Yep, this is what it’s going to take for us to move to the next level. Develop / invest in youngsters, bring them into the first team and sell whenever someone bids our target fee. Rinse and repeat. It’s always a bit disappointing to lose an exciting youngster but we should get used to it as it’s what will move us forward. We should also be confident - our youth scouting and academy are clearly top class and have proven so over decades now.

You’ll win some and lose some but overall you’ll move forward.

The trick is of course to get top dollar for the potential (which we have done recently). I also think once in a while you have to break your own rules and take a chance on someone you think could be really special by rejecting a couple of big bids and keeping them for an extra year or two. Blaster falls into this category for me. Osula, Jebbo and One don’t. That’s not to say they definitely wont go on to be great players, it’s just a risk/reward thing and I have more confidence in Blaster.

That is how Brentford and Brighton got to where they are rinse and repeat and investing in cheap talent and making huge profits.

Yep I think that's how we do it under the Prince and if the new owners have any sense they will continue to do it that way.

Ditto but selling him and buying Barnes type players? Oh no. And selling him to fund a six month loanee from Liverpool (honk spit) would be a mistake.

We can’t hang on to talent because we are seen as a selling club incapable of staying in PL when we pull off a promotion. The kids and their Agents see an opportunity for PL bench warming at triple wages and boom they’re off.

We’re halfway there from a L1 club to a yo-yo championship/PL club. The next bit is harder, PL consolidation. Leadership (ie Wilder) and signings now will determine if we go Luton/Norwich or Brighton/Bournmouth,

Exactly. One looks like he's going to be a fantastic player but if a £10m+ bid comes in, we have to cash in.

We need players for the here and now and if that funds new players, it has to be done.

We're not Newcastle or Liverpool. We can't pay £10m on youth prospects. We get them for free from Boreham Wood, Alfreton, Hamilton etc. and nurture them into first teamers, or saleable assets.

Well firstly we’d need to be in the top flight and likely making a decent fist of survival. To this we can’t really afford to nurture and develop potential, all investment and resources need to go into strengthening the first team.

Then we’d purchase one. Easier said than done granted, but there’s countless players who stand a better chance of bagging 10 goals in the PL than One currently.
If we ever have a 10 goal striker in the PL I guarantee they won’t have come from our academy.

Absolutely ludicrous talk on hear about fees for Oné/ keeping him, though it’s slightly tongue in cheek.

If we sold him for £7m+ I’d be content and £10m+ would be a great deal. We did our whole summer business for ~£10m, it’s a huge amount of money.

A lot would depend on new owners position …

As a club we have to look where we are and right now the academy is a potential source of funds to get us where want to be or sustain us financially.

Whilst I agree this is short sighted “little” thinking it has been where we are at as a club right now and the sale of young players based on unrealised potential has and will help us achieve goals.

If the new owners come in and have substantial funds to help us meet goals or we suddenly become stablished in the prem then I would definitely Arico Cate keeping hold of our younger players more long term.

Ignoring that the idea of "purchase one" would require us to obliterate our transfer record for one minute (and most people here would balk at that concept as spending munneh is not Sheffield United and/or people are still traumatised at what happened the last time we tried to buy one), would I reject that? I've not seen enough of him yet to make a firm conclusion of his potential upside, but continuing our current approach which is akin to identifying a profitable accumulator and then cashing out after the half twelve game for fear of losing the couple of quid appreciation, is a bad long term plan. If you sell for £10m, you'd better be pretty fucking sure that the percentage of the time he turns into a £50m striker is extremely low
