LEONARD TO MILLWALL?

Millwall are interested in signing Sheffield United midfielder Ryan Leonard, according to Sky sources.

It is understood the potential deal would be a loan with Leonard making the move to The Den permanent in January.

Millwall are in talks to sell midfielder George Saville to Middlesbrough, but will only sanction a deal if they can bring in a replacement.

Leonard joined Sheffield United from Southend in January despite interest from Millwall and went on to feature 13 times last season as the Blades finished in 10th place.

The 26-year-old, who has over two and half years remaining on his contract at Bramall Lane, has made four appearances so far this season.

Pity in my view. Useful squad member but might struggle to nail down a first team spot. Prhaps he wants more games at this stage of his career. Can’t blame him.

The deciding factor in outgoings this season seems to be when the manager tells the player there is interest ,wether they want to go or not

I'd like to keep him but he might fancy his chances of first team football with them

Chris chases him for about a year.

'He'll be a big player for us', Chris says.

He's in every single squad.

Looks good against Norwich.

And now this.

But, if it means Chris can satisfy his long term lust for Gregory....

Chris’ long term lust for Gregory? Do explain...

I’d also like him to stay but in terms of his chances to start regularly, Fleck, Norwood and Coutts soon plus Basham will all be in his way then further forward Duffy and probably Woodburn for the advanced role.

He’s looked decent of late, coming on. He’s not looked Fleck or Norwood decent though.

It might be the catalyst to free up Johnson who’ll have a greater chance of getting in the team.

Shame cos we have seen nowhere near the best of him, I think he will flourish playing regularly in a decent Millwall team.

Millwall have been chasing him all summer, now it will happen once Saville goes.

Chris Wilder stated last week that Gregory is not on his radar. Who knows, may be a smoke screen but it sounded pretty emphatic.

They were hotly tipped to sign him previously before we signed him and many from Southend seemed to think he would end up there.

Typical really, just as he his starting to make his presence felt and I think it would leave us too light in the middle, at least in the short term. Bash and Lunny would be our back up midfielders until Coutts is fully fit, which could still be several weeks away. He is also a useful option for defence.

RIsky letting him go in my opinion.

Funny that we've kept O'Connell then because I'm pretty sure he'd have been interested in a move to Brighton.

It's no way to operate. In to time at all we'd have no fucking players left.

Selling him would be frankly stupid. He’s started to look really good in his recent appearances and could have a future for us as RCB. He looked really good there in a couple of games last year and played well against Norwich.
Gives us flexibility and pace in midfield, he allows us to play a flat 3 and look good doing so because he is so athletic.

Nevermind eh, as long as we’ve still got fucking Lundstram.

That is the stated policy. And it's a stupid one.

He's finally starting to show something (albeit in cameo appearances). Would not be a disaster but would be a bit disappointing.

Agree with the view that we’d be better off letting Lundstram go, than Leonard. However, I think releasing either weakens our squad options.

I can only speculate that there is a gentleman’s agreement between Pulis and Wilder that if we release Leonard to Millwall, they’ll release Saville to Boro and in turn we will get Marvin Johnson.

Perhaps Wilder sees a wide attacking option as more of a priority than being well stocked in centre midfield with Coutts due to return?

If it's true and the management think that we can do without him then GLTTL

I trust the judgement of the club rather than our resident forum managers.

Remember the Lee Evans meltdown on here? Wasn't that long ago was it? and look how that panned out

Let's see if there's any substance to this. If there is then I'll bet you it won't affect us one jot going forward!

If we didn't at least try to force Lundstram their way instead, then fuck me....

It's a pathetic, small minded and fucking childish policy.

5 months until January FFS. Why not just wait till then and see how things pan out? Things change quickly in football.

We act as if anyone who might prefer a move will kick up a massive stink if they don't get it.

Dont want this to happen but sort. Of knew it would how many of his type we got in squad tall athetic and relatively young by our standards. Potentially big fee when millwall flog him on we get a undisclosed which will be around a million which is a joke with whats happening at minute.

Er, what? That happened with Lee Evans but not sure it's happened with anyone else. I'm not sure Jack O'Connell was given the same chance, for example!

My bet with Lee Evans is that Wilder hadn't been overly happy with him and so jumped at the chance to get him out once it became clear we could get Oli Norwood instead for a similar price. The whole 'he seemed keen' thing was likely overplayed by Wilder who was keen to get him out. Maybe something like:

Evans: Hi boss. I've just found out Wigan are keen on signing me.
Wilder: So... what do you think?
Evans: Well, I'm not su...
Wilder: What's that, you fancy it?
Evans: Well, I don't kn..
Wilder: Look, Lee, if you want to leave, I want stand in your way.
Evans: Boss, I'm not sur...
Wilder: No no, don't mention it. I understand. I know you had a good time in Wigan before and want to get back there. Don't worry about it. We'll be fine. Bye!

I doubt Millwall would want Lundstram but they've been after Leonard as long as Utd have (perhaps even longer), he has close links with Harris and several members of their coaching staff and of course comes from that part of the world. Being honest, if I were in his position and the decision was left to me I'd head to Millwall for all the reasons I've just mentioned as well as the increased probability of playing regularly, which he certainly won't have at Utd for the foreseeable.

If it does indeed happen, it does make Utd's business in the JTW look even worse even though, like Evans, I'd expect Leonard to go for more than Utd paid for him
