Furphy, left Blackburn to become our manager. Franks didnt have a good relationship with Furphy at Watford and told his wife that it was probably best for him to find a new club. He was surprised that he lasted longer with us than Furphy did

Gordon Strachan was aghast when his former manager at Aberdeen, Alex Ferguson joined Man U as they didnt have a good relationship at Aberdeen. Strachan left Man U 2 and half years later.

Dont think Gerry Daly was too pleased when his old manager at Man U, Tommy Docherty, joined his club Derby too.

Wash your mouth out B56 - how Harris pretty much avoided criticism is beyond me. I thought he was awful (backed up by the downward spiral his career took after leaving Utd - semi-pro being about his natural level). He was just lucky there were so many other atrocious players in the squad at the time.

As an example of his awfulness, take a look at his role in Hull's final goal at Wembley.

On the flip side, I was staggered how underrated Tom Cowan was - high quality, reliable, great personality in the squad etc.

In the grand scheme of things at the time Harris was pretty middle of the road, nothing too horrific. Then, my view is probably clouded by the list of horrendous left backs we've endured over the years - Williams, Stewart, Taylor, Hussey just for starters

Manning had decent stats in the Championship.

If we’re looking at loan to buy full internationals with a fee of 10m we’re already looking at different gravy, no disrespect to RM.

Feels like a missed opportunity with Manning because it'll be hard for us to get a better championship preparation LWB

Hopefully we follow up that interest in Maouassa and get him instead, or Perraud as I said. They might both be loans though. Would be great if we could somehow get Maouassa permanent - he's worth taking the plunge on

Wouldn’t have minded him as a free transfer in a position of need. That said he would probably have wanted a hefty signing on fee.

Given it was mention the 4 foreign players we were looking at included a left back - perhaps an indication we weren’t actually in for him.

The LWB is the one I'm most interested to know..... could be anyone

Lowe is fine anyway......
He’s certainly got a calm composed approach with no little skill - when he’s on it

However - a paper thin liability when he isn’t

It’s consistency he needs to provide

I’m guessing here but wouldn’t be surprised if Slimane is it until loan of whatever’s left over with 12 hours to go to wi Dow closing

Sounds like I might be in a minority on this one but not fussed he's gone elsewhere.

Decent Champ player but imho not a great one and deffo not a PL player.

Same. Could he make the step up? Probably. Is he going to be a huge improvement in an area of the park I don't see as a huge priority? Probably not

Always felt like this was one the fans were more keen on than the team. Rightly or wrongly.
