We are on a fastrack this seaon to upgrade our squad to championship level. All the players that have left either loan or permanent are not good enough and i include fringe players Leonard and Lundstram in that group, whether they go before the end of the month or not, they will leave eventually. The lad Kean Bryan will be close soon and i'm sure that Wilder will only bring new players in if they are better than what we have got.

It isn’t.

#1 target as recently as January.

Might not be #1 right now but be quite sure he’s right up there.

UTB

Nope. Gregory has wanted to sign for United for a while. Wilder hasn't really been interested since we were in League 1, he certainly wasn't ever the number 1 target.

Happy if he goes for the right money. Never seen him look good enough to win a place so far and he’s 27 so not a youngster.

I doubt Millwall would want Lundstram but they've been after Leonard as long as Utd have (perhaps even longer), he has close links with Harris and several members of their coaching staff and of course comes from that part of the world. Being honest, if I were in his position and the decision was left to me I'd head to Millwall for all the reasons I've just mentioned as well as the increased probability of playing regularly, which he certainly won't have at Utd for the foreseeable.

If it does indeed happen, it does make Utd's business in the JTW look even worse even though, like Evans, I'd expect Leonard to go for more than Utd paid for him
He’s from Devon mate, started at Plymouth.

If he doesn’t want to stay , simple as that I suspect he wants to go back down south.
We probably make a profit on him too, but at the end of the day it’s Chris’s choice

There is no obligation to tell anyone under contract of any interest from another club.

If the price isn't right, there is no point in telling anyone anything. Hence it can be self defeating.
No there isn’t but I believe the club that’s interested can talk to the player’s agent. And, of course, there’s good old fashioned tapping up. So, if a club is genuinely interested, the player will know about it.

Okay but I was questioning the person who said the "deciding factor in outgoings" was whether the player wanted to leave. Fair enough if you want to show off a bit of knowledge here but you're making a separate point.

4 pages already. Never has so much been written about a player that has given so little. If he goes GLTTL

You think it's a stupid policy to be honest with your employees?

I think it's a stupid policy to tell people who are under contract that there has been an inquiry for them when you have no intention of letting them leave.

It’s not that difficult to discern the priorities from simple volume of reports and what CW says and, crucially, doesn’t say. Gregory hasn’t figured at all.

Strikers this window:

1. Hogan.
2. Gallagher
3. Waghorn
4. Fletcher (latterly).

No doubt at all there are others but Gregory was “not on our radar.”

I’m afraid some people get snippets of information from people supposedly close to the club, very often second or third hand, and take it to heart. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard stuff ascribed to (for example only) Mike Blundell that turns out to be complete bollocks. Listening very carefully to what Tufty says provides far greater insight.

If you were questioning someone else, don't reply to my post that makes a separate point.

Second half of last season Leonard was branded as wank and a waste of time and money.

A couple of half-decent cameo appearances and we're suddenly (possibly) losing Iniesta.

It's rather difficult to keep up, if I'm honest.

It's called honesty. The player will find out about anyway so it's better that it comes from the club.

Personally I think it's vital that Wilder is honest with his players if he wants to have a good working relationship with them.

Strawman.

Fella, you replied to my post first. I was talking to someone else.

The good news is you can reply to whoever you want. You may wish to develop a point or widen the topic. It’s allowed. I do it all the time. Don’t tell Revolution though, he’s got me on silent...
:)

It's not dishonest not to tell an under contract player that someone made an enquiry about them.

Technically it isn't but when the player finds out that the club had shown interest and they weren't told about it the first thing they'd think is that the club was keeping things from them.

Contract.

Hold them to it.

I hear all this whining on this board all the time about how much power agents have and there's nothing we can do. Well there are a few things we can do. One is not telling first team players about every casual enquiry that comes our way.

One other thing we could do is report agents for tapping up but as everyone does this I assume that is unpalatable to the club.

We do, like we did with Jack O'Connell.

What you seem to be ignoring is the fact that the player will find out about the interest anyway. If they're going to find out about it then the one thing the club can control is where the information comes from. If the manager tells the player of the interest there can be an immediate discussion. If the player finds out about it from somewhere else the first thing he will think is "Why hasn't my manager told me about this?"

If the player is gong to find out about it anyway there is literally no downside to the info coming from the club itself. There is however a lot of downside to the player finding out from somewhere else.

We could report agents for tapping up, some do get reported. However, what would we then do when we need to use that same agent to tap up a player that we're after?

More that he looked off the pace last season, and maybe took time to adjust to the step up.

Already this season he's shown what a useful player he can be. Coming on at half time the other week made a huge difference imho.

Still can't see him starting many games and therefore can understand him wanting an opportunity elsewhere.
