I think its a bit harsh to call it personal. Wilder is still set on buying Leonard it seems and Ron Martin is probably prepared for that to happen provided the final bid is close to, or equal to, the amount Martin thinks Leonard is worth. Provided that final bid happens then Ryan will be yours and this thread will be history.

I live with a mate who's from southend and he know's Leonard's girlfriend, in the sense that he's best mates with her brother.
(I know that sounds like one of those bollocks my mates mates mates stories, but genuinely the case, cba coming on here to make up shit).

Thought I'd ask him to see what info he could get and he reckons Leonard wants the move but Ron Martin not wanting to sell as we've all seen. Sorry it's nothing groundbreaking, but if that's from the horses mouth, I think we've a pretty good shot at getting him. Player power tends to rule nowadays as we know too well and only a year left, I'm sure they will give in to a slightly bigger offer...

So we have signed John Lundstram, this will probably put an end to our pursue in Leonard, shouldn't be too disappointed though because Lundstram is a very highly rated/talented player and Oxford fans are gutted which suggests he's done very well for them, good addition and strong competition for Coutts.

Lenny has changed the landscape. He's nailed (or maybe glued) Ron's little terminological inexactitude about the transfer request. We're scarcely going to pay whatever Ron wants in those circumstances. Again, to state the obvious, we would already have done so by now.

I sincerely hope you move on. Leonard is vital for us in the midfield. Personally hope we keep him. I also think it's great that we can hold onto players when bigger loftier clubs come calling. Lots of other league 1 clubs would have folded by now. Oxford have caved in quite quickly!

Lundstram wasn't going to sign a new contract, and was in the last year. So realised it would be foolish to reject money which he can use now to replace the player and strengthen his squad.

Whereas in Southend, Leonard has made it clear he wants to leave and won't sign a new contract. He will be gone be it now, January or next June.
So it's £500k plus add ons now....or £200k in January...or feck all in June. Who's the smarter Chairman?

The more I read about about lundstram, the less like a direct replacement for Leonard he seems.

Leonard seems to be more athletic, defensively minded and box to box while JL seems more of a metronome, passer of the ball and less adept defensively.

I could be wrong but it wouldn't surprise me if we'd released a little of the cash from sell on to add more depth.

After all if we are playing three in the middle

It was Southend who publicised the Leonard move. Maybe Lundstram was Tufty's main target all along and we've been negotiating with Oxford for weeks.
As Ricky said perhaps we'll pick up Leonard on the cheap/free in the future.

Take the point but sometimes there has to be the depth in the squad to cover for injuries. at a minimum they would be on the bench and get regular game time.

Not saying it will deffo happen - just that if a box to box mid was on the wish list it hasn't been ticked off yet.
