Following further discussions between Southend United, Sheffield United and Ryan Leonard this week terms have now been agreed to enable Ryan to fulfil his wish to join ‘The Blades’.

Ryan Leonard will be undergoing a medical later today and subject to agreeing personal terms Ryan will be in a position to fulfil his dream move over the next week.

We shall make a further statement at that time.

There's a statement on Southend's official site saying terms have been agreed between the clubs and Leonard will be undergoing a medical and subject to agreeing personal terms the deal will go ahead

Delighted with this, Basham type midfielder but decent on the deck and much more athletic. Capable of getting up and down the pitch quickly and he’s 6 foot plus. Plus he’s a good age and has been captain down at Southend so a decent lad by all accounts. Fits the Wilder profile.

Much rather sign a dozen Ryan Leonard’s than players like Butterfield or Rhodes at Wednesday who phone it in most of the time and just pick the money up.

If it is as much as £800k...that’s a serious investment fr9m the club for a player in this scenario. In fairness, £500k would be too.

He’s a centre mid pal, box to box type, captain down there. Their fans adore him, in all reality I haven’t seen him too much apart from last season in a few televised games and a game against us in which he scored a belter. Will compliment what we already have very well
