Even though most of you seem to have given up on promotion this year, here are many reasons why we can still do it.

Reason 1: We have made Bramall Lane a fortress with 4 games unbeaten with 3 wins, 1 draw, 8 goals, 3 clean sheets, 2 goals conceded and We even beat Walsall who before us I believe only lost 1 away game.

Reason 2: Gillingham on absolute terrible form for quite a while, many reasons to suggest that the only reason they are still up there is because they beat us 4-0 at the start of the season (Great Memories).

Furthermore, when they played us they didn't even seem to be looking for a win, seemed to be playing for a draw or just trying to knick a winner. They also have 1 win in 6, so they are dropping the points.

Additionally, have you seen their run in, it's painful, they will be dropping points left right centre with their run in involving teams such as Burton and Millwall, to teams fighting for a win in order to get promotion. They also play a team fighting for survival, Shrewsbury, we for one know what a destructive power they can be. They also play another team fighting to knick a playoff spot, Rochdale (hopefully just a draw in that game). But, can't you see it's possibly?

Reason 3: I no a bunch of you are shouting at the screen "BARNSLEY AND ROCHDALE ARE ABOVE US", Well they are very catchable, but here it comes, for us to overtake Barnsley we have to beat them and hope they lose or draw a game while we win in order for us to leap frog them into the last playoff spot, however this is easier then it sounds, as they play high flying wigan, who just came lost there first game in 21 games, but surely they can pull together and on the last day beat barnsley for us in order for us to knick that spot.

Now for Rochdale, who would have thought it, Rochdale above the mighty Blades, well it won't be for long, or will it, hopefully Gillingham will draw against Rochdale in order for us to leap frog them on goal difference, as Rochdale have a moderately easy run in, but could face some difficulty on the way, such as Swindon, they have the topscorer in the league, hopefully he can grab some goals against them.

Conclusion: In order to get into the playoff we have to hope teams fault and that we don't. It is possible, WE JUST NEED TO BELIEVE IN THE MIGHTY BLADES.

The form tables and fixtures in the run in rightly prove that Gillingham are indeed there for the taking however the recent form of Barnsley and Rochdale towers over ours and shows that out of the three teams, they are way more likely than us to get 6th spot.

I think we have left it too late.

Had we beaten Southend then followed it up with our other results, Id have said we would have a chance.

whats really galling in sarfend havent won since beating us it was probably what will cost us

but its still a probability , even if its a long shot
we should go for it , 4 wins isnt that big an ask

Tuesday night at Shrewsbury can push us on , or end it all

Shame we didnt beat Gillingham at BDTBL, that extra 2 points and them 1 point less could be the difference that matters.

Why don't we just take one game at a time , and see were it takes us.

Admire your enthusiasm but that's all it is .

If only Adkins and his team hadn't served up so many inexplicably awful performances at home this season. A few more points here and there and we would be in with a real chance.
Amazing that we have any hope at this stage really.

in Adkins cv is the fact that Scunny scraped into the 2009 play offs surprisingly on the last day , and then won the play offs ,
beating Millwall 2=3 sufc in the final su being scunny

deja vu anyone

If we had beaten Southend and Gillingham it would most certainly be on...

...but we didn't so it isn't.

We won't make it. EVIDENCE; We're Sheffield United, we'll give false hope and then find it too little too late.

I hope it goes to last day to keep the place buzzing and in turn would create momentum and hope heading into nx season.
Adkins in the last few weeks has swung many a opinion and i see a (slightly)rosier future, still plenty of work to be done but recent performances are a definite improvement

Amen! Gills will crumble against them! I'd hate for us to have to go down to their gaff for a Tuesda...ohhhh shit.

It's alright, unlike the Gills we won't be facing the absolutely positively fully fit key midfielder James Wallace.

Don't forget even the mighty piglets can't beat Shrewsbury. Kyuk kyuk kyuk.

It has been left far far too late and nothing about this season gives me confidence that we can win all of our remaining games, which we would need to do to have any remote unlikely chance.

Even if Gillingham, Barnsley and Rochdale all lose form just at the right time we will inevitably find a way to blow it. Save yourselves the heart ache now and get ready for League One. The Southend result finished our season.

A fortress built on 4 games? If you were in charge of the Roman Empire, it would have all been over a lot quicker.

What it comes down to is this:

To get ourselves a 1 in 4 chance of going up, can Sheffield United, former League and FA Cup winners, not so recent conquerors of multiple PL teams, biggest club in League One by a country mile, front up against 4 league one teams?

If with so much at stake we cannot put away teams like Shrewsbury, Barnsley and Scunthorpe and pull a result out of the bag against Coventry then we are certainly not ready for the league above.

Apart from Coventry away perhaps, these are all teams if we drew them in the cup we'd expect to knock out at the first opportunity.

I disagree with one of the earlier posts. I hope Rochdale beat Gillingham. We need to also hope Rochdale's fixtures take care of themselves but any additional points to Gillingham do us no favours.

If we're talking of qualifying for the play offs then forget it. We may reach the top 6 but that's as far as we go. It's automatic or nothing for promotion and were a way off that.

Let's look to next season, take an early summer and rebuild.

It looks, from recent performances that we've got something to build on over the summer

I think the issue we have is that we have a bit of momentum NOW.

Come the summer the league will have 6 new teams, the Blades will have traded players and what looks like momentum now, will we feel the same with a different line up and possibly back to 4-4-2? It might feel like starting all over again from square one.

As of now, sneak in, play someone like a disappointed Burton over two legs. Might be our best chance for a while in a weird sort of way.

How were Wednesday looking when they went up? At least 4 behind with 3 to go. No worse than what we could be after the midweek fixtures.

That's a baffling post Swiss if we reach play offs we can win them

A mate of mine (Wendy fan) just got 40-1 on us to win playoffs. I had a bit of a laugh at him and told him he had no chance. He then told me to look at the league and fixtures of those around us.

Pretty much what the OP said, it's not quite as far away as i'd thought. I still sit on the side that it's very unlikely however if we beat the mighty Shrewsbury (and hopefully we'll want to pay them back for last time) on Tuesday it'll make the Dingles game a lot more interesting that anticipated.

Like I said, probably no chance but then again...
