As you say, good recovery tackle and the goal was well taken.....but.....as you so rightly point out, when you look at where we are now, and where your lot are, Leonard wouldn't be human if he didn't reflect on what could have been. Playing for the Blades, earning more than he currently does, a possibility of being part of a Premiership team, or at least part of an evolving Championship club whose manager is top notch and will take a decent player and turn them into an outstanding player. Anyone who saw us humiliate our near neighbours (they're the club that spent £10 million on a forward who refused to take a penalty in a play-off game, turns out he's vastly overrated and wouldn't get into our team) will have seen a team full of desire, with a midfield about as good as you'll see at this level. Would Lenny be able to make his way into our midfield? Who knows...what we do know is that we're going places, bet you wish your club, with your underwhelming chairman, could say the same.

Saw your manager on Channel 5, said some very pleasant things about our manager, and rightly so, he's different class. As for Leonard, has that moment passed, will Lenny stay in Division 1? Time will tell. Short things are player's careers, and they sometimes need to take a risk and not allow promises of what might be to beguile them. It looks like two of your division's automatic promotion places are already spoken for, I bet you're wondering if you'll make that third place your own.......we'll see.
We did try and warn you regards old players on the way down
We know all about that

Did he ever sign that new contract?
I lost track amongst all the tits...
Of course he didn't, that way he can go on a free in the summer if necessary.

You don't need to warn me, or any other Southend supporter with more than 18 summers on the register. Basically Phil is drawn towards older pros past their best, often because he doesn't have the funds for other younger players.

This ship has sailed - he'll go to Millwall either in Jan our next summer.

If his ambition is Millwall, fuck him, not being funny, but any player that would look at Millwall and United and chose Millwall is a fucking idiot, unless he really likes the Idea of being around bottom to mid table or at worse in a relegation scrap?

I still think he would be a great asset under CW and AK and provide us with something with a slightly different option in the middle, plus cover for any of the roles in midfield.

I don't disagree but sometimes players have other drivers than simply joining the highest placed team and the biggest salary on offer e.g. geography, links to clubs, family ties etc. As Leonard and his family are apparently settled in the South East and he has several links to Millwall inc. with Neil Harris, I've always felt he's more likely to go there, especially as there's certainly no guarantee he'll get into the Utd side (in fact I think it probable that he won't).

CW may well still be keen in Jan although I suspect other options will be being considered inc. whether Whiteman is ready.

Agreed dude, although as a player he must look at United and think playing football the right way and progressing players and clearly a team on a mission.

Although as you said player might want to stay down south and could have kids and the like, still think he would be nuts to not at least look at United seriously, as you say though not a guaranteed starter. +

Also Agree the targets might have changed some what since the summer and now we are in the position we are in, should be more attractive to players to want to come.

Wow, I find myself on this thread not to post breasts but to be serious

I personally think he would be a very good long term solution to missing Coutts for the rest of the season.

Time for us to go in and show rug Ron we are serious and get Leonard on board this train of ours... :)

We've had another!! bid rejected so says the local journo for Southend.

I could see us signing him in addition to another midfielder on loan.

Agree - Utd are still very thin on numbers in central midfield.

Losing Coutts was bad enough but Utd would be in big trouble should Fleck be missing for any length of time. Lundstram is improving with every game but pairing him with Bash or Carruthers would be very weak.

Having a serious go for Leonard plus a Prem loan would be my bet.

On another note - I can see why they do it (to hopefully entice other interest and offers) but Southend's leaking details of every offer to the local rag is extremely unprofessional.

Cue loads more 'amusing' puns about Ron no doubt. And there was me thinking you'd gone cold on an FL1 midfielder to warm your bench. just shows what I know.

Just shows what a broken leg can do. So how is our Ryan playing? Southend are well down on where I expected them to be right now.

He's doing what Ryan does, playing consistently well, and if the bid rumours are true Wilder still agrees it seems. As for us, we are blowing hot and cold so far. Still 9th though.

The blades had a scout at the game Saturday. As per usual Lenny was Lenny. The engine of our midfield.

I would not blame Lenny for wanting to join a much bigger championship club.

I also dont blame Ron for turning down bids for a player who is vital to the team.

If we are offered 600k+ we should take it and spend the money on a like for like replacement.

Shrimp like for like replacements are hard to come by. Full marks to your chairman for sticking to his guns...We were always led to believe that when in division one and bigger clubs come calling it's impossible to hang on to your players
