Disappointing. It's a bit of a reality check for us.

If they've offered double what we have you can't blame him for moving. He'll fancy his chances of getting in their team regardless of who the manager is.

Bad couple of days with him, Mendez-Laing, Etheridge and seemingly Danny Ward all going elsewhere.

We'll have plenty of alternative targets though.

Never really heard much about our interest in Mendez Laing or Ward tbf. So really, I see that we have won 3 lost 1 and drawn 1 (Etheridge) cos I don't know that our interest was that strong on him.

According to the Cardiff local paper Cardiff beat off Millwall and Southend to sign Mendez-Laing, there was no mention of our interest, Maybe we signed Thomas instead and of course there is the ongoing interest in Mackay-Steven. Etheridge is the only one we've been definitely linked with.

And why would we want EEL back when he is barely good enough for L1 let alone the Championship?

We are going to struggle bigtime without solid defensive additions.

I see where you're coming from, but I just think EEL was solid enough, knows the place and players etc. Although EEL hasnt made many appearances, other than 30 plus for Utd last season, Ryan Bennett has only made 74 since 2012.

Relaxed, totally.

Like Christopher says: it's all about players who want to play here.

If Bennett'd prefer to commit to Wolves instead, then he wasn't right for us. And good luck to him in thriving in what'll more & more become a mercenary culture there.

We move on, with our proud "old school is the new school" foundations unshaken. On to the next target...

i'm also guessing the interest in mackay-steven might mean that were not interested in ricky holmes now interest in holmes seems to have died down since we became interested in mackay-steven

Obviously you can't read too much into fans comments but the universal slating of Bennetts attitude and performance from Norwich fans would have worried me. I started collecting a few quotes in case he signed and was dreading the backlash when I posted them. I didn't find a single positive comment

Fuck him. We don't need him anyway.

We just won League One at a canter, 100 points, Basham, O'Connell and Wright.

No need for a centre half.

BRING IT ON

Much the same from a Norwich supporting workmate. Nothing but negative comments.

Not sorry we've missed out, but we will need better than EEL.

Yeah I really don't think EEL will be up to it. Very early days though at the moment. I'll be concerned if we go into the new season with the back line we have now but I think it's important to be patient .

Just read Bolton are signing Tony McMahon which puts our transfer worries into context

I also have a mate who supports Norwich! He was more positive, but only slightly! Said he was steady and should do a job for us etc. Quite happy to move elsewhere to be honest!

Listens to his agent, goes for the money.
What we have here cant persuade him otherwise. Not our or Wilders type of person/player. He can chuff off.

Absolutely agree but will be interesting to see whether we can attract better players who also want to be here when other clubs in a similar position offer much more money. We offered something different last year because we were the big club and could probably have met most other offers so it was easy for players to want to come / be here and the togetherness could well have grown as the season progressed. I fully support the sentiment and trust CW, but we might just have to prepare ourselves for some disappointments over the next few weeks.

A lot of those names were never confirmed targets. There's nothing to suggest we were after any of them other than a few whispers. Other than Bennett I'm not that bothered about any of them and I won't lose sleep over him either. There are plenty of other good players.

Something didn't feel right about this deal to me. Perhaps bullet dodged.

He's only played 100 matches in 5 years. That's alarmingly low for a centre half.

Wilder has done well to bring together a successful group but let's also not expect him to turn every sow's ear into a silk purse. Sometimes a sow's ear is just a sow's ear.

It seems his fans over the past 5 years are still not convinced he has more potential than what convinced them to part with 3m.

There's plenty more fish in the sea and we are a lot more attractive to Premier League teams as a higher level EEL type loan could be sought.

A few of the top 5 play three at the back. That could be a key factor in getting someone from say an Arsenal, Spurs or Chelsea for example.

If the Norwich fans all rated him, he would be staying at Norwich or going to a Premier League club!

We aren't going to be signing the best players from other Championship clubs unfortunately!

Lovely collection of opinions from the Wolves massive. Has he signed to Wolves yet? And if so, have we missed a bullet?

Yes.

As for the comment about Wright, Basham and O'Connell being good enough; I think only the latter would be a shoe in. Bash had a great end to the season but not sure he has done enough over 3 years to suggest he can play consistently well at centre back and at a higher level I have doubts. Wrights is a steady eddy but lack of pace and athleticism will be telling league above. He has played his entire career in non league and LEague 2 until last season. Think he will play a bit but the power and pace of strikers at higher level means we need 2 for me if we keep current formation.

I still believe we need 2 centre backs, an attacking midfielder and another striker - also a back up keeper.

I recall Wilder recently saying we needed two CH's, so no doubt this is up there with his other targets. The fact that none of us are aware of what Wilder is doing shouldn't come as a surprise. Think Holmes will remain a midfield target until told otherwise.

Wonder who's decided he's the man for them then without a manager?

Would've expected any new manager to make own decisions when he arrives. Seems a bit odd that some back room staff member is pulling the transfer strings

They seem to be blaming a guy called Thirwell. Not sure who he is, maybe a director of football. There not happy though! Oh well, maybe dodged a bullet there!

Spoke to my cousin who is a Naaaaarwich fan and he agrees we have done well to avoid him. "Lazy and Slow" was his description!
