(Apologies to those seeking news about Ryan Leonard) A couple of days ago (post 837) I invited you to start a thread on your views on proper football, so that in a thread devoted to the topic we could have a debate about different types of football in United's history, what Blades' fans prefer, what 'proper football' means, etc. I promised to read and address what you said in this new thread, and hoped that you would read what others said, and address their views. I specifically invited you to give us your views on 'proper football', but then you say that others won't talk about the subject, they avoid it Please don't misrepresent what people say in such a blatant way. I really would like you to start a debate in the appropriate section, and to participate in it. There is no irony in this request. But let's do it honestly, and let the seekers after news about Ryan Leonard have their space back. But they won't. They like to avoid it. It troubles them.
The problem we may well have next season is even if Coutts and Fleck are fit other teams will have worked out they don't track back or do it lazily when we lose the ball high up the park so teams will draw us on to them then attack our unprotected defensive line with more skill and pace than in L1. Think of a many of the goals we conceded last season especially at away games. This is probably why we are fishing for a midfielder who can both defend and attack.
True but ideally you want your squad players to be almost as good as your first teamers and with the potential to improve. We'll be lucky to have another season with as few injuries so we need strength in depth, not squad fillers. No problem with Leonard coming in for either Fleck or Coutts if injured but again that's my point, Wilder could be only bringing him in for this reason hence only willing to bid for Leonard as a squad player and not a first teamer.
Squad player fee from buying club £400k ish.
First team player fee from buying club £700k ish and more towards Southends' valuation?
All guesswork but hopefully you get my drift FB.

And again I agree but on the flipside, if we don't have any injuries in midfield then Leonard might not play much at all.True but ideally you want your squad players to be almost as good as your first teamers and with the potential to improve. I tried, I really did. I don't like to give up on people, but I am going to have to make an exception in this case. If ever you want a debate, you only have to say...There is no debate to be had. I repeat. Anyone who doesn't know what proper football means won't understand the explanation. There is no case for Hoof. Hoof lost the debate decades ago. This is not a contentious proposition anywhere but S2. You like hoof? Have it. It's all yours, just don't pretend it's got anything to do with the beautiful game.

So if he signs it's great but if he doesn't then it doesn't matter?
Surely if you think it would be a great signing, then missing out on him would mean you'd be disappointed instead of not caring?

To be fair that's about 5 pages on Leonard and the other 45 dedicated to Pinchy bitch slapping anyone who remotely challenges the fixed agenda.Ryan Leonard brings up his half century.

Really? We should pay whatever they want? I think we should pay what Tufty thinks he's worth. Do you really think RugRon won't accept less than what they're presently asking for? Don't be taken in by the Southend fan's bluster. He wears a rug so he ain't no hard-nosed negotiator; more comedy value.
On a more serious note, Lenny has made his position clear - he wants to go. There is only a fag paper between that and a transfer request. Watch this space for Lenny upping the ante and RugRon upping his hairline but lowering his expectations.
Lenny won't be at Southend come August.
You should be used to it by now!1000 posts about fuck all. Excellent

I think the toupée deserves a little credit. Perhaps even a pinned thread? Well, it needs to be pinned, anyway.
If o Connell and Moore were at Southend, they would still be the same player with the same ability, and probably their best players too
This is where Wilder has it right. He's looking at their actual value and ability stand alone, We don't care he's important to southend. he has a year left there, hasn't attracted loads of interest elsewhere, and is worth "X" according to our manager.
They can go out and search for a replacement the same way we are. A player they can get for peanuts relative to them from non league or league 2, and hope he's good enough to make the step up. This lad is a gamble to us just the same. We are trusting a mans judgement as much as anything.
Or they can reject our offer which does not meet their valuation of a player who is valuable to them. That is absolutely their perogative. If we'd sold one of our best players in League 1 for a few hundred grand, I, and many others on here would be livid so I can entirely understand why Southend don't want to. Yes they risk losing him for nothing but it's up to them whether the sum on offer now is worth more than a year of the players' service. The point about how important a player is to the selling club is illustrated by Matt Done. Now we are in the championship, we have little to no use for him and will let him go for nothing or next to nothing to get him off the wage bill. When we signed him, he was integral to Rochdale so they wouldn't let him go unless they received a decent fee to help them strengthen the team. I'm not saying Wilder SHOULD pay more because he's imortant to Southend whereas JOC and Moore weren't. What I'm saying is that if he wants him, he will cost more than they did for the reasons highlighted in the Matt Done case.
Were it not for McCabe the club may well now be history.CW's offers will be severely constrained by the budget set by our tinpot Board. As for me having an agenda, that is laughable coming from you. Maybe you are grateful to McCabe for overseeing the worst period in the club's history. I'm not.
I'm also pretty sure that Wilder wouldn't have paid £750k for Matt Done even though the skinflint board would obviously have sanctioned itOr they can reject our offer which does not meet their valuation of a player who is valuable to them. Would you really like to go back.to a three sided ground and Paul Woolhouse, Steven Hinchcliffe, Samantha Hashimi et al?
I believe he was recommended by Woolhouse or Hinchcliffe but had to flee the country. Something about legal irregularitiesWhen did Al take over?
Bit part? If he sees himself as bit part, then as a 25 year old, he should surely want to play football and go elsewhere.
Take your point about bit part though, but we are all speculating on formation. Perhaps CW has 4-4-2 in mind for this division and he sees Lenny as more of a 4. Evidence shows that we are not blessed with a 4 for midfield, perhaps Fleck and Leonard in centre mid is a permutation.
Don't you just love these guessing games.
UTB
Could have been another notch on our long list of firsts. No club our size has ever gone out of business and become 'history'.
