rugby at the lane

I reckon Speedway is Sheffield's hidden jewel. Loads of people are aware of it but never go. With enough people through the gates, Owlerton is better equipped to Elite League Speedway than most track, and due to the fast layout of the track (long straights and long sweeping corners) you are unlikely to find better racing in the country. With enough people there the atmopshere could be electric.
Speedway is shit! :D

Speedway is shit! :D

Only if you stand behind the start line and get showered with shale. :D

I guess only non-bikers would say speedway is shit (unless the smilie means you're being tongue in cheek - and your avatar means that you're a biker too?) - the thought of someone taking on those corners on a rutted and loose surface, on a single cylinder 500cc bike with all that torque - and doing that whilst 3 other nutters (who aren't above running you off the track) are alongside you and flat out too - fills me with a mixture of admiration and fear.

It might not be your choice of spectator sport - but the lads (and lasses) who do it have got real skill and bravery - and just like those that race at Donnington, Cadwell etc have my unlimited respect.

(Written by someone who's written bikes off, and spent nights in hospital doing far less challenging stuff than speedway :()

I'm not a biker, well, I don't ride a bike if thats what you mean, but I do like bike racing. Specifically MotoGP, hence the Rossi helmet avatar. WSB & BSB is also good but speedway does absolutely nothing for me, I personally think its like Nascar, boring cause they do nothing but go round in a circle.

Trust me - once you've lain unconscious in the gravel you never view pro bike racers with anything less than awe - whether they be Paris/Dakar or Valentino or any stage in between - they are all Gods!! :D

I wrote my Yammy off at 50mph and was off work for nearly a month - The following summer I saw Niall McKenzie come off at the Old Hairpin at Donnington doing about 105. He got up, brushed off the gravel - and won the second race. How do they do that???

Posible pitch problems aside Wouldn't mind sharing with the Eagles - If you could extend your season ticket for an extra 50 quid or so and get the eagles matches thrown in i could even be tempted and it gives the chance to get down to the lane all year round . Wouldn't be bothered going to Don Valley but the lane's a different matter.
Help out the Pubs down London rd aswell, might save a few from closing down.

Realising Im Pissing in the wind with this but just a thought !
