Seems to me that a lot earlier in this thread you were adamant that £300k was all he was worth and Wilder wouldn't go higher, and we should get over it and let Lenny come to you. I know that you were born without a humility gene, amongst other things, but being an obnoxious git for the sake of it does you absolutely no favours. I expect you to ignore any or all of this, but I feel much better now.

Well it's taken a whole lot of shite to get to this point.
We have made several bids which have been knocked back over the past month or so.
Their chairman has said all the right things, come across all tough, and insistent regards a fee.
Player has been offered a new deal which is knocked back, but then also hands in a transfer request thus giving up some of the fee.
So in short, and this is me reading between the lines a little, Leonard has seen what would be on offer with us, and it's significantly more than what Southend can offer and also has the lure of the club size and current league status on top. He's made his mind up.
He won't play for them again.
Now if their chairman continues to be stubborn, he might insist he sees out his contract. But as I said ages ago that wouldn't be good for business. He may of course tell him he can leave as long as it's anyone but us, seeing as he might feel we are the reason this has all happened.
Now I suspect, he will hope that another club shows an interest and drives up the price, but that looks unlikely as I really suspect he's decided he wants to come to United and now has his head and heart set on that move.
Now, what might happen is that we may ask them to meet half way seeing as Leonard has handed in a transfer request and I'm sure therefore surrended any percentage of the fee. And it is this point Ronny lad needs to start thinking like a businessman again. He might get 475k, plus a few add ons....perhaps we might have a player they would be interested in who we have deemed surplus?
But I see this being sorted by the end of this month at the latest.
Why would we take 475k when we have already knocked back 500k?
Too right Pinchy when a players head has been turned it foolish to take he attitude Ron has it will work against them in the long run.All.
Lenny has spoken, as I said he would. RugRon has feet of clay.
I make you right that he has played his last game for us. Whether you buy him or Millwall is still up for grabs, personally I'd rather he came to you, in spite of Pinchy, than go to Millwall, but whoever gets nearest Ron's price will get him. This has still got a way to go before he signs elsewhere, but not too long.
Not too complicated - we will be paying Leonard the % that he has forfeited by asking for a transfer.Well it's taken a whole lot of shite to get to this point.

I think its reasonable to accept you are a 'bigger' club than Millwall and that means bigger crowds, bigger history etc. I also think your manager is probably a bloke that players want to play for. On the Millwall front, their manager is Neil Harris who finished his career with us and lives locally, on the coaching staff they have Adam Barrett who was our captain until Anton turned up last season and who played with Lenny for a long time and lastly the Chief Exec is Steve Kavenagh who was our Chief Exec until he bailed out to join Millwall. Not quite clear cut maybe. The player won't go to a club if he doesn't want to so won't necessarily go to the highest bidding club.
Doesn't that rather depend on the fee? All.

Can't a player buy his contract out in the last two years? Leonard has a year left at say £5k a week, can't he buy himself out for £250k?
Leonard has now handed in a transfer request.
It's exactly as I told you.
You can't make a player play for you if he doesn't want to.
It's illegal!
Now he is on his way to us!
He can buy his way out of his contract, if the contact has been signed over 3 years and he's over 22 years of age I think it is, or he can refuse to work and then the club can look to claim damages against that contract.Leonard has now handed in a transfer request.

But the point is that depending on the terms of the contract, he can't play for anyone else for a period of time.
He can buy his way out of his contract, if the contact has been signed over 3 years and he's over 22 years of age I think it is, or he can refuse to work and then the club can look to claim damages against that contract.
So long as he has a contract in place which the club do not breach they do not have to release his registration which would prevent him from signing for someone else.
Either way it's a mess which is why most clubs buckle and I expect Ron will do the same, however it's not illegal to hold someone to their contract terms which they signed freely, even if that means they sit at home.
Making them train with kids could actually give the club another headache as he may make a case for constructive dismissal.
Technically yes. But no club is going to buy a player if the selling club insist on such a clause (unless they are buying him to stockpile him for future use rather than play him now).
The following is a cut and paste from an article about this topic:
"Clubs, you would think, have a certain amount of say in each deal. After all, they hold the registration to the player and can simply refuse to sell him if they are not in agreement with any offer made.
While in principle this is correct, the reality is that clubs often feel pressured or forced into accepting bids for players which do not meet their full valuation.
There can be a range of reasons for this; pressure from the player or external influences linked to the player is just one, but the club's own finances is probably the biggest.
Can a League One side afford to hang on to a £1 million-rated player because a Championship side are only offering £700,000? Or a South American team keep a highly rated starlet because a Portuguese team won't offer the right conditions of sale?
Often the answer is no; the immediate injection of cash is more important to the day-to-day running of a team than holding out for the extra 20 percent which might never come".
Leonard has played the waiting game at Southend. No doubt him, or his agent, have been hoping that the club would accept one of the bids for him. That hasn't happened so now Leonard has forced the issue by demanding a transfer request. He will be a Sheffield United by this time next week.
Link please?Going to Millwall.
Says who?Going to Millwall.
Going to Millwall.
Millwall would make more sense, wouldn't have to move house etc.
